Thanks for that, great stuff. It's been at least 5 years since I've been to Ealing Broadway. The HSTs, 165/6s, 360s and 332s will all be gone soon. It certainly will be all change on the passenger front. Even the District Line has new stock in the S7s. I remember seeing my first HST at Ealing Broadway, back in 1976. I was so excited to see it. The Greenford branch trains terminated at Ealing Broadway, there was a reversing siding between the down slow and up fast. I'm glad you commented on the 'bin-liner'. Iwas at Northolt tube station when one went through on the adjacent goods only line. I can vouch for the smell as it passed through. Those boxes of waste must really stink in the recent 30°+ heat. Me and a friend would drive to Acton after going to the pub in Epsom. Get there about midnight, park on the bridge at Noel Road. We'd walk halfway down steps into the yard, just off the road bridge. We'd watch the 08 shunting stock. Coal hoppers, 16 ton minerals vans etc. They'd be brutal with the brakes when fly shunting. When the man (shunter) on the ground put up his arms to tell the driver to stop, he'd stop hard. It was like a shock wave going down the train as the loose coupled wagons suddenly stopped, and a cut of 5 or so wagons would carry on silently into their selected siding. Lord knows how the people in the nearby houses got any sleep at night. We'd stay there until 2.00am sometimes. Of course, the steps are now fenced off like a maximum security prison, like most of the railway is nowadays. That gradient on the dive under is pretty impressive. Nice to see one of the 3000 ton+ mega trains come in. Quite a load for a single loco. Made possible by Brunel's desire to keep the Great Western route as flat and level as possible. Once again, thanks, it brought back some memories. I must pay Ealing and Acton a visit soon.

Glad you enjoyed it. I filmed at Acton Main Line and West Ealing last year. The changes in just that short time are huge.

Platform 3 has recently been extended in preparation for the 9 car Elizabeth line service. This has improved the visibility for rail fans. The movement of trains is almost continuous. It can be difficult to choose what to film. The fast trains come very quickly and can catch you out whilst you are watching something else.

Just to be pedantic. On the GWR, the lines are not referred to as "Fast" and "Slow". They are "Main" and "Relief" as in Up Main and Down Relief. The Victorian GWR were very sniffy claiming "We do not run Slow trains!"

Nice video . Never been to Ealing Broadway is there much freight through there seen the stone train and the liner . Is there any good view for the under ground trains .
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Sorry for the delayed response. I've been away. I think early afternoon is probably the busiest time for freight. You can look back at realtime trains for a few days to see which paths actually ran on any day to get an idea. Some days there are a lot of paths that don't run. On other days extra paths come up at short notice so it is hard to predict accurately. Traffic is West Country stone, Southampton boxes and the bin liner to Claydon mainly.

Wondering if you generally need to ask for permission before spending time filming on platforms?

Basic answer is yes. Network Rail and BTP websites have the information. Search for enthusiast photography.

I thought the point was for most of the 800s to work in pairs but it seems like a lot are just running as 5 car single units
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the logic of 5 car trains running in pairs with no inter unit gangway on Inter City services is. My assumption is that the 5 car units were delivered first so that the 180s could be released. It would make more sense for the 9 car units to run the long distance point to point services. Pairs of 5 cars make sense on services that can be split enroute, e.g 5 cars come off at Swansea and go on to Carmarthen. Single 5 car units make sense on quieter routes or off peak, with frequency of service providing the capacity rather than length of train. Frequent service makes people more likely to choose the train.

Makes sense

So are GWR still running the slow services past Hayes & Harlington? Also will GWR run any slow services to Reading/Didoct once Crossrail is fully implemented?
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
The service from Hayes to Reading is operating with GWR 387s at the moment. What happens in the future is anyone's guess. I suspect that GWR will retain the semi fasts. The Elizabeth line will, in principle, be all stations.

Can the New IEP trains run as one continuous unit,ie,10 plus cars? Thank you
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. The 5 car units habitually run in pairs. Don't know if they can run in triples or what the situation is with the 9 car units. Expect they can rescue each other but no more. I'm sure that someone will comment if they know better.

So what's the point of running the 345s, if they can't go to heathrow and so Heathrow Connect is still running? I suppose it's mainly for mileage accumulation and driver training
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
Tfl Rail has taken over the 2 Hayes shuttle slots from GWR. The Heathrow service frequency is unchanged at 2 tph. You are probably correct that the early take over is about mileage and training rather than anything else.
@partyentertains40926 жыл бұрын
345s cannot go to Heathrow due to issues with the ETCS signalling system in the Heathrow tunnels. Don't know whether it will be sorted by December 2018, due to delays in opening Crossrail from "Autumn 2019".

The introduction of the full Elizabeth Line service will never happen as far as I'm concerned as I refuse to acknowledge that silly name
@neilcrawford83036 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm concerned Crossrail is Crossrail and not the Elizabeth Line. It's several separate railways linked by a tunnel. I certainly get Crossrail as an operator, just like Thameslink. But, you still think of the various sections or regions and their routes as being Southern or Great Northern, linked by Thameslink services.

Mightily informative although impotently filmed due to zoomed lens.
@BoogiesTrains5 жыл бұрын
Interesting choice of word. I use quit a lot of zoom to keep the subject matter (train) as the dominant content of the frame for as long as possible. I know it reduces the visual spectacle of speed but a very small train a long way away isn't very interesting. Glad you find the commentary informative.

hey your captions are really hard to read.... just do them in white
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
White is no better. The problem is the constantly changing background. I used to use white but settled on blue with a white border as giving the most consistent contrast.
@FabianEason6 жыл бұрын
@@BoogiesTrains I also think you had a slightly blue white balance on this this film which probably didn't help. I find the writing ok but I do watch on a big screen. I reckon maybe try a bolder font with a thinner white border? Anyway, great vid as always, keep it up!
@BoogiesTrains6 жыл бұрын
Hi Fabian. The extreme variation in screen sizes that are in common use just adds to the problem. My preference would be to put a solid white banner along the bottom with black letters which I have seen others use but I can't find a way to do this with the video editing software that I use.
