Marcelo, you did it man! Almost nobody can lift their bike 15 times and keep on fighting! Much less at that high altitude. You are a fighter and a champ!!! That help you got from Brock is priceless… I have had some bad days on the trails and when someone helps you like that… regardless of time “lost” and effort…. is just unreal. I passed next to all of you and they told me they were already helping you. Then I met all of you at the bottom of the Ophir pass. (I’m the guy that was riding the TW200.) You were all smiling and hugging each other. You all made it through!! I thanked Brock (and their friends) for being so AWESOME and take on a huge delay on their plan by helping a fellow rider that they just met. Brock saved your life and did it with a smile! What an awesome guy! Now I am a huge fan of Brock !… and also a huge fan of Marcelo, he had a huge smile on his face and a great attitude when he made it to the other end of the Ophir Pass. What an awesome and magical day … I saw Brock turn a horrible day into a beautiful one. That’s a trick not many people can do! ;) Thanks again for being awesome Brock!! I’m glad I got to meet all of you guys!

I recently fractured my ankle riding a GS on the Idaho BDR. Been laid up all summer. I’m in my 60’s, don’t have a lot of off road experience, but did take a couple of training courses. I’ve also watched many instructional videos but I’ve got to say that watching your video, especially with you instructing your friend while riding through hairpins was very educational. Not sure I’ll ride off road again, especially Ophir Pass, but if I do ride a less technical road I’ll remember your instructions. Great job and thanks!!

Good man! Taking care of your fellow man. I'm an old guy, and I'll never learn to ride a bike across those mountains, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for you fellas that do it. As for Marcello, he'll be back. Many of us have to ease into the trails. My very first trail was Clear Lake, and I remember having a bit of pucker most of the way up the top. Now I look back and laugh.

Congrats to you and your buddies. Really well done. Wow, saying Marcelo was over his head is the understatement of the year.... Tackling a notoriously difficult pass with no research, solo, without the skills, without proper gear (sneaker etc), wrong tires........ Wow!!!! I could almost feel his fear and panic. Situations like this can turn deadly pretty easily. It took a lot of patience and perseverance to get him down so Kudos to you and your riding buddies. Respect!

@@MotoMission. Crazy, I did it again last year, first week of October, south to North this time. Made it all the way to the top section then dropped the bike. I was so tired, and it was at an odd angle so I couldn't get it back up. Long story short, my buddy walked back down the hill, and me being 5'7" and him 6'5" we let him get it back going amidst all the jeeps that started streaming down. I think I am done with that section!

Well done, not an easy trail. Very nice of you to stop and guide him. That just shows the comradery between bikers, I love it. That bike does not have much ground clearance either, @ 20:29 stones hit the skid plate. To Marcello : I would certainly recommend some full size MX boots. If such a heavy bike tips over and your leg is still in between the rocks and the bike or crash bar, you have a big chance of loosing your foot. Also, load all the extra gear to the sides and do not strap it all to the back seat. That will make riding your bike much easier !
@MotoMission.
@MotoMission. Жыл бұрын
Great advice ! And you are totally right about the skid plate. Low clearance makes that trail nearly impossible to do without crashing.

@@MotoMission. definitely will. Im going to be teaching at a Federal facility the week of April 24th in Nashville. Quick technical question. Which system are you using for recording the audio on your helmet cam? I have a GP 11. Are you using an additional audio system other than the external mount on the camera?
@MotoMission.
@MotoMission. Жыл бұрын
Capturing audio is just my GoPro w a mic. No additional recorder. I film and edit so fast I chose not to do an additional unit. Get the mic close to mouth and keep a dead cat on it to improve the quality. That works pretty well for me. I’ve tried many options and spent a lot of time beating my head against the wall w bad audio.

My stomach was doing summer salts watching this. Great job you guys. One technique that can come in helpful if to shut off the bike, leave it if first gear, and use the clutch to brake the back wheel so then you can keep both feet down in the really gnarly stuff. Once past the really bad stuff go ahead and start it up again.

@kenbianucci2223 2 жыл бұрын
I feel badly for the guy but he was way out of his element and seriously needs some off-road skills as going slow and using any front brake on loose scree covered hard pack is a bad recipe. Not ridden Ophir but it is no different than any other scree covered hard pack and focusing on the drop-off has this guy diving for the crash as opposed to riding through the issues. I am guessing every time he applied front brake and got a slide he freaked out and opted to lay the bike down. It probably didn't help that it appeared he could not even get both toes down which for newer riders is very unnerving when terrain they are uncomfortable with is presented. Thanks for taking the time to get this fearful rider back on his journey. I can't imagine being that fearful and having to pick up my bike fifteen times while being stressed out, he probably required a couple days rest to just get himself back into a good place.
