Fabulous, loved the peaks I moved to the East Yorkshire area in 1990, and know York station from then, loved to see the area with track and is now a car park. Brilliant thank you 👍🏼

The opening shot said it all for me, back in a time when we had rail staff who checked on the condition of the tracks, a time long since passed.

Indeed Pen Go’s. I like how they extinguish sleeper fires with a bucket of water and no ho vis vest! Simpler times indeed.

Brings back happy memories. Would have been about 1986 that my parents rented a cottage just outside York for a half term holiday and on a visit to York for the day they dumped me (my request) on York Station for the day while they went off to do the minster, cobbles etc etc. Still got my book with that's days numbers. Great video, thanks for posting.

Really pleased we could help bring back those memories Shane. During the early eighties I too would get ‘dumped’ most Saturday afternoons during the summer whilst my parents went shopping. I usually found myself on Prestatyn station, although occasionally this would be Colwyn Bay or Rhyl. Fabulous memories of class 40 hauled Summer Saturday services to Llandudno!! Happy days indeed.

Brilliant video. Brought back memories of when my brother and l used to ‘spot’ there in the mid 70 - early 80s. Thanks for sharing.

These videos are so enjoyable, all memories but also lots of inspiration for the modellers of the era, good amount of freight workings then. Nice to see those 110s, had the 6 car DMU at 6:50 a couple of 108s behind the 110?
@kartwheelkarl4 жыл бұрын
Really pleased you're enjoying the collection Tom. I think the emu formation you're referring to was 110 + 108 + 101, all two car.

Wonderful stuff. Quite unusual for the 47 on vans at about the 22 minute mark to have come down the avoiding lines. Note how it crosses over all of the tracks - I would hazard that this is a working from Rowntrees at Fawdon (Newcastle), and it's about to call at Dringhouses yard to attach/detach traffic. This would normally have worked through the station - the signallers tried to keep the slower moving freight traffic out of the way of the passenger workings.
@kartwheelkarl3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for shedding light on that Gareth. As you explained, that movement would have been one preferably avoided by the signalling dept. It would have blocked several paths south of the station until it was completed.
@garethjones96353 жыл бұрын
Potentially sloppy working at the 5 minute mark too! The HST which is presumably on an Anglo Scottish working has been brought to a stand. It's then passed by the 47 on the southbound passenger and by a northbound DMU on a local, probably from Leeds or Sheffield. Having said that, this could well have been done deliberately to allow passengers off the DMU to make their northbound connections.

@@garethjones9635oh yes...the days of collaboration to ensure connections were made! Aren’t TOC’s are now more concerned about potential delays leading to compensation payments.
@garethjones96353 жыл бұрын
@@kartwheelkarl Indeed, the TOCs were fined if trains overran their permitted station dwell times without permission, a significant disincentive for collaborative working! The discredited franchise system has now effectively been dismantled, admittedly accelerated by Covid when passenger numbers fell off a cliff, and most of the remaining franchises are being run on a cost plus basis. It's not quite clear what comes next, but I would hope for a return to a more unified network. We will see!

..Great one mate..!!! ~ When York was York,, before it got completely ruined by having most of its Tracks ripped -up, & frigging overhead wiring & rigging everywhere...I remember it being just like it was in your vid' here...with all the 47's, 31's, 45's etc...+ others....you could always spend a few hours there and have great fun..anytime day or night..as I did back in the mid 80's...such a shame it's ruined now...& all you would see os electrics, & fuckin' boring sprinters,,

Great footage - the P/Way certainly looks in pretty poor condition at first glance
@kartwheelkarl4 жыл бұрын
Doesn't look great does it Jeremy. Bear in mind that this was just a few years before electrification. Much of this pway would be replaced by concrete sleepers I would think.
@garethjones96353 жыл бұрын
The PW was in a bit of a state at this point with maintenance bring carried out solely on an as needed basis. I can't now remember whether permission had been granted to electrify the route, but in any case pretty much everything you see here was about to be ripped out, including the electro-pneumatic point motors, one of which can be heard at the 9.51 mark as 47 103 and its parcels train recedes. In fact, the pruning (rationalisation) went too far, and in respect of this some tracks were reinstated a few years later to improve operational flexibility. This happened at Leeds station, too.

An interesting one @ 3.33, 37102 has 2 different peaks ! Possible collision?
@djtrainspotter4 жыл бұрын
37102 looks to of lost her split boxes and had cut-away cab at no.2 end earlier in 1986 after some repair. Similar to 37019 and 37138. Also of note is 102 received two depot motif's (ED and MR) prior to becoming 37712.
