my question is: why all tutorial on beat grid are done on basic house beat that are most of the time really well analysed by traktor……do it on an accoustic reggae or funk song to show the real possibilities of that feature….and the real trouble it is to sync it to traktor.

some of the latest comments on here are hilarious :D .. I DJ'd professionally around the World for over 10 years and we were still using Vinyl for most of them...there was ONLY your ears... that's why most people sucked and why those of us who could beat match really stood out ;)... the tech is now available though and everyone should be using it for their beat matching so they can focus on the mixing.. and coming up with something original for everyone else to enjoy! .. the negative big yourself up comments I read in this thread don't say much for the people writing them... the rest of you, I'm glad this video helped you out :)

+CaptainTheo888 I'm sure all the super great vinyl players also make all of their effects with an analog effect processor using the different cable connections. Or did you guys just turn on the preconfigured effectbuttons on your mixers? The thing is that all vinyl players are just angry that they put so much time in learning perfect beatmatching when now, it is has become a complete a waste of time...

+CaptainTheo888 alo bre, what if track is consistantly droping out of grid marker?? moving grid left and right doesnt help me in the begining track is ok but after a little while its droping out of the grid HELP

+Ben Swinnen ... emmm... perfect beatmatching was not something your had to spend time learning .. it either came naturally and without thought or it didn't... try not to see everything in a negative light... it won't get you anywhere... if you don't understand something then don't speak ;) .. I know I am not angry in any way shape or form.. I love what I can do with digital, it opens up different doors!

+Zoja NS Sounds like your BPM is off.. adjust incrementally as you go through the track and see how it pulls the grid closer or stretches it out

time is progress buddy, wouldn't be good if we stuck to the same old ways that was being done 30 years ago. Personally everytime i hear a vinyl dj go on about digital djs in a negative sense i can't help but find it unbelievably arrogant that they think everyone should do it there way

I think I may speak for many when I say that I was expecting a tutorial on how to beatgrid a track that is a little more organic rhythmically and in need of some tweaking whereas this video simply explains how to verify that a track has been correctly analyzed in the first place. I really like the idea of replacing "Tick" with an actual percussion track. Thanks for your contribution to the art...

Thanks for the great video I am new to traktor. and I kind of have a noob question I saw you were beat matching 126bpm's you say do this to all tracks using that one track as a guide Do you mean only tracks that are 126bpm correct. I ask because I saw another video a person said the same but said to use the higher bpm for all tracks even lower bpm's such as 98 or higher 132 I'm confused I saw the vid 5 times so I know I didn't misunderstand stand the gentleman am I missing something

Even if the beat grids are off and you're playing a song it's not the end of the world, usually they are only a little bit out and you can just turn off sync and beat match it by ear, helps to look at the phase meter while doing it too for a visual representation. But yeah much better to just get them gridded properly in the first place. Thanks for the vid, helped me sorting out my tracks which caught me out at times

also any advise as to how to organize your tracks I have over 3000 and am the type of person who wants to keep all and just let my files grow to make sure I will never be without a track

Great video. For me personally, I DJ at such a variety of parties I could not possibly attempt to go though this for every track (of which I carry approx 40,000). I always make sure my tracks are analysed as a minimum because previous Traktor versions have crashed when analysing tracks (particularly ones with periods of silence in them!) so I am ultra paranoid about that. I find that although Traktor will sometimes place the markers slightly before / after the beat, the BPM calculation itself is usually spot on. So the grid sometimes needs to be shifted but I have never needed to 'stretch' it. (not for electronic or produced music anyway). If anybody started with Vinyl or even CDJs, you will be used to 'nudging' tracks into sync. That's all I do with Traktor. If you press the sync button it will match the BPM, but if you hear in the headphones that the cued track is a tiny bit ahead / behind, then you can just knock the sync button off and use the jog wheel to bring things into sync the old fashioned way. Note, after activating 'sync' on a deck the BPM will be adjusted. If you turn off sync, the BPM will revert back to what it was. To turn sync off and keep the 'matched' BPM you need to play the track first then turn sync off : )
@joaofezasvital9 жыл бұрын
Problem is I don't have jog wheels (I use a midi controlee with only knobs and faders to control the decks and fxs and an external mixer to do the rest) I find it really hard to keep tracks in sync with buttons (I also have cdjs but they don't read usb and I'm tired of burning cds.. Guess I'll sell the whole mixer/midi controller/ audio2dj soundcard set up and just buy a pioneer ddj sb or something like that
@lawlwho12 жыл бұрын
when i try to nudge the outside of my jogwheels to change the tempo of the track, the tempo changes when i turn the jogwheel for that instance but after i stop turning it, it jumps back to its original tempo. is there something in settings to change this so i can nudge the outside of the jogwheel and have the tempo change stay the same?

sounds like a bunch of good Tips :) what I did find out that to Name the Beatmarker as #2 instead of #1 leaves me the Room to set #1 at a Trackintro where No Beat´s going on. #2 is regarding to that always there where the Action starts.

Then you can beat-match all your tracks from it using the same visual method on them followed by an audible check. The video also explains that the most important part is that you beatgrid all your tracks the same way so they they all match each other, therefore even if you somehow made a mistake setting up that first track, you will continue to make the same mistake on all of your tracks and it won't be a mistake because they will all be perfectly beat-matched to one another

@DjCBlaq - If you pay attention to the Video you will see that I say to chose a track that has a very simple kick with percussion, a track where the start of the beat is without question within the waveform that you can zoom in and see clearly, a track where visually you can see there is only ONE place for your beatgrid marker to be exactly at the start of the first beat.

Painstakingly slow process if you're dealing with 50,000+ tracks. Honestly, if the beats are a bit off during a mix, manually put them into sync, that's what the platters on your controller are for! The more you practice, the quicker you'll get those beats into sync.

@vintsent77499 жыл бұрын
+Clare Mc There are a lot of DJ's using sync. Most of the time when they use 4deck mixing combined with other programs like ableton or maschine. There is a lot going on so they use sync on a regular basis.
@Gunt787 жыл бұрын
For the same reason we chose cars over a horse and cart. Technology has continually revolutionised music. Computers democratised and fed into the punk ethic of anyone should be able to make music without having to have the privilege of being able to spend ridiculous amounts of hours mastering some very basic skills in order to express themselves. Computers allow anybody to have an entire orchestra at their finger tips. Why should Djing be any different, its the essence of dance music culture - DIY
@SSJfraz7 жыл бұрын
It's merely for speed and convenience. Some DJ's like to do fast mixes where they'll mash up several tracks in the space of a minute. This wouldn't be possible without the sync feature.

what if the beat grid end up half beat off (sneer), can you set a cue and the grid auto lines up, i also have alot of music and i dont think traktor is not going to allow me to play un beat grid music, dont tell me your going to do beat grid editing in live performances hehehe, it suck i cannot set a cue when no grid lines are aligned on it, i have to go through the process of going to the grid and delete what it auto processed to allow me to set a cue and new grid the developer should allow the dj to set the cue first before the auto feature starts. make cues master in editing, not the other way around, just to set a cue that the software made a wrong grid mark, i have to go to the grid and adjust, not all dj come prepared with the music in that event, someone can give you a music that you can instantly mix and not go through that auto grid just to set a cue point. developer,. make cues master edit, the grid auto grid should follow the set cue point, dj knows better than you software, it can auto grid after the first que has been set or stored, make no sense when the auto grid make a half beat of grid and you have to manually set it lol

Wow I don’t know what this guys doing but 99% of the time if you’re analyzing electronic music tractor gets it just fucking fine. There is no need to zoom in that close and waste your time. All you need to do at most, is reset the very start. Which for some reason it gets a little ahead or behind. Minus a very small percentage of tracks the only thing you’ll need to do is either around the BPM to an even number, as in for some reason it reads 123.02 when it should just be 123 BPM flat.... “It should be noted that sometimes it needs that extra .02 so use ears, kk“ or resetting the very first beat marker.

All mixing software has problems with their beat algorithms. It's not really the fault of the software, but the way some tracks are made. Tracks with double kicks for example can through a beat grid way off. But if you've been DJing with decks, then getting the beats into sync manually will be a piece of cake for you.
