Very enjoyable video. Brought back some happy memories when I used to travel around London on a one day travelcard with my trusty Pentax MX photting trains, if I managed to catch a Crompton working that was always a good bonus. Clapham Junction, Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall, West Ealing, Acton Mainline and Waterloo were favourite haunts of mine back in the early 1990s.

Glad it brought back good memories, as I’ve mentioned before, this is exactly the reason I set up the channel. You used a Pentax MX did you? well snap! that was my camera for all of the 1980s too! What a brilliant camera it was, so light and small in the hand I could hand hold down to 1/4 sec without camera shake! All the still pictures you see at the beginning of my compilation videos from the 1980s were taken on that camera - happy memories indeed! Thanks for commenting 👍😊

Crompton heaven thanks for sharing. Plenty of the 33's shot there in '88 were soon to be withdrawn unfortunately. My local beasts in the 80's. Surprisingly my ex g/f drove a few although not passed hehe :)

I grew up overlooking the Weymouth line, so got used to the sound of a Crompton slogging up the bank every hour. Great to see these characterful locos in action again! 🚂👍 Those departmental moves aruound Wandsworth are very interesting.

Glad you enjoyed it, Wandsworth Road in the late 80s was an interesting place to spend a lunch hour.

Yes. I was lucky to be born and raised in the South - lots of variety from 4 BR Regions!. Thanks for watching. 😊

This brings back happy memories, though originally I wasn't too keen on this class. When they replaced the Warship diesel-hydraulics on the Waterloo-Exeter route things really slowed down as they were a lot less powerful. But I grew to love em in the end and now really miss them!

Being a South London /Surrey lad at the time, the Class 33s were very much part of the scene for me. I don’t remember them replacing the Warships, but do remember the disappointment when they filled in for a 50 on the W’loo-Ex. But, like you, time has mellowed my view and I quite like them now. 👍😊 Thanks for watching and commenting.

Love seeing the 33s working with TC sets. It must of been strange for the driver when operating from the TC end. You open the throttle and there’s no engine sound , just a shove from the back. I once had a ride in a mk4 DVT when propelling a set into the works at Doncaster. It was just quiet,no noise, the 91 was 8 carriages behind us.

39:48 my 16th birthday!! What station/halt is 3:46? Is that Wandsworth Rd too? Look like a Chatham EMU appearing on the right. So much rather sad looking rolling stock being dragged through here excuse My ignorance but is there a yard nearby it's all going to? 5:54 such a familiar sight! Used to see seacow workings exactly like this thundering through Dorking Deepdene in 70s and 80s 9:50 that's just fabulous!!! Just about to start my GCSEs around thay day. Then a summer of gigs and fun in London!! 12:49 oh man that's the best yet. Full pelt

Thanks for watching and commenting, great my videos bring back memories for so many of you. 😊. And, yes, that is Wandsworth Road at 3:46. Eagle-eyed viewers will note that in my early shots there is no footbridge linking the platforms (underpass only), but by 1990 a metal footbridge had been constructed enabling me to film from there instead.

What is the old unit at 3:50?
@OldOakTrains5 күн бұрын
Sorry Paul, I’ve no idea. I didn’t write it down at the time, and I’m not sure I would have known for certain back then anyway. Perhaps someone else on here could let us know? 🙏

By 1988 a lot of the knackered Cromptons were laid up at Eastleigh and Salisbury, their lives over. Strange how Mid Kent wasn't their patch at the time, freight work given to 73s and 56s.
@robtyman42812 ай бұрын
That's because Kent and Sussex used 'Thumpers' (Hastings Diesels) instead of 33's, for passenger services.
