Those Tusk foot pegs are such a great upgrade for the Transalp. I've had them on my KLR and they are so much more supportive on the TA it's really a no brainer especially for the price

I like the idea of the Acerbis frame guards as my stock frame guards are getting scuffed up already as you said yours were also. Did not know they were available. Thanxs. I got the SW-Motech footpegs that have 36 positions (in a circle) and have then in the 15 mm (1/2") lowest position which helps my bad hips. I use them with the rubber removed from the footpeg. I have the black Outback rear rack which makes for a larger rear rack area. I have the SW-Motech gloss black metal handguards that have the exact same holes and bends,.. as the BarkBusters which were not available last January for me. Only the plastic guard part is a different shape for SW-Motech but one of the packages from SW-Motech has a pick of the BarkBusters on it and BarkBuster can be clearly read on it in the color picture. So they may get them from the same supplier.? I also added a larger kickstand foot print which is nice on hot pavement or in soft soils. Also have the popular Hepco & Becker skidplate and lower crash bar from Germany.

So the sw-motech handguards are actually just rebranded barkbusters with a different plastic moulding which means that you could theoretically switch out the plastic guard on it for a barkbusters one if you’d like

I think long and hard about "upgrades", especially 3rd party "upgrades". I'm not saying I wouldn't upgrade anything but Honda put a lot of thought and experience engineering this machine and there may be reasons they didn't go that way. I don't stay between the lines and I know that doesn't make anyone money but it's food for thought. Congrats on tripling your subscribers in 5 days.

Most of what I’ve added is pretty necessary to use the bike how I need to use it. If you don’t plan on doing any off-roading or dropping your bike, you probably don’t need skid plate and crash bars, but the Honda ones are much thinner and mount to the engine, so in the event of a crash it would cause a lot of harm to the block. Mine weigh more but with the added level of protection, it can’t hurt plus the weight is low down so you can hardly feel it. The hand guards Honda offers are made of plastic and will not protect your hands or bike in the event of a crash. The factory tires provided are perfectly fine if you want to stick to only well maintained dirt roads and on road but hit any sand or mud and they are pretty useless. The shift extender isn’t really necessary if you have normal sized feet but I’m a size 13 us and ride in Mx boots with very little flex, so pushing it outwards and giving me a bigger platforms allows me to shift quickly and not accidentally shift when I don’t want to, and it has the added benefit of folding so when it gets dropped I don’t have to replace the part and possibly even the quick shifter. The frame guards aren’t necessary if you aren’t wearing big boots or riding through wet or rough terrain but it will add a layer of protection to the frame, brake actuator, and engine case, as well as providing more grip with the bigger contact patch. All of these things are just my recommendations, and being that I’m newish to motorcycles and off-roading them, I want to protect it as much as possible. I love the bike, but I make all my vehicles my own, and always have! Like I am super tall so when i first got my corvette that was horrible to fit in but I customized it to make it work, so the same idea applies to this. Also thank you :) I have around 40k on my other platforms so double digit subscribers isn’t a huge thing to me, but I haven’t mentioned my channel anywhere but in my motorcycle groups. I’m mainly just tryna help out my fellow transalp owners/ future owners!

How was your experience with shipping from Outback? It’s pretty steep in comparison with other manufacturers. Any delays? Was there a signature required during delivery?
@Tailbo
@Tailbo 3 ай бұрын
So they do a partial refund on the shipping depending where you are. I think my crashbars ended up being 50-70 to ship and my center stand was 50. Took under a week and I didn’t have to sign. Also they give you a bunch of free stickers.
@mbarr691
@mbarr691 Ай бұрын
@jasonbyers2626 I agree with Tailbo. I live in CA and shipping only took a couple of days. It was here super fast. I ordered the pannier racks and centerstand only since they were currently out of the skidplate and crash bar combo. My only complaint is the left side pannier rack is a little too close to the stock luggage rack so it takes a little manipulation to get my Lone Rider luggage locking mechanism to lock down. I'm planning on providing Outback Motortek with some feedback.

Can you change the oil with that skid plate or do you have to take it off
@Tailbo

Gotta take it off but it’s only 4 Allen socket bolts and 2 8mm to take it off. Really easy

A link for the shift extender? Thank you
@Tailbo
@Tailbo 2 ай бұрын
here’s the link amzn.to/4c0vs9H (it’s an associates link don’t hate me lol) it comes with all the hardware except you’ll need to add a washer. The problem is the area of the shifter that houses the main bolt and bushing is just slightly to long so when it’s fully torqued it seizes up to the bike or loosens the bolt. Solution would be get a thin wash big enough to cover the bushing area and fit the bolt but not touch the shifter, or alternatively sand the shifter down about 1mm so it doesn’t contact the frame and has a slight bit of play side to side when fully torqued. Use name brand medium strength loctite (usually works better than generic) on all the bolts and torque everything. The vibration has caused some of my bolts to come loose when I didn’t use loctite. Use some waterproof grease on the bushings and linkages as they aren’t sealed with a rubber boot like the oem shifter. Even though it sounds like a hassle it wasn’t really and I really enjoy it! Way cheaper than the sw motech version and gives me more than enough room as well as a bigger contact patch so I don’t miss shifts. I have US13 feet and wear tech 7 boots and I couldn’t even shift before and certainly not while standing so it’s definitely a massive improvement for me at least. Also folds when you drop the bike so u don’t gotta worry so much about damage. Side note: SW-MOTECH sells the real version of this along with a brake pedal and has an attachment for a much bigger grippy brake attachment with step up riser for off roading (sold separate) it’s like 300 for the set (sw motech prices always crazy) but the quality looks really good and I wouldn’t trust anything Amazon for brakes only shifter. I can’t afford it right now just wanted to throw that out there.

@Tailbo do you plan on adding fog/accessory lights? If so, any recommendations on affordable options. I'm looking at the Denali D4s in white for my main fog lights and the D2s in amber for additional parking/indicators.

have you noticed with the modifications(crash bars,skid plate,footpegs) did you noticed more vibrations on highway?
@Tailbo
@Tailbo 3 ай бұрын
I mean even if you remove the rubber from your factory pegs you will feel some ending vibration if you are putting a lot of weight on the peg. I’d say my tires are the only thing that can cause some vibration but once you wear them in after about 200 miles you won’t feel much. Just use proper torque specs on everything and loctite where it’s needed. The biggest difference after everything is handling because I’ve added about 35lbs and am not running a street biased tire. I just take turns a little slower and wider to play it safe, but I’m sure I can go a lot harder on the twisty roads than I do.

@@Tailbo so,taking the curves,the added weight of crash bars skid plate combination,is noticible worst?
@Tailbo
@Tailbo 3 ай бұрын
@@thodoris3790 not to badly. I think the biggest effect on handling was my tires, but after I broke them in it felt a lot more stable. I think as I am a new rider I am overly cautious regardless, but I just try not to use it like a sport bike and taking corners faster than my skills and the bike allow. Still handles amazing and you can push it a lot more than I do I just want to protect my investment and my life so I’m taking it easy for now.

I have similar mod's and I did not notice any change in vibration or noise. I do still have the stock windscreen. I am 5 ft. 9 inches (180 cm) tall with a 32 inch inseam. My 2024 still has the stock tires and I have approx. 45 years of riding on and offroad experience. (Ya, I know the calendar says I am getting old. Ugg. LOL.)

I have the same issue because my feet are so big. I have to have them in the right spot especially after standing up and sitting back down. Maybe look into the MIVV DAKAR exhaust. It reroutes the exhaust higher up and there is a carbon heat shield you can get for the lower portion of the pipe to ensure you don’t touch it.

Got mine in the fall, not the bike I was hoping it would be. Noisy on the highway, VERY difficult to ride smooth in town with the super lean fueling. Inaccurate speedo and noisy tires. Don't buy one based off the hype, try before you buy.
@Tailbo
@Tailbo Ай бұрын
I’m sorry you didn’t like it. If you are keeping it I’d like to make some recommendations for you. The highway noise is due to the small windscreen. The givi tall windscreen is what I have and it’s great on the highway now. I personally have no issues riding in traffic but could you describe some of the symptoms because you might need to take it into the shop. The factory tires on any bike usually aren’t good but which ones are you running? I have the motoz tires and they are knobby and even at speed they aren’t crazy loud. As for the speedo what makes you think it’s off? The combination of things makes me thing you have a sensor issue or something because most people I’ve spoken to haven’t had any of these issues.
