So, am I right in thinking that this is the one station on the third rail network where you can stand and watch DC electrics pass at 100 mph on a regular basis? Happy to be told otherwise...just love that frenetic clickety clack. Wish I still lived in England to hear and see it.

I think it's 100 down to the approach to Eastleigh so Shawford might be another spot (most stop at Winchester). Farnborough through Hook is another 100 mph stretch I think.

@@siangambrell3484 Australia since 1968. Grew up in south London 1947-1968, lived in Hastings 2002-2006. Used to watch trains between Thornton Heath and Selhurst as a child from our back yard fence next to the up main Brighton line. Know the LSWR main line well from past researches and videos, but wasn't sure exactly how much effort had been put into upgrading sections from Eastleigh through Basingstoke to 100 mph in the last decade or so, hence my question

Ow, a 442 off for scrap - looking as svelte as when introduced to the denizens of Weymouth ; is it really that long since they were the pride of the south west? Always thought they were the design pinnacle of the third rail electrics, especially once they sorted out that waste of space in the centre car. And then SWT decided they needed still more seats per train...
