Trains at Shrewsbury, WML - 10/1/18

In this video I visited Shrewsbury station located on the Welsh Marches Line as well as a junction for the Cambrian Coast, North Wales Coast and Heart of Wales Lines. Services are seen by Arriva Trains Wales, West Midlands Railway and Virgin Trains.
Shrewsbury was absolutely glorious, the station has a real sense of character and has some lovely views on offer. The variety was also very good from 175s and plenty of 158s to 153s, 170s and even a 221 Super Voyager. The signalling is a mix of LED and Semaphore which made for an interesting change too. Definitely will come back here, what a beautiful station.

For Facts about the signal box on the junction between the lines to Hereford and Wolverhampton read below Jointly constructed from 1902 to an enlarged standard LNWR design of 1876, the three storey structure is built of two storeys of red brick and cement, with a third floor mainly of wooden weather board pin-panel containing the glass windows, all topped by a Welsh slate pitched roof.[1] Access is via a door on the rear, with the lower two floors housing interlocking signalling equipment accessed via two internal wooden staircases.[1] The main operational floor houses a 180 lever interlocked frame, divided into two sections: Abbey Foregate to Sutton Bridge; Shrewsbury station to Crewe Junction.[1] The frame scale makes it the largest remaining mechanical signal box on the British network, and from 2011 it became the largest mechanical signalbox in the world, following the closure of the 191 lever box at Spencer Street in Melbourne, Australia.[1] Today only approximately half of the levers are in operational use, although it still takes two signal men to operate the complete system on a 24/7 basis, allowing 300 train movements per day.[1]

Nice video I use Shrewsbury all the time Telford Central is my local station, The Crewe local is the first train off the Heart of Wales Line and does the last one down the Heart of Wales Line. the 1433 off Shrewsbury front 2 coaches come off Aberystwyth rear 2 come off Holyhead. Also the 0810 off Shrewsbury to Cardiff a class 67 with 4 Mark 3 Coaches and a DVT The Aberystwyth & Pwllheli trains divides at Machynlleth front 2 coaches go on to Aberystwyth, Rear 2 coaches go on to Pwllheli

Had a similar issue once in Machynlleth where the two 158's wouldn't couple back together. Had to leave with just the one train in the end.

Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, and Alderley Edge were extra stops for Arriva due to the Northern Strikes. You were right about them being extra calls.

As a Shrewsbury local platforms 1 & 2 are now obsolete. They were demolished as the little use they were getting. Platform 8 is also obsolete in the 80s it was used for the mail rail and the prison it goes straight to the prison and the mail was moved from there.

How mad today I went to the tallyllyn railway by train and 158 841 was my train and it caused problems to so my train was 20 minutes late into Shrewsbury + while I was waiting for my train to the tallyllyn railway a class 67 stopped at platform 7 got a green signal and the Driver decided to go max power and blast the horn my ears went num straight after
