Thank you so much for another excellent video !. My grandson is a volunteer driver and fireman on the Swanage railway and was assisting firing on Flying Scotsman , he gives a quick wave at 13.04 - 13.18. Thanks again from a very proud Grandad in France !

AAAHHHH!!!!! Its the Devon Belle Observation car! Omg! What a stunning car, glad they have it on Flyting Scotsman's train! That car is the reason I fell in love with the Swanage Railway. Lovely video and awesome railway. I'm always stunned at your amazing videos! Thank you for post!

Your knowledge of the area, ability to get to viewpoints and vistas, for your super smooth pans, overcame the autumnal gloom and damp. Pity that the weather did not shine on the visitor for the late October visit.

Also good to see the shots of 34028 Eddystone on the alternating service train. It seemed appropriate for them to be working the service together like "mother and daughter", given the Gresley-Bulleid connection and broad similarities. Really great to see all the lineside shots as I was helping at Swanage all day so only got to see FS starting from there and crossing the service train at Harmans Cross on the final inbound run. I like the shots from West Hill at Corfe - I have been up East Hill and the castle itself but that is another great vantage point.

Well, this sort of makes up for her non appearance at Bluebell, holding that thought for next year!!!! This time Matthew it was actually good to see backwards working just to see the tender detail!!! The Eddy bookend workings were welcome plus the on shed opening shots👍👍

Yeah, never really understood the culture of advertising a locomotive for an event or railtour, when that loco is under overhaul at the time and no guarentee of being fit and ready by the deadline; unless there's been some behind the scenes testing/assurance. Was great to see Eddy out as well. Got very lucky with the sunrise.
@iankemp11312 жыл бұрын
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel The Swanage Railway sensibly didn't advertise the event until it was 100% certain that FS would be ready after its overhaul, although that did truncate the time for publicity and bookings. But it looks as if enough people found out!

@iankemp11312 жыл бұрын
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Indeed, kudos to the Swanage and FS staff who helped sort out some of the teething troubles on the spot, particularly before the 1505 departure. Must have been nerve-wracking with a full train of passengers sitting in the station waiting to leave! But they succeeded.

Great to see these shots. One day left (Wednesday) of FS actually operating trains at Swanage, then she will be on static display until 6th November (you can go on to the footplate through the corridor tender). There were great scenes at Swanage too with a bagpiper and Alan Pegler's daughter waving the train away. The Devon Belle car looks magnificent inside and out and seems to have been well used.

In my amateur way, it does seem dangerous for a train to pull carriages backwards; how can the driver know if, say, a tree has fallen across the track - or a cow escaped the field and wandered on to it. What am I missing here……..?

Sometimes I think that some of these people need reminding that when an engine pulls a train it's not meant to do so by it's teeth!!!!
@TheSouthernerYTChannel Жыл бұрын
It's worth remembering, this railway does not have a turntable large enough to accommodate a Pacific. Tender-first running is an operational relief.
@Eleina1951 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Point taken. The better option is to have an engine at each end. Not necessarily for every trio only when it's needed.

Lovely video but without being critical your video title is misleading when it says through the Purbecks,there is no Purbecks its the Isle of Purbeck,journalists are worse for getting it wrong.Once again lovely video.
@TheSouthernerYTChannel2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Despite 'the Purbecks' not being an official title for the area, it is a frequently used modern colloquialism and understood well by the majority of people in the local area, so will be staying on the video.
