This will be the standard that all town builds will strive for.

I love modeling city scenes in Trainz too. In both modeling and railfanning people tend to focus on rural environments, I've always prefered built up environments and small towns.

I am so so so happy that you are doing *good* City and town scenes. I love rural scenes, but my real love are passenger and freight trains in cities and then long travel to the next stop. The Trainz folk from EUROPE, especially eastern europe and Germany, make really nice city scenes but it's so nice that you are doing *something* as far as city trains go, and not so terrible to run steam as well as diesels and electrics on. Thanks and as usual---your routes are superb and really glad that you're doing all of these works and giving so much for us to reflect on and try.

In Krakow, where I live, the traffic lights are right over top of you. I flew to Florida a few years ago, and in the middle of the night, after 12 hours flying, I would drive up to intersections, and find myself in the middle of the intersection! Turns out in Orlando, they put the lights on the far side of the intersection (I guess so drivers can see them?) It was quite the shock to discover that when I saw headlights bearing down on me. ;-) BTW, that one trash can is on the sidewalk, right where the crosswalk enters. That would be horrible placement for pedestrians. :-)

Jon Glass it’s like that all throughout the US. It seems more logical to not have to look straight up at the light lol

Same with me in Australia! There we have lights on both sides which works well

Joe I have restarted my Edmonton map because of a computer crash. I am using your method to create the roads. Use a sidewalk on some and a retaining wall sunk on the other side to contain the road texture. Works well. You are definitely an inspiration. Keep up the great work.

It would be nice if someone would just make some blank roads and then use FG's lines to customize them. Like you said the texture road doesn't work well unless you have a sidewalk or something to define the edge.

I’ve seen traffic lights 🚦 like that. There’s one in my town that’s like that but it’s behind another set of lights. But my town just changed all The Hwy lights to those on a metal poles; expected the ones by my job; they still on wires. The local business hwy ones are still on wires too; but the Main Hwy is on metal poles

My current TANE project is Milwaukee Wisconsin in the 1950s. I've decided to build the full trolley system, as well as the interurban lines. I've already built the Milwaukee road repair shops, and gave it interactive features. So far, not much of the city has been built.

Approach Medium: This is a very inspirational video and route that you are creating. I like how you think outside the box when creating the routes in Trainz. Thank you for sharing these great route building techniques with us. It's amazing how you create these urban streets and roads by the way of textures. Super realistic effects that you have. This inspires me to create a NYC based route by hand rather than by DEM. Please continue to create these wonderful routes and commentary on route building. The good thing about this method of creating roads is that it doesn't use as many resources and possibly reduces stutter. Where did you find the FG_RM splines for your streets?

Hey, I absolutely love watching these, both relaxing and I learn a lot of different technics (techniques?) to add detail and make a great map! I am making one myself, first one, and I deleted all the scenery I made after watching you, because I realised how shit it looked. I remade it now with high quality assests, and it looks 100 times better. One question though, what do you recommend for roads in a city? YARN roads are weird (but intersections are great) and they don't suit the area, AASHTO is better but still not great. Your method of manual road making would be the best, especially in the tight corners I am making, but I am playing on a pretty crappy laptop and a lot of roadmark splines lag up the system terribly.
@ApproachMedium
@ApproachMedium 6 жыл бұрын
It's a lot of hit or miss experimenting to find the right road system I think. I tend to gravitate towards the AASHTO road system but it's beginning to look a bit dated at this point. Other than the splineless system, I'm using a JR adaptation of the YARN roads. I believe you can get them if you have the Tidewater route from JR or possibly my P&B route. I can't remember where else they've been used.
