Another excellent video, nothing appears to have changed since 1975 when I last drove a 47 into the yard, only the tracks lowered through the tunnel and classes and 47, 37, 31 and 08 substituted by class 66 in the yard.

Great video, loved it. Ipswich station will always hold a special place for me becaue as a lad of about 12 back in the 80s I was lucky enough to go over the yard with a driver one Sunday and we cabbed all the diesels, EMUs and DMUs, went into the engine rooms etc. Present were 08, 31, 37, 47, 101, 312, and also an 86 (220) rolled in with a technical issue. Still have the photos. Happy memories.

Excellent video as always. I have recently taken to going up to Ipswich to photograph the freightliner traffic due to the shortage of loco hauled trains at Norwich. It has also given me a chance to photograph the class 86/6's before they supposedly dissappear about Eastertime. Anyway well done good film 🤓

Seems odd not seeing the class 90 passenger trains anymore,lived near the line for 30 years as well as working for network rail for 8 years. Haven’t been on a new one yet but the kids are itching to go on one ASAP

The more I practice, the better I get, hopefully. There is some luck involved. I never know exactly what I am going to get when I set out on a filming day.

There is something ironically comical about the new broken down unit being towed by the 60 year old tractor!...though I guess we'll be seeing quite a bit of that over the coming year or so!

I’ve been to Ipswich railway station about 4 times. It’s good that Greater Anglia have improved the station a lot with new footbridge+steps+lifts, main station concourse, bus stops, walking distance to Portman Rd stadium and Ipswich Town Centre and of course new Class 745/0 Electric Class 755/3/4 Bi-mode Flirt trains that are in service. With the Class 90 Mk3s that are due to be replaced when more Class 745/0s are in service. And Class 360 & Class 321 that terminates at Ipswich from London Liverpool Street. And a new freight only chord line been built for heavy duty freight trains to avoid using the GEML towards London. With some of the freight trains heading to Stratford and diverting onto the North London Line.

Wrong it’s only 2 lines ips to Shenfield then it’s 4 to Liv st. And There’s no freight only line at all

I think my correspondent is referring to the Bacon Factory curve at Ipswich which allows trains from Felixstowe to head for Ely without reversing at Ipswich and vice versa.

A timely video as the Hauled Stock units are due to be gone by April. The first 720 has also arrived at Ilford Depot, the ambitious plan is to have them operating the Southend Victoria line by the Summer. Out of interest, what did you think of the 745?
@BoogiesTrains5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the purpose of my trip was to get a last run on the loco hauled service. I expect I'll make more videos at Stratford and Bethnal Green once the new stock starts to appear. I found the 745 very comfortable and spacious. I was in the last carriage which was not busy. The acceleration is very noticeable.

I hope the builders of the 755s know that their failures get rescued by a 60 year old British loco haha. Suckers. Great video by the way

Hi can you do it in Lowestoft Suffolk
@BoogiesTrains4 жыл бұрын
I visited Lowestoft by train a few years ago before I was making videos. I was on my way to the nearby Warners Gunton resort. I enjoyed the journey there via Norwich and back to London via Beccles. Not sure when I might get the opportunity to return to the area. There was some evidence of an old line between Warners and the sea which was also quite interesting.

This wasn't the day the new train was stranded for five hours at Stratford after breaking down again, was it?

No. That was a couple of days later.

Thank you. I use a Panasonic Lumix TZ90. It is a lightweight stills camera but, like all digital cameras also has a reasonable video capability, including 4K. I chose it because it is light but has a 60x optical zoom. This makes it easy to carry about and also makes it possible to get closer to the action. Equally important as the camera is the production software. I use Power Director. I use version 15 which is quite old now but have not seen any obvious reason to pay for an upgrade. The best quality output form version 15 is 30fps HD. Perhaps newer versions support a higher quality. I can't find any clear information about this. Power Director does include camera shake reduction and lighting improvement capability which I do use. The railway often presents a dark subject against a dark background with a very bright sky or backlight. The software helps to mitigate some of this. The software also offers a background noise reduction facility but it doesn't deal with wind noise very effectively. The camera has two microphones mounted within the top surface which are prone to picking up wind noise. I am currently experimenting with a baffle device to mitigate this but it keeps blowing off.
@MePeterNicholls5 жыл бұрын
You need a wind fluffy for your mic.
@BoogiesTrains5 жыл бұрын
I know. The microphones are integrated into the top surface of the camera so are prone to picking up the wind noise. I have been experimenting with a device that sticks on but it tends to blow away.

I was only there for a little over an hour. I got the 11:00 from Liverpool St, arriving just before 12. I would have stayed a bit longer but the chance to ride back in a 745 was too good to miss.

This line was always going to become a commuter regional route ultimately. No more Intercity's as these new trains are in no way Intercity trains. I only wish they had better suspension (as per all new trains) where clunks and grinding under the trains is due to the entire generation of new trains having fundamental design flaws. 800's are so bad I now take longer and drive as I hate them that much.
@BoogiesTrains5 жыл бұрын
I had one iffy journey on an 800 to Plymouth but subsequent trips there and from Edinburgh have been OK. I'll be going to Bristol towards the end of March and there is no way I'm driving so I'll be sampling the new GWR timetable. The 745 back from Ipswich was very comfortable and the way the door vestibules are arranged is quite different to, for example, the Electrostars. Once I was seated, the ambiance felt quite similar to a mark 3. Like the 800s, they accelerate very quickly. Both the 800 series and the 745 are way more comfortable than the Pendolinos. Given that the mark 4 coach profile was designed for tilting, I can't work out why the Pendolino is so claustrophobic. Similarly, given that the Eurostar 373s are compatible with the domestic network, why can't we have dual level luggage shelves on the 800s. It would make the luggage problem go away if most people could put their 'cabin' size cases on the upper level of the luggage rack.
@richardwills-woodward5 жыл бұрын
@@BoogiesTrains Sadly, the ambience in the 800's is appalling - like going to hospital. The seats are a problem and I can't take more than half an hour - even then I have back twinges. They are hard as steel. The noise in them drives me insane - rough riding and noisy, with the clunking underneath - I go mad at the cheapness of them. No sound insulation and on top of that, the design in first class too - it is not even standard class comfort in any of the old trains - you get nothing for the extra money. It is sad. Very sad in my view. Maybe your Bristol trip will be better but I have travelled on 5 journeys now - Yorkshire and Bristol and all terrible. Unless they've made perfect track alignments, changed the seats and added a cushion underneath the coaches, I don't hold out much hope! The 745's are just commuter bodies and inside just reflect the regional commuter trains on any other. The other reason they can't be deemed Intercity is they are too damn slow due to the linseed. 21st century - 100mph is fine for a regional metro but not for an Intercity. This is serious slow lane stuff. Even 125mph being the only option is now not appropriate. 4hrs to 4hr 15 to Edinburgh at best timings is a horror show in the 21st century. All other countries in Western Europe (if indeed you can call them countries anymore), Japan, Taiwan, South Korea has high speed trains and even the US will soon. That said, HS2 is about capacity but the speed is most welcome IF they ever manage to get it done. Everything in the UK just takes too long to build.
