Trains in Northern California

This week, we look at a bunch of different trains and railroads in the northern portion of California. We'll see passenger and freight trains as well as some museum operations. There's commuter trains, long distance Amtrak trains, Amtrak California, short lines, and major freight railroads in the high sierras. All aboard!

Mike, at 9:38 on the NWP, where is that location... i dont recognize it. Btw, SMART is supposed to start service in March or late spring, Ive heard both things. and it is going to be free until July 4th, if you were planning on a trip out to see it in service :)

1:00 Are KCS locomotive rare in California? I live in KC, where KCS locomotive can be common! 1:20 does Amtrak California usually run single level trains? 2:02 I like that horn! 3:00 cab car in the middle! 3:25 there's an inspection vehicle behind the Genesee and Wyoming train! Who owns that blue truck? 4:02 the Alamont Commuter Express is the longest Commuter railroad, with 80 miles! 4:45 that's a lot of coil cars! 5:37 4th loco is an Et44C4! I've seen 13 of them less than 18 months after they were built! 6:17 why are there superliners on Amtrak California trains? are they diner cars? 7:51 does the Napa Valley Wine train only have the one streamlined full dome? 8:19 I like that bell sound! They look really flat! 9:40 that must be really rare to have concrete ties on a shortline! Unless the trackage is for the SMART commuter train! 10:05 does it snow that often in Northern California? 10:50 I like that junction on the bridge? Where is it again? 12:07 i can tell that the 4th loco is a teir 4 by the Numbers on the large radiator, and smaller logo! The trucks are already as dirty as the 3rd loco!
