Ten years ago the Great Freight Bonanza was still on and Donny was no exception if you liked hordes of 66s.

Very nice 👍 but why aren't electric ⚡ locomotive s powering these train's under the wires ? Why diesel ⛽ l locos? When there are enough modern electric ⚡ locos available doing nothing at crewe?? Awaiting overhaul I suppose what a waste , a lot of them should be available all train's under the wires in the uk urgently instead of diesel ⛽ traction? Nothing against diesel ⛽ haulage outside the electric ⚡ system where they come into their own of course all over the network with none electricfication lines around? The UK. Just a comment 😂. but puzzled?

You have to bare in mind that the full route (unless plans are in place) needs to be electrified+ crew training etc

I saw a headline that Freightliner have scrapped all their electric locos in favour of diesel due to the soaring price of electricity.

Freight companies are lazy. They think the train might be diverted or something so they use a diesel to save them the trouble. It is sad to see Class 90s and 92s rotting away while freight trains are hauled by diesels even when the whole route is electrified.

If you look at the vast majority of freight routes where diesel locos are used 'under the wires', you will probably find an area of route where it is not 'under the wires'. It is these areas that make it too much effort to work around, and buying new locos for this, or electrifying short sections of track, is too expensive given the abundance of available, reliable, diesel locos.

11:45 Was the Class 70 loco the winner of a "Britain's Ugliest Locomotive Design"? What a dreadful eyesore! What has happened to locomotive design in the last 30 years? It's as if a good looking design is now of no importance - instead, it seems to be actively avoided.

Class 67 is by far the ugliest diesel. Class 70 looks retro futuristic, somewhere between Gerry Anderson and Bladerunner. Like a 58 playing an alien in a cheap sci fi movie.
