What a smashing assortment of workings . We will neve ever see anything like this again.

About 5 mins in, HST with only a leading power car.... Very Unusual. Thanks for the memories.

+Whylet Themknow Very unusual indeed, although back then something you could see if you were lucky - doesn't seem to ever happen these days though. Thanks.

Marvellous, fabulous shots and sounds - 89001 looked superb gleaming in the sunshine - never seen a HST with only one power car

Mouthwatering stuff Darren. Another excellent video. If only Peterborough were like this now! Great shots of the royal train, the 08 through the station with empty stock and 89001. Nice vintage sounds from the 20's, 31's, 37's and 47's too. Lovely.

Brilliant Darren, great memories of Peterborough in the 80's. 89001 looking amazing, 37031 had different colour split box nose ends! Sucha variety, stabled locos aswell. I remember walking up and down the mail coach area north of the station bagging numbers late 70's early 80's also. Choppers sounded lovely on their exit. Great stuff mate

brilliant video there great shots of the 89 and a 08 on the fast line one in million chance of that happening again.

Excellent compilation 👍 Some unusual workings, the one ended HST, the DMU with MK1 BG in tow (I know DMUs with tail loads were commonplace in the 1960s but thought it stopped long before 1988)

half of the trains are stil around today at peterborough!, brilliant vid!

Great video Darren. Such variety, makes the place look even more like a ghost town now! Oh how I wish I had taken a proper interest during this period-I gave up when my Dad left the railway in 1979 and didn't bother again for 28 years! Andy

Love your videos and glad to see you're still doing it today (I am working through the 80's ones as that was when I was still a lad and this is my favourite era of the railways )

Excellent video. It's nice to see Peterborough, my local, when the heritage diesels were running. They're better than 66s and 91s nowadays. Wish I could also see some videos there in steam days.

Some good footage there. I used to travel around on Rail Rovers back in the late 70s, early 80s and have loads of still photos but no videos. Shame.

We were both about at the same time then! I also have a large collection of stills, but lucky enough to have all this video footage as well - just not both together.

loved that Paxman howl about 15mins in. They dont sound the same now. Miss the sounds and smells of this era.
@MrDeltic158 жыл бұрын
+machosker The HST's of this era certainly made some noise :-) It's all a bit more 'sterile' these days, you're quite right.

brilliant vid Daz, i remember the 08's doing the mainline run upto Nene sidings on a daily basis, Choppers were quite rare through P'boro though. You cease to amaze me on your vids, keep the P'boro stuff coming mate, hope to see you at Nvr Diesel Gala at the end of September, KOYLI'S going (-:

08 on the up fast line? Presumably an inter-yard trip working. I wonder if that Gresley coach in the viaduct inspection train was saved?

i will look out for your new videos as I work at Peterborough station for 13 year from 1988 as a shunter 1st then platform staff till end of 2000 so should be there some were lol :-) , then I went in the Peterborough power box as a signaller so I seen a lot of stuff come and go and its not the same as it was :-( and not getting any better
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. Peterborough certainly had a lot to offer in this era, great variety of workings and freight. Plenty more from here to come too!

Nice catch of the Royal train at 10:55! The one ended HST was my favorite!The work train and the 08 with mail! I think the class 89 looked good only with flat cars and shunting HST and Intercity 225 trains.

Cheers Tony. Plenty more from Peterborough in the 80's and 90's to come, don't worry :-) I'll certainly be at the NVR Autumn Diesel Gala on both days for KOYLI(and the other visiting locos), don't worry about that either!

The HST with just a single power car was very rare back then, but even more so now. This was just before the 225's started coming on stream on the ECML.

Well you don't see that everyda, an 08 on the up fast. Nice shot of 89001 dragging the hst you have some really good footage here, liked and favorited.

Thanks Andy. Yes, i was a regular visitor to Peterborough station in the late 80's and early 90's, and there was always plenty of variety and action then - unlike today!
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, HST's and 317's can still be seen there today of course - probably a bit wider now with several different coats of livery having been applied since 1988 LOL

Thanks. Yes, some not to be repeated shots there for so many different reasons. I've got more of 89001 to come in later movies though.

...W.T.F....@ 5:35 an HST with only ONE power car on front..nothing at the back...?? Never seen one like that before man..!!! :)
@andyburbidge49386 жыл бұрын
Guessing that as its a buffer fitted example on the front, that possibly a 91 had failed, so they sent to set back with just the power on, rather that cancel the service.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It takes this 42 year old back to those days as well - plenty more age reduction movies to come!
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It was good to get the 08 on parcels on the main for sure - although a regular move to shunt the coaches into the bay platform 1, it usually would run via platform 2 or 3.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kev. Yes, i spent many an evening here in the Speedlink era for the procession of workings from late afternoon through into the evening - not quite the same now for sure.
@afqr200711 жыл бұрын
nice video....there always seems to be a lack of ballast on tracks from around the 70's and 80's probably just the camera and how it picks it up but compared to today very little
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. Peterborough was a great spot in the mid 80's to mid 90's for traction indeed. The 20's were quite rare down here, but would sometimes appear on a Redland aggregates working, or engineers - i believe this was a working from Whitemoor, possibly to Toton.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom. Yes, Peterborough was quite different in this era(better i dare say!), but it's quite interesting to see the 91's appearing on test and in service(coming in later movies)and how the freight changes and parcels disappear.

@graemekornicki68104 жыл бұрын
Exellent footage espesially the 89, it would have worked the commuter service to peterboro then ran round i think it returned ecs ?? Only saw a hst with 1 power car once at doncaster in 1986, heading south.suprised i managed a shot as it had stopped in pl 3.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks Keith. It was a good spell there that day, and sadly i can't see anything similar happening like this again - all too uniform with today's 66's in charge.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks. 89001 will appear a few more times yet, including in InterCity 'Swallow' livery as 'Avocet'. The nostalgia video production will no doubt increase over the Autumn and Winter as the days get shorter and weather worse - if that's possible after this year to date!
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
I can't remember the make now i'm afraid, but it was quite large and took small size tapes that could be put inside a larger VHS adaptor to play them back if you wanted. I just copied the footage onto VHS tapes, and am now converting them from VHS to DVD and then uploading and editing these movies from them.
@MrDeltic1512 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Plenty more to come from Peterborough - and 89001 will be seen again, this time in 'Swallow' livery and named 'Avocet'.

The Largo Logo livery suited the 47's very nicely, and of course 47585 was a bit of a 'pet' loco for the area.

Thanks Hayden. It's a bit different now for sure, and you just don't get the sounds from locos today like the mix on offer here sadly.

Thanks. I hadn't noticed about the ballast, but now you mention it maybe it does look a bit lower than today?

Very cool! You don't happen to have any videos of neighbouring Huntingdon by any chance do you? Somehow i can't find any video of huntingdon on youtube older than 2014! I understand there not being anything from '80s or '90s but would have thought there would be older than 2014 though.
