Gorgeous Trip !! 👍 I’m with you, I used to ride technical, it was fun & a great experience, but I got tired of only seeing what’s 10’ in front of me. Now I chase after these spectacular views, only seen from backcountry & the path less traveled. Nice work & thanks for sharing !

I've been living and riding in Colorado for a lot of years Just came across your channel. Dig it! No shame in turning around when it's like that. I won't even go- turned around many times in high elevation storms riding solo. I'd rather have a chance to come back, than be nursing broken bones for the short summer. Ride on!

Oh I can't wait to do this trip someday. Its funny, and to each their own, but to me the destination is the journey. Its all those neat trails/obstacles. No mater there size. Could be a cute little water crossing or a technical through a snow road, or an old guy I met on his porch. Anyway thanks so much for letting us ride along with you both on your trip.

Thanks for the video! I've done the entire TAT twice on an XR650L. Also did the Shadow of the Rockies Trail from El Paso to Baggs, Wyoming and the Mississippi Hill Country Trail. I put 37,000 miles on that bike. I never crashed it hard but I went through dozens of tires, 3 chains and sprocket sets, and even wore out the original wheels before giving it to a friend after it developed a mighty knock in the engine. I lost my wallet in Nevada along with $800 cash and all the other important stuff when my fanny pack fell off in the middle of nowhere. I rode 430 miles that day, mostly off-road, before I found it and made it to the next motel. That was the last time I ever carried my wallet in a fanny pack. In all those travels I doubt if I took over 3 dozen photos and not a single video as I'm lazy about such distractions, but man, do I have some great memories!

ALL THESE QUESTIONS .. did you carry extra fuel .. if so .. in what ? food .. what did you bring .. and how much ?? maps .. paper or gps .. how did you route this and know when to turn (l) or (r) .. ?? what kind of tents ?? rain gear ??
@MotoTherapy
@MotoTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
No extra fuel was needed for our particular bikes. We used GPX files on our dedicated GPS devices (purchased at www.transamtrail.com), and we followed the route on the GPS. Food-we never carried more than a day or two of food, and used trail mix and bars to supplement things. Tents-My tent is a 2P by Hyke and Byke. Rain gear-Rain shell overgarments just in case (Tournaster jacket and Rev’it pants)

Thanks for watching, and stay warm! I rode with hard panniers because I like the ease of locking them, etc., but they are potentially harder on the lower extremities in a crash. Personal call.

Thanks, and thank you for your service! We both had standard gearboxes (non-DCT). As for the climbs, the torque in the ATs is wonderful--they just tractored up the mountains, with very occasional clutch feathering to help in the technical stuff.

I’m looking at buying an Africa Twin. I know it’s not light but I’m curious how it compares to the BMW
@MotoTherapy
@MotoTherapy 2 жыл бұрын
They are both spectacular bikes! The AT is a bit lighter and has chain instead of shaft drive. The BMW (1200/1250 GS) is a bit more suited for freeway riding, although the AT can hold its own there. The AT is probably a bit more dirt capable than the BMW, although there are many impressive examples of both bikes being ridden off-road. I believe tubeless is standard on the BMW, but only available on certain AT models (many people prefer tubes off-road and tubeless on paved routes, but all that is personal preference)
