Cabview 🚋 Gent T2 Melle Leeuw - Evergem Brielken (Tram Driver's POV)

NL: Sinds 6 januari 2024 hebben de trams in Gent nieuwe routes.
Deze video toont tram T2 van Melle Leeuw naar Evergem Brielken.
Deze route volgt deels de oude lijnen 2 van Melle naar Zuid, 4 van Zuid naar Korenmarkt, en 1 van Korenmarkt naar Evergem. Het is de langste en meest diverse tramlijn van Gent!
Bijna alle soorten tramtrajecten, behalve een pre-metro, zijn te vinden op deze route. De tram rijdt over veel eigen beddingen, door het stadscentrum, door woonwijken als een soort "light rail" en verbindt het zuiden met het noorden van de stad. Het is ook de enige tramlijn die niet bij Sint-Pietersstation stopt. Voor de grote veranderingen deden alle tramlijnen het station aan.

This video shows tram T2 from Melle Leeuw to Evergem Brielken.
This route partially follows the old lines 2 from Melle to Zuid, 4 from Zuid to Korenmarkt, and 1 from Korenmarkt to Evergem. It is the longest and most diverse tram line in Ghent!
Almost every type of tram route, except for going underground, can be found on this line. The tram travels on many dedicated tracks, through the city center, through residential areas as a sort of light rail, and connects the south with the north of the city. It is also the only tram line that does not stop at Sint-Pietersstation. Before the major changes, all tram lines went to this station.

I feel sometimes the ground moving when a tram passes

That is normal. A tram weighs 39 to 50 tons on it's own and with a few hundred passengers added, it's normal that you feel the ground moving.

Idk if rails get refreshed if a tram would explode on the rails.

It was a old tram of the 150 Ghent year de lijn festival

@@montybe2419 that was a short circuit on the roof of the tram with a big flame as a result but not an explosion and the rails where not damaged.

Very interesting video !! As far I can remember ran only each second tram on line 1 to Evergem because of the 7/8 and 5 minutes interval, line 2 runs normally every ten minutes and all courses go to Evergem ? By the way, there is a strange bridge over the Verbindingskanal, it seems to be part of a new tram track between Wondelgem and tram stop Sint Lucas. Do you know anything about this obviously new built Gaardeniersbrug? Thom

@@FeetThom Correct! Alternately, one drives to Evergem and the other to Wondelgem. In the evening and till the last tram, all drive to Evergem. The bridge you are referring to is a tram bridge for the new depot they're trying to build. It should have been completed in 2009 but the site was heavily polluted and they argued who should do the cleanup. The city of Ghent refused, the previous factory didn't exist anymore and De Lijn refused to so it took a long time till they agreed to do so. Then it layed still due to contracts and permits that had to be handled. In the meantime a little "park" has formed and now the residents of the area want to keep it that way so they are now protesting against the build of the new depot. When I have a shift after the 19th on the T4, I will film it as I would drive past that bridge.

@@MrTramdriverGhent Ok, thank's for your reply. I've watched both vids of T2, but my impression is that the tracks between Van Beverenplein and Evergem need urgently a refreshing..... and lastly more passengers.

@@FeetThomthere are works planned that start in september for the part between Van Beverenplein and Kolegemstraat. They are really the worst at the moment. It has a speed limit of 10km/h. If I would drive double that, the passengers and I would become seasick 😅 And normally it has more passengers on that part but it's vacation now so it's less busy.
