Albeit though when they brought Gary back, they kinda reverted him back to how he used to be in the OG series. Being an actual researcher really did Mature his character shown in Chronicles and his further appearances in Sinnoh. But when they decided to bring him back in Journeys, his overall personality character seemed to change back to how he was before in Kanto & Johto

@@Transdimensional Yeah, hopefully we truly need a Pokémon Pokémon Chronicles 2.0 series, bring back missing characters from the previous series including the original Chronicles series too like that unique Pichu form, the character who's based on Gold, the two Team Rocket members from Chronicles and so on, also missing characters from the games like the Gen 5 protagonists (Hilbert, Hilda, Rose and such), Gen 7 protagonists, Gen 8 protagonists, Zinnia and the Dragonids (seems like she may appear in Horizons at some point involving Shiny Rayquaza maybe? Copium here), Ultra Recon characters and so on, so yeah

Hearing Gary's catch totals like 45 pokemon by episode 12 and 200 by the indigo league, it really sticks out that for a series with the moniker "gotta catch em all" it's main protagonist really didn't catch a lot of pokemon. Like even if we are generous and count evolutions of the same pokemon as "pokemon caught" the same way the pokedex does, by the point Gary has caught 45, Ash has caught 8 (Pikachu, caterpie, metapod, butterfree, pidgeotto, bulbasaur, charamander, squirtle). By the time Gary has over 200 pokemon, Ash has caught 15 (Pikachu, caterpie, metapod, butterfree (released), pideotto, bulbasaur, charamander, chameleon, charizard (won't listen), squirtle, krabby, kingler, muk, primeape (released), haunter (released)) + 30 tauros (which he never uses, the first tauros he uses is in the orange island championship, for the purposes of kanto catching 30 is a gag in an internationally cut episode). Ignoring the fact Ash didn't really win 3 of his badges in Kanto, really strikes how terrible of a trainer he was in Kanto

Journeys even went ahead and fixed some prior power scaling issues since XY made Diantha out to be extremely weak.

They made Alain not only paired up with Leon of all people, but also straight up demolished him and made him look far weaker than he actually is. This guy not only won the Kalos League and dominated most of it, he also beat 10 Megas in a row without many breaks, held his own against legendaries and the likes of Zygarde, ranked above 2 champions in the masters eight, and even beat an elite 4 member without being a champion, something Ash was never able to do until journeys . Compared to most trainers out there, especially in Kalos, that makes him more than worthy of being among the best, yet they only give him one KO out of three against Leon without putting up a fight. That's completely unacceptable. The same applies to Diantha who a lot of people hate for being a weak champion. She looked so competent against Lance in the first round which gave her the respect she deserved, and suddenly that's all thrown out the window when facing Leon in the semifinals. Like Alain she only takes down a third of Leon's usable Pokemon and gets wrecked hard as a result. That's nothing to praise or be proud of, 2 KOs out of 6 is disgraceful regardless of the opponent you're dealing with. With how strategic Diantha was shown to be in battle, she should have been able to beat 4 or even 5 of Leon's Pokemon before Rilaboom started sweeping her, yet that never came up here when it counted. I don't care if Leon IS supposed to be the strongest trainer in the world, that's no excuse for disrespecting other masters eight trainers when they belong among the best. Lance and Raihan both held their own against Leon far better than both Kalos reps did to the point Leon actually had to put in more effort to win, and that's what should have happened here. He should be pushed more, he should have struggled, he should have had to actually work hard to defend his title against some of the best. That's a way to show Leon's dominance without making him absurdly OP

Pair Leon against Steven and make Steven actually push him to his limits before Leon wins Put Alain against Diantha and give them an extremely close battle with Alain showing he's got what it takes to be a worthy successor even if Diantha wins here Put Ash against Lance which is the only matchup besides with Alain that makes actual sense for ash. Not like Steven who ash had barely any interactions with And have Diantha push Leon a lot in the semifinals to make the fight more interesting and show that being ranked number one doesn't always mean an easy victory

Tuesday September 3rd, 2024 I hope both Ash and Barry return in Pokémon Horizons. I remember what Barry said after the Sinnoh League ended(DP189). BARRY: Ash, Kay I admit it you're a teensy bit stronger than me but you need to become a whole lot stronger, for when I wipe the floor with you in our next battle, later. ASH: I'll get stronger, cause I have to get stronger. Ash basically kept his word to Barry. While Barry was training off-screen in Sinnoh, Ash continued to grow stronger by battling in the Unova(top 8), Kalos(Runner-Up), Alola(Winner) leagues as well as Winning the Masters Eight Tournament.

The way I see it they should have made one of the episodes of Aim to be a Pokémon Master go like this. Ash gets a message from Gary telling him to meet at the Viridain Gym in Kanto so they could have a rematch after Ash became World Champion that would be a great way to finish off their rivalry before Ash's story comes to an end.
