Parent and psychologist here; the way I see puberty blockers (which should not be used in children over the age of 8 and are now hardly being used for precoz puberty in girls due to being linked to osteoporosis and other health issues) or HRT in children is that no parent, doctor or person should facilitate a lifelong optional decision for a child who may change their mind. If my daughter asks for a hysterectomy at age 12 because she wants to be childfree, no clinician would do that for obvious reasons. I would definitely support her once she is of age to make that permanent decision and understands all of the medical risks and consequences that it entails. Giving a child puberty blockers and HRT is choosing to sterilise them (irreversible infertility), to medicalise them for life (with the chance they may change their mind once their prefrontal cortex is fully formed) AND for most cases you are also choosing a sexless life for them as anecdotally many people who have transitioned during childhood note they are unable to feel any sexual pleasure at all due to the lack of development in their sexual organs. Additionally, if it is a Male-to-Female transition, the phallus/penis is not fully formed, so future surgery is also compromised. It's an ethical issue overall and a decision only an adult by their own volition/consent should make. I haven't even touched upon the huge ethical issues that affirming care also brings as it encourages people down this pathway without considering other factors to gender dysphoria (i.e., trauma, sexual prefence, abuse, comorbidity of other psychiatric disorders, personality disorders, neurodivergency etc). A child being permanently altered irreversibly with often brutal consequences should not have an hour or two as a rudimentary evaluation.

Just from physical side effects from taking hormones, kids should not be allowed to take them. I have extremely serious osteoporosis due to very early menopause. Maybe better therapy and other methods until someone is old enough to know who and what they are, then take hormones.

That doesn't make a person the opposite sex. I am a small bio female. Some days I am all fluff and pink and sweet things. That day I might cry, but I might also have to step up and tell some big hairy pushy rude guy to get off my property and to get F'd in no uncertain terms. I might even shoot my gun- over their head...dies that bake me a guy in a dress at that point? No. I don't think so. Other days I look like a guy. Not trying. I am just also very masculine. Jazz Jennings is a great example of why puberty blockers are terrible. They don’t just “pause puberty” - you need puberty to develop into an adult - they sterilise children and if rhey are blocked pre-puberty they won’t develop any sexual attraction sexuality etc as adults which is important. Particularly with boys who want to transition into women it makes the surgery difficult as they don’t develop sufficient penile tissue to have a successful v-plasty

@desertcat41937 ай бұрын
You are so mindful and kind, even when so reasonably shocked or annoyed! Back in the day, I never thought much about it when a trans woman came into a public restroom or a gym locker room because it always seemed they were truly trying to "pass" and just live their lives. But in the last 3 years I and my friends have been confronted 6-7 times by very assertive and sometimes aggressive trans women in these spaces. To me, overly assertive or attention seeking behavior by trans women in women's spaces is the opposite of what healthy women do, and we are not TERFS for saying so.
@Se_Nyx7 ай бұрын
First paragraph, yep agree with you there. Obviously I can't speak for the bathroom, but generally that is my impression - that there are aggressive people out there claiming to be transwomen but not doing anything to transition, or modify their aggressive, stereotypically male, behaviour. Also having weird ideas about what makes a woman - I don't know because I'm not one. I also find an awful lot of the new crop started out as straight men with no gender dysphoria, which makes me wonder why they decided to become transwomen. My personal belief is that they are self obsessed, with a narcissistic belief that no-one should ever be allowed to say no. And they will say they are trans lesbians, because their sexuality doesn't change. Its like a new fad for young people - something for them to do. Especially young men who think the world is mistreating them and that women have all the rights now. That's what they are probably doing - trying to get special rights, so they can be above everyone else (which is a narcissistic belief). If I was to go down the trans route then as a gay man then it would, in theory, make me straight. I just look at this way: a straight man who controls so much of the world tells me he is going to be a trans woman. I ask him why he is giving up all of his privileges and rights, especially if he doesn't experience gender dysphoria and is only attracted to women. What would he say? That sometimes the women say no? That he would like extra rights that apply only to him, because in his mind he would not lose any rights, because he would aggressively demand them his existing ones, and get extra that means people will have to treat him with the respect he (believes he is) deserves, and that he will have a choice of sexual partners, because otherwise they will be arrested. Is this not how narcissistic thought goes - "I'm special and should be treated as such".

To qualify I had to have twice monthly blood tests to check my testosterone levels. For 6 months. Every test showed that my body quit producing testosterone. Then I had to drive 80 miles away to see a specialist. On the first visit blood test was taken to check my testosterone levels. I went back 2 months later. The specialist said that I needed to take testosterone. Three months later my strength improved and my other problems started to go away. Now I have to have my blood tested every month to make sure I’m taking it. It is disgusting that children can get an unlimited supply without proof that it’s medically necessary. The activists are truly doing much more damage to the community than they are helping. I like to also keep reminding people that a lot of their ideology is homophobic as well, and insidiously some of the most homophobic ideas the LGBT community in the US has faced in recent years. The whole idea of “genital preference” inherently erases the work that gay, lesbian, and bi people have done to show the world we were born this way and that sexual orientation is not a choice. It picks up where the conservative religious folks left off. In fact, I’d say I’ve heard more homophobic ideas come from the mouth of woke activists than from very religious people in recent years, and that is a problem.

I believe trans is real and that treatment is required in some cases. But I also would love for us all to stop having to pretend to not see male aggression coming from supposed trans women. Being a woman that has been on the receiving end of male aggression/violence, I feel like the difference between real trans women and people co opting the name … is people that are feminine in their soul. This is a very, very disturbed young person who clearly has some serious underlying mh issues, aside from the identity thing. The way they jump feet first on a new bandwagon every couple of weeks (or even days) is really quite alarming and the anger/rage that's bubbling right at the surface all the time, is increasing in each video. Of course, their constant social justice tirades are infuriating and rarely make any sense to the average person, but unlike some of the others who you can clearly see are vulnerable kids with malleable minds who've been brainwashed, this person exudes a much darker, dare I say, dangerous energy than most. Alexis, I want to "call out" how compassionate you are with these people! You are such an amazing person to be so caring for ALL people! I've often thought (I'm not trans) about how ill these people might be in reality, what might be going on inside them from a psychological perspective, how much unhappiness they will experience as they age. Thank you so much for sharing your own concern! Feeding into their illnesses, affirming their psychosis, normalizing this behaviour, or the other side of attacking and demeaning - you shine a light on all of it! Personally, I've always thought we each have to do our own work; healing comes from inside, not from outside. And, Alexis, you have been an inspiration for me and a role model for ... everyone! your community, my community, humanity. Thank you!! Your concern for fertility is also so beautiful! I have recently read a lot about how our birth rate is declining. There is serious concern in many nations at what will happen in 20-50 years if we continue to experience the decline we have been having in the past 20-30 years and we no longer replace (and care for) our population now. Those stats are coming from "normal" reasons people don't have children - they do not include those who are capable of healthily continuing our species but removing their created purpose for our collective future. What happens when we lose so many people who, when they're young, remove their ability to repopulate, and then realize after that they have helped contribute to a very ugly situation? I think it's so much better when someone is diagnosed and goes through medical transitioning once they've hit at least 25 (aka the time the brain becomes fully mature). Thank you for all you share and contribute to our collective human world! (A personal note: many years ago I had 2 very serious pulmonary emboli and when I went through the tests to find out why, it was discovered that I will never be able to take hormones when I hit menopause. It will likely kill me. So, your comments on "HRT is for everyone" hits the nail on the head in more ways than you realize! It is not only for people who truly suffer from diagnosed gender dysphoria and not anyone, as well as for women in menopause, is something I can completely get behind. It's important to note that women need to be careful because it could lead to death. The hormones in the medication are similar to the hormones in birth control and they think that might have caused my PEs. If it's dangerous for me, I wonder what we will discover 20-30 years down the road if everyone who wants to are taking HRT now! It took a few years after starting oral birth control for me to have my first PE. And then about 8-10 years after, the second.)

It's also very different for females than males. Females are having a major trans trend now, and it makes sense because many females have experiences that they mistake for gender issues as kids/teens. And going on T causes majorly irreversible changes, and has extreme health risks for Females, including atrophy of their female parts. And it makes no difference if a 16, 18 25 year old go on T. The changes are the same within that range. There's no reason to put this many confused autistic girls on T as teens. I had gender confusion as a teen, both of my daughters have, nearly all of their friends have.

As long as you’re not making your life someone else’s problem, pushing your beliefs on others, and aren’t hurting other people with your lifestyle? Most people usually have the attitude of “live, and let live.” So long as you give the same curtesy back, do whatever makes you happier. I think some of these people genuinely need mental help, and unfortunately we live in a time where I can’t tell what’s real, and what’s satire. The comversation around puberty blockers feels like its very different now than it would have been 10+ years ago. Anyone who did transition at the tween phase probably had a better guarentee of be "successful". Parents and children had to go a little more out of their way to learn these things, and when you are forced to do x amount of research, probably had more long term conversations with doctors, probably more likely to have at least a little therapy in there, things feel much more solid in the decisions being made. But now with how easy access ALL trans info/opinions are, how aggressively gender affirming care is pushed etc. it also feels like that success rate is gunna go down and see an increase of young adult detransitions. Now if your kid hops on tiktok and says they feel a little weird about puberty, you go to the doctor and theyll tell you they need this and that. Vs 10 years ago you were forced into thinking about it a little more and had to face the long term consequences more readily. People want to skip nuance and the hard or uncomfortable thinking nowadays.

Thank you for addressing how casually HRT and Transgender are being treated. Medications in general are being treated ridiculously casually when so many of them have such massive side effects. HRT is a life-changing and permanent thing. It absolutely should be limited to those who need it for health and safety reasons. Trans represents a small fraction of society and is not the only reason that people go on HRT. There are dozens of other conditions that also use forms of HRT. HRT is also not necessarily a cure all for all Trans just as the various gender reassignment surgeries are not. That being said, it is best to have the diagnosis, the counselling and the knowledge to make the best decision for yourself. Don't just go off what some influencer said because many people are misdiagnosing themselves and the results can be devastating.

I am a woman who has been pregnant AND lost my babies. Halfway through gestation too, meaning I had to actually give birth to my twin sons with the understanding they were not going to live. I gave birth to and lost both of my sons in half a day. I find it deeply upsetting, maybe even offensive, to watch a *man* cry and fuss about how the ObGyn wouldn’t give HIM an ultrasound because he’s “pregnant”. And then he has the gall to claim he “lost” a pregnancy?? The closest a man will ever get to understanding the pure pain and despair of losing the humans you literally grew from scratch, is having a wife who loses a baby. A man could not even begin to grasp what it’s like to be pregnant, to have a life inside you and to be able to feel that life growing and moving inside you, a life (or multiple in my case) that you loved and wanted with your whole heart, let alone grasp how it feels to have to have that life and love torn from you . I would have given my own life in that moment if it meant my boys would live, and honestly I nearly died delivering them because of the amount of blood I lost. Even women can’t completely grasp it until they’ve experienced it.

I think the first one was satire/skit for clicks and likes, which is still despicable. It's flat out mockery, not humor. I don't think they are actually in a hospital, nor do I believe they are actually trans. Purely fictional for attention. If not, then they need to be in a mental hospital. I agree with you, I never thought I'd live in a world where people act out and exhibit the WORST behavior possible, and people "like" them for that!! And in cases like Dylan Mulvaney, become MILLIONAIRES for that bad and unacceptable behavior!! Boggles my mind! And these extreme people sure like to throw around the "G" word don't they? It's as if they don't really even understand what it REALLY is. It's not merely just "cancelling" someone on social media...it's so much darker and evil than that, and they're throwing it around and overusing it like they do with all the "phobe" and "ist" words they used to spread their hate. And how ironic and hypocritical of them to accuse and say "Your comfort is not a priority here," but of course THEIRS is?!

My daughter went through precocious puberty. She started showing signs of puberty at I would say 4... hair, breastbuds the works. I took her to our children's hospital in my state and they suggested puberty blockers. Thank God when her bone scan came back that changed their tune. I eventually got told she just produces more testosterone. We never got the puberty blockers. And she "became a woman" this year at 10... so, it wasn't even precocious puberty in the first place.
@ladabingo79127 ай бұрын
My understanding is puberty blockers don’t just delay physical development, they delay emotional and psychological development as well. I’ve heard puberty described as an orchestra of hormones from which a complex transformation happens. The outcome is an adult human being in every sense. I cannot see how such a delay via puberty blockers can be healthy and especially if this is instead of psychological support. Puberty is when we learn who we are as people in the fullest sense of the word, not just our genders. It would also separate a child or young person even more from their peer group. I find it so sad that we have come to this being how we go about things. It is like a caterpillar delaying the onset of becoming a butterfly before knowing what being a butterfly is all about. Just my view.
@JBSRCS7 ай бұрын
You are correct. Blocking puberty doesn’t just stop adult male and female physical characteristics from developing. It blocks everything…. physical, mental, emotional, social and sexual… from fully developing. Blocking puberty stops a child from developing into a fully functional adult. And yes, I know what I’m talking about. My degrees are in human development. I’ve studied this complex subject for more than 35 years. We need to protect our children and allow them to develop as they are intended. Then, as an adult, they can make their own very personal choices about their lives and bodies.

Keep sharing your views and experiences, it's needed. I like that you touched on the teen brain and how it is constantly changing. Studies have shown that the brain is not fully mature until the age of 25! So the idea of someone making permanent changes to their body before their brain is fully finished developing is a bit frightening. I am a Mum and puberty is hard for everyone, regardless, and I think teens need more support through it all in general. Though I think teens have a right to identify as trans or non-binary, I don't think they have the ability to make such a life impacting decision like hormone replacement. If you are a trans teen I think you should have access to professionals and therapists who specialise in gender dysphoria, you should be allowed and supported to live and present yourself as your chosen ( I hate using the term chosen because I don't think it is a chosem, but that's besides the point ) gender, but I would not allow hormone replacement until the individual was 23, 24, 25. I know a few places you have to have lived as your chosen gender for a certain amount of time before you can get hormone replacement and I think that is right. I think having a structure program like that would also stop criticism about Trans being a trend and it would hopefully minimise the few people who have transitioned and not been happy with the outcome and wanted to transition back. This is why I love you, though we disagree on things you bring about conversation, you bring about debate and critical thinking, when so many others seem only interested in bringing about division and spreading hate. Keep it up.

Like HRT, there are multiple reasons doctors prescribe puberty blockers, not all of which have anything to do with gender reconciliation. Only now is it considered an issue (because people oppose transgender healthcare).
@shelleybeek21817 ай бұрын
The other reasons do not result in sterility. For men fighting prostate cancer Lupron is preferable to dying even if it does cause sexual dysfunction but kids are not capable of making this decision for themselves. And PB have been found to cause longterm damage in women who were given them as children to treat precocious puberty.
@mxdahliabelle7 ай бұрын
@shelleybeek2181 your second point is worthy of consideration. The first point doesn't make a lot of sense, because if a medication causes sterility, it will cause sterility regardless of why it's being taken. And, no, a child cannot make this decision for themselves. Whether or not puberty blockers are appropriate is determined by the patient, their legal guardian(s), two licensed counselors, their primary care physician, and an endocrinologist. Kids aren't riding their bikes up to CVS and buying puberty blockers over the counter.
@shelleybeek21817 ай бұрын
@@mxdahliabelle PB have become the gateway drug to HRT. 95% of kids put on PBs go on to HRT and this combination results in sterility and frequently, sexual dysfunction. And, unfortunately, putting kids on PB is something doctors do with ease, and frequently after only a short initial appt.

@knrdvmmlbkkn I'm sorry your childhood was so rough. I never once thought to buy anything off the "black market" when I was a child. Also, making something illegal has no effect on the black market. So, what's your point? I also sincerely doubt puberty blockers are a boon to the black market economy. Far better drugs are readily available and far more popular (i.e. profitable).

While I cannot say if that first creator is truly trans or not, as that's not for me to judge - regardless - it definitely seems they are making content that is ludicrous for attention. I don't think that any of their content is honest and it's possibly even meant to be "satire," - though very failed satire. It seems like they are just being controversial for the sake of the controversy, regardless of who it's targeted at - they are poking fun at genuine trans and female struggles, as well as health struggles and more. It's really poor behaviour and I hope that people will just stop watching it - we shouldn't glorify or support behaviour like that. That said, I feel like healthy minded individuals wouldn't really do this type of content, and I really do hope they get all the support they need so they don't have to feel that they need to seek attention in such a negative and harmful way.

Just wanna add my thoughts regarding the 3rd video. I do believe that adults should have the right to do whatever they want to their own bodies, even if I personally do not understand their choices. My thoughts have nothing to do with the trans debate but just the freedom over one's own vessel. Wanna do T or E? Sure. Get 13 face lifts? Go for it. Replace all your limbs with mop handles? You do you. I think we will end up in a future where major body modifications is common. Yes, I might be a bit mad

@s4di.32 ай бұрын
I think it is something you will begin to understand more as you get older. The vast majority of kids who experience gender dysphoria end up growing out of it. The risk comes in when you have a child experiencing temporary dysphoria or experiencing something that isn’t actually gender dysphoria. If you put a child on puberty blockers and HRT you are making irreversible changes to their body, and even at 18 years old, kids don’t have enough life experience and brain development to truly understand the weight of transition. Nevermind the fact that preventing a body from going through puberty can cause more problems in the long run.

HRT is *not* for anyone that wants it. Men with low testosterone may get it. Women with low estrogen may get it (usually tied to menopause and age but not always). And some intersex people may be unable to produce enough of either hormone due to the condition. And of course trans people exist too. But now imagine if a normal man with normal T level wants to get extra T? Not even cross sex hormones. It may lead to issues. Now if he started to take estrogen in amounts that the male body isnt used to he will also experience effects from that and if he isnt trans then like..dont do it. And with testosterone the effects are even "worse" if it turns out the person isnt trans and wants to detransition
