HEY MAN!! They are called Cylindrical Body Clecos. I found them, and that bearing that you use to tighten them down with! I can;t tell you HOW large an inspiration you are to my effort. I;ve done a workup on a spreadsheet, and to get to where your progress is as of Episode 14, it will cost a shade under $5000. That with the price of the bus, and all the tools. I am SOOO stoked. Thank you, once again! You are an AMAZING fabricator!!!

Sweet....I knew you would find some!! You'll love them! Thanks again.....It makes me feel good to know these videos have inspired you to raise it. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to help you from afar. Hopefully the videos are fairly well detailed to help out. Oh yeah....are you going to document the raise? If so, I'd like to see it.

Are you kidding me? Dude! You ROCK! I love how detailed an explanation you lay out, the time lapse, and then the finished product. Also... That steady-cam gimbal mount is ACES!! I have little questions, that I will address later. I just keep re-watching these and I keep learning! Can't for you to upload the actual skinning process. BTW... What do you use as a sealant between the panels, before you rivet? Thank you!

Ha.....I love your enthusiasm! I've really enjoyed the gimbal....video is so much smoother now. I'm going to start working on the side skins today.....so hopefully I'll have some new video up soon.

Watched your videos thinking that your ahead of me. We bought a Volvo based VanHool touring coach, 12-meter long (40-feet) and currently turning it into an RV. Similar to your school bus. Nice to see a vehicle professional tackle a big project. As we've watched a lot of keen beginners on KZbin and cringed at some of their basic mistakes. Your front roof window has added to our build; as our planned solid roof joint between raised roof and original has been overtaken by your brilliant window fit. Your roof window was the first video clip we found... We have taken our roof up 300mm's (about a foot). The Clecos that we saw you use, meant that when we re-skin the entire body, we wanted to see what and how you did it... So, started hunting through your back library, and HEY, found your little tutorial at end of this episode. BIG problem we got, is that rivets here are sold in mm's (milimetres). Living in England :-). The rivets are measured in MM's and when buying the Clecos, on line, that are sold in fractions of an inch.... SO we bought a kit of 4 different types and when we find out what sizes we use most of... We'll buy more of that size. Keep the videos coming. Oh by the way, we're now encouraged to go public, a website, as well as KZbin channel will shortly be joining our FaceBook build progress. Kindest regards. Philip & Barbara Arundel. Near Stonehenge, England.

Good stuff,a little insite to what I am getting into. My bus was hit there and has to be rebuilt. A little time and work will get it back in shape. Awesome vid series been a big help.

Great to see an update, man! I was hoping you'd get back to the bus after the vintage hondas in the desert! What I'm REALLY looking forward to now is watching how you cap off the front, man. That's the part that has me scratching my head a bit.
@TranscendExistence11118 жыл бұрын
Oh yes...the CT90 in the desert was an awesome, much needed vacation! Hopefully I'll have some footage of the front transition are fairly soon for you. How's your bus coming along? Did you go ahead and decide to raise the roof?
@cbthethird8 жыл бұрын
Transcend Existence Yeah, i've just been removing all the tar and corrosion from the leaky roof hatches. I wanna get the roof raised this summer. When I'm not working on the bus, I'm messing with or riding mopeds. Got a shed full of Tomos mostly. A couple Hondas.

DAMN MAN!! This was the BEST one yet!!! I like how the back ribs were completed and spray painted that primer/rust-stop grey, before you started skinning. Gives a good contrast. VERY happy that this update came as quick as it did and you are making progress. I get so much from all of these vids. I'm glad the new gimbal and mount are working out great. And thank you so VERY much for the CLECO demonstration. Demo some welding!! Like how many amps are needed to be running so that you can tack and weld the square tubing to the inside of the hat channel. That would be nice!! As always your videos ROCK! Thank you!!!! Mark

Thanks so much for the kind words! It makes me happy to know these videos are of good use to those looking to raise their roof. As far as welding goes....It's tough sometimes to get great looking welds outside with the wind blowing away the argon gas. But, I just blob more on and it'll be OK. The welder I'm using is just a smaller sized 110ac unit with a 20 amp breaker. Most home wiring can support this system. It works well for thinner metal, but I wouldn't use it on anything too thick. It won't get hot enough to penetrate well. It works great for my purposes on raising the roof.

Sorry I got ahead of myself..I did not wait until you gave the demonstration of the clecos as they are being called they are super helpful for any job that requires it.Cheers

I'm a high end hot rod builder and have had much experience in aircraft sheetmetal fabrication. As an artist, I have always looked to many mediums for creating.....so I guess it's all lended itself very well for this project as well. Thanks for following along Paul!

I have a question about those clecos.... The ones that use that "One Way Bearing" to tighten them down to the body, are those HEX type clecos? If so, where do you get that bearing? I am GREATLY fascinated in using them for my build. Thanks again!!
@TranscendExistence11118 жыл бұрын
You know....I'm not exactly sure where to get them. I have friends in the aircraft industry around here that get items like this for me. I'm sure you can google it and find many suppliers though. They are definitely very handy and work well. Good luck on finding some. Let me know.

what is your working budget for a setup that you got going? I've debated a long time about making a skoolie tiny home, but would like first hand opinions about budget and doing your own work for the most of the project.
@TranscendExistence11118 жыл бұрын
I hope to come in at about $15,000 for the complete project including the purchase price of the bus. I try to be very resourceful and reuse as much material as possible. My major expense is going to be the solar setup and batteries. I' would imagine if labor was being paid out to do all this work, that estimate would almost triple in cost..

I do not know why you did not include the words Temporary Rivets, That once the first holes are drilled you can then use to hold those together whilst you drill the next hole, Once you are happy you then remove and Re-fit the panel with normal rivets, You can remove the panel and add sealant then replace the 4 corner Temporary ones then fit all the other normal rivets, Lastly replace the 4 corner ones.

Yo man Chris used 16 gauge sheet metal for the sides . I’m thinking 18. I know you used 20 gauge . Also thinking of keeping Ac for road but also want to remove it for space. What was your solution for Ac while driving ?
@adrianp9187 жыл бұрын
what type of metal did you use on this and what gauge,
