@mellloman since the S4 is a 4 deck controller, you have the ability to route external sources into your setup on decks C and D. deck C can handle either a line input or phono input and you select via a switch on the back of the S4. deck D is a little more flexible. you can still choose a line or phono input but you have the ability to choose whether it plays thru to the PA/main outs or gets routed into your computer via USB. for this input there is a gain knob in the back of the unit.

if you have the s4 kontrol this is a free update...... and the verdict is, its friggin awesome. its gonna re analyze your tracks but its on point 99% of the time anyway.. im in love. the new color waveforms are great. new fx are good. and now theres the drop down menu for fx which was missing in s4... great update.

Finally i can route both decks A & C, B & D to channels 1 & 2 in external mode. No need to have a clunky 4 channel mixer in order to use sample decks! I think i'm in love! Now if i can use internal effects with my mic plugged into my mixer Im about to go HAM!

@sunnyxdj it has key lock. traktor pro has always had it. he didn't cover it because he's only covering new features in t pro 2. It's the little music note next to overview waveform.

@mellloman the Kontrol S4 is a MIDI control surface + Audio 4 DJ card packaged with a special release of Traktor Pro that provides a 4 deck solution. the Kontrol S4 is NOT a hardware mixer. there is an ability to route external devices through the S4 but you cannot mix those external devices using the controls on the S4. the controls on the S4 are for sending MIDI messages to the bundled version of Traktor Pro S4.

@AndyDeJaneiro you can run 4 decks on either Pro 2, the scratch Pro comes with the Scratch Vinyl, and Timecode CDs plus the Audio 6-10.

@errwat you can do that in traktor pro, it's a setting in the preferences, under recording just put "split file at size" to be 2048, so it'll only split it at 2 gigs

@Famous31196 you have to pay for upgrades if you use serato. 4 decks requires new hardware, vj requires a plug in, etcetc.

@Is82odd well I just got the upgrade from the S4 software to the Traktor 2 Software, The thing is, I launched the demo when i got the free download and it had the "platter option" present so I could use it. When I typed in my serial number (activated it), the option for platter went away, and that is literally the only thing that changed from activating it. I don't understand why you would need to upgrade to scratch edition (75 USD) to just add the platter option to the Traktor 2 Program...

I just did the side by side install with traktor for use on my s4 . I noticed that I have lost the top plate function on the jog wheels with Traktor Pro 2. The wheels are on permanent scratch mode . They work normal in the original s4 software though .

Awesome that Traktor 2 can be installed side-by-side with Traktor.. I am curious though, will my preferences also save from Traktor when launching Traktor 2? Like latency, etc... will I need to set that again?

@VVooDz I wouldn't expect Traktor to do it automatically. I would manually color code sections just as I set cue points. I would love to be able color code sections myself, just as Ableton users do.

The concepts are the same across most DJ software. Traktor is a bit difficult to learn at first but well worth understanding. Especially the spectrum wave forms.. You can see when a bass line (RED) is coming or vocal (BLUE-GREEN) begins.

Depends on the speed of your External Hard Drive's connection. If it's USB 2.0, use the internal (laptop) drive. But if you're running USB 3.0, Firewire, Thunderbolt, etc., then you'll be safe with an external HDD.

I have a question...in my original traktor when i clicked on a loop size it snapped to a kick...in traktor 2 it does not. At least default. i like the feature of getting loops more where you want them? Thanks

How can you apply the effects in a MIDI controller?? Do you have to map them before "running" or I can change the effect slots on the go...? I mean like you changed the effect in slot 4, will it be changing in the deck too or I have to map them from the beginning and go along my DJ set with 4 FXs??

@xAlphaxmalex don't have TP2 yet, but hopefully it's the same as in TP1, if you go in the upper left hit the metronome button, and there should be something that says "deck master" make sure it's set to auto.... i think that should do it. you may have to switch the clock master from int to ext or something, but the auto deck master is the main thing

hey there. i'm looking on buying an s4. i saw it has phono inputs. is it possible to use those inputs with a turntable and use the s4 as the mixer and record in the loop recorder. i haven't seen anyone actually sampling external sound in traktor with the s4. thanks a lot

Can someone please do a video walk through from start finish on how to set up an external mixer and turntables to the audio 6 for pc in English and how to set up the software traktor scratch pro 2 so that both turntables are fully functional and working. As well give a brief description on how to get started loading up songs to each turntable and how to navigate through the music library and transferring my iTunes music to the traktor scratch pro 2 software. i would start with a free trial of virtual dj. thats how i started. just messing around with virtual dj free version, its not that bad either u can still play full sets with effects and everything. but it depends on how much you know about general djing

Add the songs to collection and then use the Traktor analysis function- this will show the BPM and Key of each song

Can you use Traktor Pro 2 with 4 Traktor decks but with just two CDJ's? I guess I'm just really confused on what time coding is exactly. I want to use my audio 8 soundcard, have 4 traktor decks loaded (if I'd like) but use 2/3 CDJ's as controllers. I'm not sure if I should upgrade to Traktor Pro 2 (from traktor pro) or get Traktor Scratch pro. I use traktor pro 2 and have a numark mix deck you have solved a few of my issues with this video but I was wondering how I can use my effects on both decks because it only lets me play effects on the left deck and as I'm transitioning the effect carries over to the right side and I do not want that! Now I downloaded Traktor Pro 2 v2.5 and before I install it it says "A newer version of this software has been found.Do you really want to downgrade your software? " Should I do it? Platter/scope is not a selectable option with my order of tp2 , Am I missing something ? Select the sample tab and enjoy a 30 second graphic freeze , Select pitch lock and get a audio crash Other than that this is very stable and I enjoy using it

"could not initialize traktor. probably another instance is running" I get this error all the time, the program opens fine (once) but only if its the first time I click on it since I restarted or turned on my laptop, the program will not open if I have already opened it but closed it and tried opening it again!

Question...... why doesn't the Traktor Pro2 have the same beatmasher effect as it did before. I use the Kontrol x1 and use to do some amazing things with it. I now longer have that feature. it kinda sucks now. is there a way to re access those features. ( it kinda gave you some serious beat juggling capabilites)
