Something I do with forested areas is use a browner hue of ground cover within the forest to reflect having less light hit the forest floor and a ground covering of decaying leaves. For those forested areas I usually use splines instead of individual trees. Oh, and currently use TANE. Previously had 2006 then 2009.

I used to put clumps of grass round the bottom of telegraph poles but it got tiring after a hundred of them. I use Ger Forest texture in forests.

I appreciate this video greatly! The railroad tracks along my line are extremely remote or on the back roads and old by ways deep in the Appalachian Mountains. alot of the track is hard to view unless you walk on them so this gave me a little inspiration.

Your video was posted some time ago but I just came across this, thank you for the tips & tricks here (just getting into Trainz). I bought 2019 version but hardly did anything with it & now just bought a 1yr subscription 2022 version so I need all the help I can get. Half of the battle for myself is just navigating around in Trainz, but it's coming along. Gotta start somewhere LOL. Thanks again!

Thats there is Gold to me, great stuff. But...lol....i Quote:" ...even the flattest of locations have some kind of hills or dips...." i call bullshit. Ride the Indian Pacific (trans Continental Railway) across the Nullabor Plain in Australia 1108 Miles(1783 km) with a 297mile (480km)section that is dead straight.

I use SAM VS Grass 2 as my default grass texture and SAM VS embankments because they have the most realistic grass texture and in the case of the ground texture the grass no repeating pattern. Since the embankments and grounds match you don't get an ugly outline at the bottom of the embankment. I have only built 3 routes and someone on a modelling forum commented on the signalling on one of my videos "You need more signalling and your distant signals aren't right". I replied that the signalling was 100% accurate to the actual real life signalling and was measured from OS 25" to the mile maps so every signal was exactly where it was in reality. He never admitted he was wrong but gave me a like !

I bought my first version of Trainz in 2015. And its taken until now to start to be able to say im pretty mediocre at things like terrain work and detailing. Im going all out with a massive urban scene currently as I continue to experiment with my skills and such. Its fun but trainz is very tedious is all I'll say. Good to have a video to throw some basic tips out for how to just get started.
