Original Trangia Made in Sweden
A beautiful fall day at the lake Storsjön in Jämtland. We brought our Trangia stove to cook our lunch. This is what you need:
- Thin slices of elk
- Lingonberry
- Yellow and red peppers
- Cream
- Served with cous cous and a cold beer

My Trangia is around 30 years old now. It's was given to me after my uncles death. I cleaned it. And now I use it probably for another 30 years. Thanks Erhardt and conny. I'll always remember and miss you.

I have a problem with the "make sure burner is empty" bit~ If you let your Trangia stove burn out, it causes stress on the brass & it cracks. Snuff it when you're done, let it cool, then put the cap back on. It's a liquid-tight seal. Save the alcohol in the burner & refill as needed. Don't worry about burning the left-over fuel. Doing so is not good for the burner in the first place. I don't know why Trangia doesn't tell the consumer that, but those are the facts ;)

I dug out my Trangia after maybe 15 years since last use. Still had fuel on and it hadn't leaked. Enjoyed a nice cup of tea and a nice chicken, veg and pasta meal in a bier sauce by the lake.

Best stoves in the world - a proper storm-cooker. Been using since 1977 & got my first in '78 & last used that one this morning on a windy camp up Tan Hill. Will brew up in no time when it's blowing a hoolie - before most folks can get a white gas protected & going in wild conditions. Outside of that, in still conditions, it may not be the fastest but it's a Zen thing - what's the hurry! & don't get me started about the soot. If you get upset by soot - MAN UP! Glad to see these are getting more popular in the USA where they used to be slated for being too slow - glad to see US backpackers are kicking back & chilling & appreciating these outfits. The reason I'm called 'spiritburner' is from my early forays onto US backpacker forums in the 1990's defending the honour of this excellent bit of kit. If you need big snow-melting capacity get a multi-fuel burner & adapter & use paraffin/kerosene. If you want sublime find the old Swedish KAP Arctic conversion but good luck with that search! Message to Trangia - bring back Duossal!

what are the best fuels and methods to reduce the "Black" ??
@rossmellows2634
@rossmellows2634 10 жыл бұрын
carforumwanker Denatured alcohol - basically ethanol with about 10% methanol to render it undrinkable. Methanol on it's own doesn't give the same output. Some folk recommend adding 10% water to reduce the soot. It helps but also lowers the output of the fuel. My opinion is that it's better just to learn to live with the soot. If you really can't bare dirty hands gear get the Jetboil or stay indoors! ;0)

High-methanol fuels, e.g. SLX or others, seem to give less carbon, though they also give less ‘fire’, too. In a pinch, you might add some yellow-bottle Heet to improve matters. 99% isopropyl would be awful for black stuff.

I get it. I'm presently on holiday with my Trangia 27 as one of my cooking options. It's brilliant. I took my Svea 123 but it's not really needed. My cooking is pretty basic and the simmer ring is awesome. In the last three days I've prepared shellfish, meat and vegetables all on the 27. Can't see myself going back to canister gas or white gas. Will always love my 123 though.

My Trangia I believe is from the 70's as it was my Mum's. No Non-Stick frying pan luxury for me! I also have the clasp on top as that's where the kinks in the strap allow it to be. I store the meths in the container when using the stove, no point wasting fuel if you're using it again in a short while. On the last time of using it in a trip I'll burn it off but only then. The stove itself is a great little container and still going strong after all these years

I bought my trangia 27 way back in 1984 and it still works. I did mod the strap so it clipped behind my kayak seat. By todays standards it's so heavy but, kayak camping it was ideal. Sadly, the kayak is long gone :/

People say to me 'they're so big and bulky' but I show them mine and I have everything I need to cook with in it- the Trangia's two pots, fry pan and grip, burner full of fuel, bombproof stable base and windshield, 300ml fuel, 2x cutlery sets, pot scrubber, fire steel, matches, all in one contained unit held together with a strap, not gear scattered in multiple bags or containers to keep track of. And some say they are so slow but I think all the noise of the gas cookers gives the illusion that things are happening quicker. Really the difference is negligible and most times there is no big hurry anyway. Weight wise, if you want to go ultra light there are options if you have a think and go through their range- my gf has a very light and cute little mini setup she uses in conjunction with a rolled up titanium foil heat shield. As well there are no jets to gum up or part empty gas containers to use up from the last trip and try to guess how many containers I'll need, or horrendously unstable cooking platforms to risk tumbling hot liquids over on people, no mickey mouse wind shields to erect and try and keep in place, and no military grade jet engine roar to be deafened by while cooking that we have to yell over. Just silence and the joy of using something so simple and durable that with a little care it will last a lifetime, and made by a company that has been around for decades and will likely be around for many more decades, which means spares will be available if needed. Sigh, I love my Trangia's.

Agree with you both, a complete cook system in a bag. My sleeping bag weighs more than my Trangia 27 cooking system and I carry 2 burners. One in with my kit and another in my pocket to boil on the trail for hot drinks. Weight whiners are just lazy wimps that don't want to cook real food and are happy with boil-in-the-bag slop.

I'm a U.S. outdoorsman and love my Trangia. I do find it a bit on the large size...or perhaps my rucksack is a little small... nonetheless it works really well and has been a good piece of gear. The preheater is a must when cold out, i try and keep the meals on the simple, i will never be a "chef" but have made some really fun meals. I find for the cost of the stoves and what they can do, they are hard to beat, with that said, everything has it's limitations. I also find that there is a relaxed comfort when using this stove. I'm not certain it's a "zen" thing, but it will have to do until zen comes along...

I have the Trangia Triangle and the mini Trangia, some army trangias and others too. Which one I am using depends on what I am out doing and what I want to eat. But for longer hikes I usually take the Trangia 27. In my view it is worth its weight. I have adapted the old one for both gas and multifuel burners.

Love Trangias. I have several. I enjoyed the vid. However the backing track and piano noodling were not good. I'm not sure why people feel it's necessary to use background music so much, particularly during outdoors videos. Hard to beat the sounds of nature. Wow, did I miss it, or did you go through this whole production, and not show how to extinguish it? I mean you included the simmer ring, even though it was totally open, and didn’t demonstrate how it works, but try and putting it out, while already using the ring. For someone who is totally new, it’s not that easy. Also the impression that you made lunch for 3, on one fill up is pretty much a lie. I love both my regular one , and military versions, but there was some bull in this where it didn’t need to be.

I really liked my Trangia - but always had problems with the regulator. It was quite tight and difficult to turn and if it was put on the burner, the burner had a tendency to turn with it. I wonder, if you ever get the point to make the burner and simmer ring rectangular or ellipsoid or whatever - but please: not perfectly round!

@jonathantan2469
@jonathantan2469 6 жыл бұрын
1) It's the same coating used on nonstick pans. 2) Put the simmer cap with the sliding door over the burner. Close the sliding door to cut off the flame. Just remember to never use the cap with the rubber seal on it to extinguish the fire. The heat will destroy the seal. A mistake that many Trangia owners make. My local outdoors shops sell replacement caps for this reason.

It's the seize of the cook set used as the 27 is for 2 people on a diet and the 25 is for 4 people on a diet so my option is to get the 25 like I did and enjoy your scrumptious meals and burn off the fat carrying it in your backpack like me 😉👍

Wrong! With the pan it does not work well, because only the pan has a too large distance from the flame! (Diffrent to the pots) Thats why the pan buttom is the totally black und full of soot!! In the video he hast not shown that he might clean the pan from the extremely dirt before backpacking it!! When frying with the pan you must put the burner higher before!
