Switchers are so awesome to watch . Especially an old Conrail like this one .

Not to many operators left with just switch units these days. I often spent time by the Tulsa, Sapulpa Union in Tulsa, Ok they run 2 out of 3 switchers and the Sand Springs RR had 3 but mostly used 2 as well.

This video brings up a lot of memories. I used to live across the river in South Jersey when I was a kid. I would frequently see some SW1001's in Conrail Blue on the Bordentown Secondary and around Camden. Sometimes I would even catch a few GP38s pulling a short freight thru Audubon or Haddonfield. I have many good memories of Conrail and the friendly crews who worked the area. They were always happy to give a horn show to my brother and I as we said hi. I hope that someday the Conrail Historical Society that I am a part of can have our own locomotive in beautiful dress blue paint. Thanks for posting this trainutjob.

Interesting. Glad to see some life back on the branch again. I live near there. Back in the "glory days" there were several industries served. Was very sad to see them die. Loss of rail traffic, more importantly major loss of jobs. Maybe things will get better again, who knows?

That first signal is extremely delayed. Imagine if the train was going 40mph the car would have little warning. I wanna add that I'm a contractor for a class 1 railroad here in the south and I have been seeing more and more Wisconsin Central Railroad box cars lately. Really odd to see down here.
@Lynchfan884 жыл бұрын
Great Short Line action here. One nice possibility would be if that former Conrail 8635 was sanded down & re-painted in the new owner's colors. I noticed she was hauling old Wisconsin Central boxcars so that's cool too. I also hope the owner's are doing whatever they can to maintain the engine itself inside. Thanks for posting this, really good.

Is the railroad crossing on Blue Grass Road still active?
@82accs5 жыл бұрын
If you are asking about the Bluegrass crossing between Welsh and Grant Aves, the answer is no. I've lived right near it for 20 years and I never saw anything on that stretch. There is some history there though. That line used to continue west , past Chapman Ford, crossing over the Roosevelt Boulevard, which at the time was a 6 lane underpass. In the '50s the trestle was torn down and the Boulevard underpass was filled in as the highway was expanded to 12 lanes. Back when the line crossed the Boulevard, it continued to Bustleton Avenue where it ended with a freight and passenger station. Hope this helps!

The southern end of Conrail Shared Ops is the old Sunoco Marcus Hook refinery in the town of the same name (dates back to 1902) - in short, before Big Mistake #1 - it was finally shuttered less than a decade ago. The refinery is like the town - it had operations on both sides of town - and thus both sides of Interstate 95. Conrail Shared Operations, Marcus Hook Yard is on the left (south) side of Interstate 95 - however, they have tracks east of the NEC, on the northern side of I-95 (and east of 10th Street (US 13)). I have relatives on both sides of Marcus Hook (and the suburbs thereof) - DiCostanza Sandwich Shop was (under previous Management) B&M Sandwich Shop, and remains my hoagie shop when visiting the area; it's on Market Street, just west of SEPTA Marcus Hook. Market Street ends at 10th.
