@@DebbiSmithDC and others in the thread 🧵 - let’s not forget everything she’s ever said, since she met Harry and before. Definitely since we’ve known about her. Even if some, of the extent of which, we didn’t know until hindsight. Certainly not the magnitude anyway. Who would think a prince who isn’t terrible looking or at least wasn’t (especially when he used to smile and not seem so crazy) and who is from day one grandson of, and one day son of and brother of, the monarch of their country… which is not even the richest, but the best well-known and respected royal family probably in the world…. Who could’ve had his pick of really lovely woman inside and out… would pick so quickly and against all advice n reason (and even expectation… if he knew anything about the history of the family and the church and princess 👑 Margaret, the queens 🫅 beloved sister) that he ended up with a psycho… OK yeah turns out he wasn’t so full a deck of cards himself… but…just.. 🤦🏻‍♀️ words fail, despite my attempt. 😂 But in the interest of full disclosure This said the woman who just typed “cart of decks” - and couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to be instead of “cart.” (obviously thinking of cards, but I digress as my brain 🧠 did) Just knew that wasn’t right. Lmao 🤣 OK only for like a second -😮but still that is worrying. I’m only 51 3/4 years old. I think I might blame H & M for this too 😂and I don’t mean the clothing store.

I have no doubt that Markle studied her “acquaintance “ Anna Pasternak’s book “Wallis” told from Wallis’ perspective.🙄 The same Anna P that did a hatchet job on Catherine in Tatler magazine that was so bad that Buckingham Palace threatened legal action. The same Anna P who wrote another book that got her into ALL sorts of trouble from book reviews to legal actions and YET got a glowing review in Oprah’s magazine. No one can convince me that Markle didn’t study Wallis and David just as much as she did Diana just not for as long. The parallels between the two couples is too eerily similar for her not to have.

I laughed out loud at the locals calling the ambassador’s residence “the red light district” 😆🤣 Wallis earned that from her pretentious attitude.

His making it all about his wife and how she is treated SO reminds me of Harry and his insistence on best treatment for Meghan. They both refuse to acknowledge their actual status at ALL. Gaah! Wife is more important than family, people, or honour.

We know the basic story of these pair, but when you get down to the nitty gritty bits in this book, about how self indulgent and privileged they where, when his people in Great Britain were on rations, and were being bombed on a daily basis, I can understand why no one ever wanted them in our country ever again. That does mimic Harry and Markle to the letter. Their glorified palaces however big will always be full of their own self imposed misery.

Apparently, Harry inherited his limited intellectual capacity from David/Edward. Skipped a few generations.
@LouisaWatt
@LouisaWatt 8 ай бұрын
I think some intelligence is reliant on empathy, which both couples lack to a shocking extent. Psychology measures some intelligence with animal species with “theory of mind” levels: how much does an organism understand that other organisms have separate thoughts, emotions and experiences? Dogs have more emotional intelligence than either David or Harry, not because of genetics, but because they are capable of thinking about something other than themselves.
@bridgetmclaughlin6198

What Harry lacks more than intellectual capacity is emotional intelligence and plain empathy. Before MM he seemed to have empathy but no more. Princess Diana called herself as thick as a plant but she had wonderful empathy. Not sure about the EI.

The Queens mother despised David and Wallace Simpson. She knew exactly the evil presented by this couple and understood exactly what their goals were. It is eerie that history is repeating itself with Harry and Meghan. The Queen must have been greatly grieved because it did not take her long to know exactly what Meghan’s goal was and like Wallace she was going to use another weakling Duke to try achieve it. I wish she would have been younger and in better health to deal with it.

Government House in Nassau is set on 10 acres, not huge (about the same size as Clarence House in London, where Charles & Camilla currently live) but certainly a decent size for 2 people. Fun fact: During her time in the Bahamas, the duchess started a new fashion trend - seashells studded with jewels and used as earrings, brooches and clasps on necklaces. The jewelers that made the pieces Wallis designed had their store on the Main Street (still selling those seashell earrings) until Nassau decided to clean up downtown and raise the rents. All the family-owned stores closed and now you only have duty-free and T-shirt stores that cater to the cruise ship people.

My sister lived in the Bahamas for a number of years. She HATED it. According to her, and this was only about 10 years ago, that it’s a 3rd world country with some very wealthy people’s holiday homes who bring EVERYTHING with them - friends, food, staff, booze etc. & don’t mix with the Islanders. It’s EXTREMELY expensive to the point if she’d been travelling she’d bring home nuts in particular because of the expense. She lived high on a hill with rich people views. One day, a priest at the bottom of the hill was stabbed to death getting money from an ATM. When complaining about not being able to make friends there she conceded there were some young men living further up the hill permanently but they were gold chains, fast cars types (a bit like the top dog in The Wire who’s risen above the streets of B’more 😂 & gone legit big time but the “street “ was in their DNA. That was the picture she painted in my head) who’d set up those mega lotteries they have in the US, while she was a conservative “housewife “ in her 50s. Karma for being a tax exile ?? 😱😡 SO I don’t imagine there were dry cleaners there back in the ‘40s. New York seems extreme so I well understand why people would think she was smuggling messages. As the Jews sewed their jewellery into the lining of their clothes during the war. Ironic much? PS. David - “that woman “ Harry - “this girl “.

Henry viii has never divorced any one after England saprate from Catholic church, he annulled his marriage to Catherine of aragon on the basis of that Catherine's marriage to Arthur was consummated and according to Bible brother must no marry his brother's wife. He annulled his marriage to Anne of cleves because their marriage was not consummated.
@arsewell
@arsewell Ай бұрын
It might seem like that but what he actually wanted was the Catholic Church but without the pope bossing him around and only because they wouldn't grant him an annulment from Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boylen - he didn't really care who - he just wanted a male heir & Catherine was only able to provide one living child, female. The Church of England is nearly identical in doctrine & dogma and they require an annulment for most ppl. But I think it can be bribed.

There would not have been any dry cleaners anywhere in the Bahamas. People aren't wearing clothes that require dry cleaning in the Bahamas in the 1930s-1940s. The Bahamas would have been primarily locals. The laborers of the island for anything that needed to be done. Nassau is small. There couldn't have been many people in their station of life on the islands. Island fever is a thing. After a while, you realize that every day is groundhog day. I don't care for either of them, but when you put yourself back in that time and consider his past life, you can see where a few of the complaints were warranted. I believe you pointed some out. While this pair were safe and moaning about their unsuitable accommodation in the Bahamas - in London my grandmother due to rationing went without food to feed her children. While my Grandfather was on fire watch duties - my grandmother huddled and cuddled her children in a cold and damp Anderson Shelter dug in the back garden. My mother had many stories of taking refuge in the local London Underground station. So yes I feel very aggrieved about this selfish pair especially when I read the Duke thought it a good idea to bomb his own people into submission because he wanted peace with Hitler’s Germany.

I spent an extensive time in the early eighties sailing all through the Bahamas. Back then, there was nothing there. The islands were mostly locals with very few extraordinary resorts. I can not fathom what the islands were like in the 1930s - 1940s. It had to be quite the culture shock. The weather is another hot, beautiful day with constant windstorm warm breezes, unless a storm thunders threw.

I mean, it is one thing to be hurt and even have a vendetta against your company, and even if you have a different view of the war (traitorous though it may be), how in the world do you justify asking for more money during a war? How do you justify thinking you are too good for ANY hardship whatsoever. What a couple of horrible, horrible people - I had no idea and I love British history.

Cheere I must have missed the banging from upstairs. Just when you think David can't shock us more, he does. The Allies and the UK, had their work cut out watching him, and his wife, as well as the enemy.

The Church and the Royal family would not have allowed a King to marry a Divorced Commoner. I am confused as to why the FBI would be involved in any investigation into Wallis prior to her marriage. That section of the chapter made no sense to me.

He truly sounds like a psychopath. The measured way he gets revenge, self focused, hedonistic. The whole world was incredibly lucky Wallis Simpson happened to meet him 😏🤔

You’re so kind! I use a Bobby Brown bronzer in Medium 2 as the base to darken the crease, then press a Doucee highlighter powder called “Glisten” in the lid and into the corner and then do the lid liner with Lash Step pressed eyeshowdow from their “Matte About You” palette and just apply with an angled brush. I should curl my eyelashes but I can’t find my eye lash curler and keep forgetting to buy one but I finish off with thrive mascara in “Bryn”.

@@cheeredenise I’m going to copy you! You can get away with not curling your eyelashes, because of the way your eyes are shaped…I wouldn’t worry with it!

You are fantastic - an amazing communicator\story teller - I can see someone will find you and you'll end up with a new career. Back to the plot - I still can't get away from Deja vu - it's like the Harry and Meghan saga, ENTITLEMENT.

The letter David wrote about thabks for the friendship I'm done, reminds me of MM when her interviewer published her relationship with PH without PH's knowledge. She wrote a letter or called saying, I thought we could be friends!!

I’ve commented quite a lot on cheere’s narratives, something I don’t usually do, though I love reading everyone else’s comments. I am daily horrified and ashamed by this traitor king. However from a personal perspective I have just discovered I have Jewish ancestry seems to make it all the more real to me. My family did suffer in the war, my grandad was at Dunkirk, I had uncles killed in France, my grandma was bombed out of her house 3 times. My dad was evacuated from Liverpool to wales when he was 3 years old. This had a massive impact on him. He’s 87 years old and I love him dearly, however he was without doubt emotionally damaged due to the horrific separation from his mother and family during formative years. I have asked him about the time he was evacuated but he says he remembers nothing. I often think he doesn’t want to remember. It’s heartbreaking how much that world generation suffered 😢
