@@leahcantwell5185I respect that. I think that when progressives get it wrong (and they don’t always - I’m not trying to group you) it’s often because they have good intentions but don’t know when to say enough is enough. They find a direction but not a destination and inevitably end with extremism, having progressed right past the sweet spot between of idealism and pragmatism (a both high-minded and stable/achievable goal) and begin advocating for unreasonable or unachievable extremes. Being able to say “that’s enough” and “the only way to continue in this direction is to violate my OWN principles” might be what sets you apart from that group. And certainly the same criticisms need to be leveled at the conservatives as well so we don’t have the opposite problem when the pendulum inevitably swings back.

I just believe in attacking the problem behind the belief. Why has this person come to this conclusion? This involves years of therapy. If, as an adult, this conclusion is still the only conclusion in order to live a peaceful life, havevat it. It is when a certain ideology and a known non fact, is pushed on others and their children, that is my issue. It is hard to demand acceptance from others, when the person could not accept themselves to begin with. I have no hate, just reality.

So I can only advocate for something which impacts me specifically in a specific way, but cannot advocate against a specific thing if it impacts me in a different specific way even if it harms me? Who decides what specific thing is acceptable and what is not? On what basis? How are they not tyrants for demanding conformity in such an underhanded way? It sounds insane and I suspect it is designed to promote insanity. Therefore I expect this to get much, much worse before any of it gets better - if society even can recover that is.

but if i dyed my hair blonde, then I'd be "identifying" as a blonde. it would, at that point, become part of my identity. @Vidya740

@@barbrothers2 That's a completely different scenario. You're talking about cosmetic alterations to your appearance, not your identity. Your identity consists of factual particulars about yourself. If you were asked to identify yourself, would you say, "I identify as a blonde"? You might say, "I'm a blonde Caucasian woman", in which case, you would be lying. But that aside, "identifying yourself", is different from saying, "I identify as...". You can't "identify" as anything. You're either that thing, or you aren't.

@@Vidya740 Nah, she said what I said in a different way. You absolutely can identify yourself, and your identity can change. Identity isn't set in stone. And blonde is a factual particular. And if your hair is dyed, are you lying by describing it as such? If I dye my hair purple, is it lying to say I'm a purple haired Caucasian? Everyone else would call me that. Your blanket statement has a lot of holes and needs revision. Perhaps gender and sex exist outside of identity? No matter what you identify as your sex is beyond identity?
