This incident has been described by Mir Hussain Ali Kirmani in his Book
and it gives clear account on what really happened that day
The Sultan now sent for Muhammad Ali in private and repeated his determination to execute the prisoner, and told him that his opposition in such a measure tended to disturb and interrupt the operations of government, the regulation of the different departments of the state, and to do away with the example necessary to be shown to others-that he, the Sultan, in punishing this man only acted as directed by the provisions of the divine law, in order that other governors of districts and towns of the Kingdom, might in future avoid the commis sion of such crimes: but that leaving that alone, punishment was indispensable in newly established government; that the control and regulation of the troops and country might be ensured, for that it was a saying of the wise "in order to con firm or establish your government you must give the sword and that having taken out the dia mond and rubbed it on a stone, he swallowed it and so died! Someone found the date of his death in the following words: The prop or pillar of the state is fallen, 1198 Hijri.

Those times were very different from today brother. Sultan tried his best to implement new reforms like new calendar new army rules, new agricultural system, etc but the constant rebellions and British advancements were too much for him to handle alone, unfortunately no other ruler tried to see the British agenda

No doubt services of Muhammad Ali was unexplainable he was eyes and ears of Haider Ali.He has won many battles for mysore.He was dead honest.But he violated military rule and penalised.His Loyalty with Sultan was unquestionable.But later years Mir Sadiq Mir qamar Gulam Ali was given lot of space and rules were not followed with same spirit.

As far as I know Muhammad Ali commandant was a very brave and intelligent military General who had been successfully accomplishing incredible tasks since the time of Nawab Haider Ali Khan. He was one of the most trusted soldiers of Nawab Sahab and Nawab Sb had once called him his brain. Haider Ali was extremely intelligent who could read a man inside out so his being a traitor is out of question. To my understanding M. Ali's death was a huge conspiracy against Sultan bcoz his death was a huge blow to the power Hz Tipu.

He was brave and was an accomplished general thats a fact, but he was temperamental and very rude with his behaviour to the Young sultan who had just ascended thr throne, and he supported a convicted traitor which led to his own down fall, i feel that after hyder ali he didn't really acknowledge the authority of sultan as his ruler thats why he went against sultan which turned out to be the worst incident and also many other Traitors got an opportunity to rise against sultan telling that he was unjust whereas it was Muhammad Ali himself responsible for his deeds

I don't think he was traitor....Mohd Ali kameendaan was very brave , extremely intelligent and loyal to nawab hyder ali....he fought many wars and his fighting and leadership skills were recognizedby Nawab Hyder ali and tipu sultan himself ....once in a great tragedy event he saved hyder Ali family , Fort and his kingdom when krishna rao ( or might be another hindu traitor who wanted vodair family to dethrone hyder Ali from mysore kingdom ) captured sringapatam fort and nawab hyder ali family and was about to kill them to knee down nawab hyder ali....in this highly sensitive situation Mohd Ali single handly saved Hyder Ali family and Fort and his kingdom...and arrested traitors
