Hi mate, I have to say congrats for this video, it is absolutely amazing. However, I would like to ask how you can decide, for the bassline, that a sound is a bass sound when it has frequencies in the mid, low-mid, and higher parts of the spectrum? what does it make it a bass sound? for example, BassLayer #4, when you eq-ed it you just cut all the frequencies below low-mids. how is that a bass-layer? :-? Thank you for your time.

i use abelton as well as fl and iv noticed that the sound seems diffrent to the ear do to the master chanels out put and the reverb flow in fl studio if you have any waves plugins with verb h-verd and transx, or s-1 imager and mix with the utility in abelton u can can get the same sounds, just gotta spend some time to tweak

Nice vid :) I always struggle with the lengh of kicks do you hsvd any tips at all ? Cheers
@MaxBraiman2 жыл бұрын
The length of your kick depends entirely on your bassline, for dance music its going to be 1 kick per beat, 4 kicks per bar. Typically a kicks low end tail will stop somewhere halfway through the beat so that the lowend of your bassline can have space to breathe. If your kicks tail bleeds into the second half of the beat, the sidechain of your bassline should be longer to carve out space for that kick tail, honestly it sounds better to have a shorter kick and let your bassline live in the 2nd half of the beat. All you have to do is find a song that you think has nice kick/bass mix and put it into your DAW, cut out all the highs from that song up to around 100hz so all you hear is the bass portion of the kick/bassline. Download s(m)exoscope for free and look at how the lows breathe visually and just replicate that in your song. You can also take a shitty song and look at how the kick/bass conflict, phase, lose rhythm etc. You want a clean pumping effect where the kicks low end is louder than the bassline lowend, you will see when you analyze songs that sound clean and punchy in the low end. As you go up in the frequency spectrum its easier to layer sounds and use less sidechain, mid/high bassline layers wont conflict so its easier to mix but you still have to carve out a little space for the kicks transient. The lows are very sensitive to phase cancelation and muddiness in general so spend the most time mixing that area.

take it using the EQ in the mixer channels save you on CPU

Hey, max! I bought your pack from FSS (trance midi essentials vol 1). I've always been intrigued by your gallops (1/16th rolling basslines offbeat). I understand the techiques to make them really hard on Spire (pitch envelope with very short decay, distortion, compression, EQ, delay). Could you make a video or a small segment for an example in which the rollin' bassline is the most prominent element in the track? I mean really gallopy, like horse gallopin' in your face bass your face might break kind of gallopy. Ex : John O'Callaghan & Bryan Kearney - Exactly soundcloud.com/skylandtrance/team140

I spend hours carefully following this tutorial and still cannot make it sounds like you do. I am using Ableton Live and since it should not matter, I still don't get the results I would like. I probably going to just buy Fruity Loops, see if there is any difference. Even with the first section with sub bass, your Spire sounds much more full with same knobs, faders, etc on the same place. This is really frustrating. But anyway, thank you for doing this.
@MaxBraiman9 жыл бұрын
ive noticed this in ableton and logic aswell, the same preset in spire sounds different.

Some errors with the sidechain limiter, but consider me subbed =)
@MaxBraiman9 жыл бұрын
Can you be more specific, which errors?
@MaxBraiman9 жыл бұрын
Ok I understand now, the Limiter has a 2ms attack by default, I thought by switching over to the compressor tab it would ignore the limiter tab but I just checked and it dosent. Thanks for the heads up

Correct, Limiter part works in serial =)

I can not imagine myself trying to catch your mouse pointer 55m55s to the end, so I hit the stop button at 4:07. Why it's fast forward ? The title says "tutorial". Calm down man!
@MaxBraiman9 жыл бұрын
The title says studio session, it is me producing in real time, it can be a tutorial for others but its not a slow step by step one. The tutorial would also be 2x longer, meaning 2x the file size and render time, this laptop I am on starts to bug out.
