The whole reason I became a chiller mechanic was hearing a large chiller transition wye to delta. I was a young hvac tech at the time and went right over to the tech working on it and asked HOW DO I LEARN TO GET TO BE A CHILLER MECHANIC? He said we are hiring as I started converting all the old r-11 machines to r-123. 16 years later I still love that sound.

Since it’s water only and not glycol, about 38 degrees F.

No VFD on this one?? Looks like a pretty new chiller for it to not have a VFD. That or a very well kept chiller with an upgraded control system.

VFD’s are optional on Trane CenTraVac chillers. This plant has 4 chillers, 2 with VFD’s and 2 without.
