I'm Bosnian and I actually live in Sarajevo right now (I'm originally from up in the north but moved here cuz college) and let me tell you, these trams are a joy to ride. These were the same trams my mom used 40 years ago when she was in college! That's how long they've been in operation. Also btw the dead tram place is called "Remiza". Another thing about the "run down" nature of such places. In most cases either we can't afford anything new, and the newer trams and busses are donations, or we simply don't need anything better.

In Gothenburg (Sweden), despite having humid and salty weather (corrosive environment), we still run 51 wagons built 1969-1972. They will be retired in 2026. I think Sarajevo could have figured out a way of better maintaining old Czechoslovak hardware, but its also about time to invest in something new, like the excellent Stadler wagons.

Sarajevo is a cool place to visit. Great coffee and cakes, I was there in January. There seemed to be a tram graveyard next to the road to the Airport, maybe a depot where they were cannibalising the old stock to keep some running. The reason the main station seems abandoned is that when Bosnia was a part of Yugoslavia there would have been trains running to Belgrade, Zagreb etc etc. but now it is only serving the Bosnian destinations there is less of a need for a huge station.

I’m still convinced that you are going to hit 50k subscribers very soon. Some of those trams are very nice and are in good condition.

It took us 40 years to get the modern trams when everyone else got them that early. 40 F*CKING YEARS! 😭😭😭

7:10 This sort of resemble the Z class trams from Melbourne Australia that were first introduced in the early 1970s.

We actually did modify some of the trams to be newer and modern. The Satra II and III are from what I've heard, Bosnian modifications of Czechian trams!

6:52 that's an Ex Vienna siemnes E1 tram, they used to run on route 4 but it's a shame that they've been withdrawn, i'm honestly surprised that the newer Satra trams(the ones at 7:02) have been withdrawn, i thought they would stay to run alongside the stadler trams, but here we are, anyway if you are ever in the area, you could do a video on the trams of Belgrade Serbia, we've got about 5 different types of trams, new CAF urbos 3 trams, as well as some old Duwag trams from Basel, and about three different verities of Tatra KT4D trams, i would also recommend riding them from the Belgrade fair to Sava square, as well as the New Belgrade district, as that's where they go a little faster.

I don't think the Satra tram was withdrawn. Judging by the photo, it looks more like the tram was never built.

The DÜWAG-Trams came from Cologne, I believe. The famous GT8-type.

would you consider going to uzhhorod and mukachevo in ukraine, uzhhorod is right on the border with slovakia so you can go on a bus from slovakia to uzhhorod and its safe to go there

I have been looking into that. I am a bit confused how to do the Chop border crossing, and what are the queues like there?
@DavidSmith-yo7vd
@DavidSmith-yo7vd 4 ай бұрын
@benolifts the queues are shorter than before as less people are entering and leaving than 2022 and 2023

3:15 The new trams reminds me pretty much of a Polish tram (like for example the Moderus Gamma trams of Wrocław and the Pesa Twist trams of Craiova, Romania, the white interior and the blue seats just screams Wroclaw to me). But the bogie formation reminds me more of the new Stadler Tina ST15 trams in my German hometown of Darmstadt.

You should really come to see Helsinki, Finland. I know we’re a quite expensive destination but in the Helsinki metro we have the first series production VVVF metro trains in the world :-). The sound is very charming. Strömberg of Finland had a section of electrical engineers known as ”the hooligan department” for their crazy ideas at the time. The guys there made cutting edge VVVF technology in the late 1970s and thought lol why not put it on a train, without any maturity of this technology. And it works reliably to this day. I bet a lot of them were fellow aspies…
