Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Colin Quinn is reviewed by Ben Mankiewicz (host of Turner Classic Movies), Tim Grierson (Screen International, Deadspin, Paste, Rolling Stone, The Dissolve, Playboy), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap and Linoleum Knife podcast) and Christy Lemire (www.ChristyLemire.com).
See what other critics are saying: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/train...
Since she was a little girl, it's been drilled into Amy's (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn't realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo-enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment-but in actuality, she's kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she's writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.

I'm not a big fan of Amy Schumer. And it's not that she's mediocre and "normal" looking. It's the fact that she always has to mention it. Even in this trailer, it's in there. Sex and her looks seems to be her only topics. And this film looks like a run of the mill romantic comedy.

Why doesn't Appatow have the balls to cut a superfluous scene? I'm sure the actors featured are still getting paid...
@MarketResearchReading114
@MarketResearchReading114 9 жыл бұрын
DarKool81 If he did that he probably wouldn't have as much pull when it comes time to cast odd balls. If they know they're going to be in, even at worst a shitty scene, then they're more liable to show up if they're not confident in their abilities.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! I have to disagree with you guys. The script (there is so much improvisation I actually hesitate to use that word) for this was awful. The character development is weak, and everything from the funeral onward rings false and feels contrived. Not to mention the usual Judd Apatow problems of scenes going on too long and him not willing to edit out anything. The whole thing just felt like rambling improvised sketch upon improvised sketch, loosely tied together by a cliched romantic comedy plot. BTW the intervention scene that you guys hated was by far the best part of the movie IMO.

It dragged on A LOT longer in every scene than I was expecting. Maybe I was just tired but I found that it could have been shortened by at least half an hour. Don't get me wrong, there are scenes that are genuinely funny, it's just that there's big gaps in between. I guess I was expecting something a bit faster paced such as Bride's Maids.

Judd Apatow movies are always reliable for some great punchlines. The story here looks secondary to setting up laughs for funny people like Schumer and Hader.

TheSpiritOfTheTimes So irrespective of whether it's Schumer or "the media" (classic weasel term) forcing you watch her, my primary point still stands: NO ONE is forcing Amy Schumer down your totally-hetero throat. If you don't like her, don't watch her show or her films. You're not being forced to do anything, tough guy.

Just use a 10 point rating scale for f#%k sake. Adding decimals makes it a 100 point scale and I defy you to verbally describe the difference between a 7.1 and 7.2. A 10 point scale is almost too much.

Ben's analysis is excellent as usual, but rated a little too high. This movie had some seriously implausible scenes with logic errors and timelines out of whack. Like why is Lebron in New York all the time? Apatow can't cut the unfunny drama scenes either. But there is a 1.5 hour funny movie here and it's worth seeing.
