Was anyone else saying at the screen the whole time they were trying to find the entrance to the gate “it’s upstairs” this airport brings back so many memories to me, I was here last year and was about to miss my flight (it said that we had a 1.5 hour transfer but our plane was late so we only had 10 minutes!) and we had to sprint from one end of the airport to another, through security and everything, we were sweating when we got there! 😂. Thanks for the great video as always

Hi there Aidan thanks so much for watching and for remembering to click the LIKE button. Clicking LIKE helps our channel more than you can imagine :-D Thanks also for sharing your travel experiences at this airport with us. This airport is huge so if one is not quick to get to the gate one can get delayed very quickly in queues to security and or immigration. There were no others mentioning anything at the screens but we are positive that many travellers have made the same mistake as we did. Hopefully many will see this video before travelling to Suvarnabhumi and will therefore not get confused like we did. Enjoy the rest of your weekend :-D

Hi. I did many trips (Frankfurt-Bangkok BKK both ways) since Suvarnabhumi airport opening so I know the mysterious ways of that very large airport. I will make long story short and skip the "concourse" explanation you will find in the airport map. Like many airports you have a kind of domestic flights areas and international flight areas, so the first thing to read on signs is "Immigration" and "International departures"...and not the gate identification. The duty free of the international areas is not floor 1 (= ground floor) but floor 2, ...so after leaving the domestic gate, floor 1....the first idea is to find stairs or an elevator...which is usually at corners of concourse. You have small immigration transit desks, and now in the duty free zone. Then follow the D signs, ... you go straight to gate. The other way, flight from Frankfurt, at the gate, go straight concourse corner and check sign for small airports and islands "Phuket,Krabi,Chiang Mai...", you get the ICQ sticker for the domestic area...still at floor 1.

What a coincidence. I did exactly the same mistake last year when I arrived this airport from Copenhagen. after I went of the plane I almost immediately found the gate for my connection flight to Chengdu. I had 1,5 hours between the flights so I felt ok. But I was confused as the gate was empty so I continued to walk and ended up in a queue that was at least 100 meter long to the security check, that was the same place you walked. I quickly realized that the time to next flight was minimal due to the long queue. there was a lot of irritated people in the queue and security only had 2 checks open. I finally managed through and just had 10 minutes to gate closure. What a relief that was. that was my first time on Bangkok airport and I have to say that the signs was very confusing.

HeHe, nice hearing from you Peter and thanks for sharing your own experience, nice to know we are not the only ones who got it wrong despite doing that Transfer so many times. Informative video for those transferring at Bangkok. Been to Bangkok airport multiple times and the thing is there’s not enough information about international transfers as much as there are for domestic transfer. So it’s better to know in advance that domestic transfers are straight down on the level you have arrived and the international one are upstairs. Good to hear the good old “end of the walkway” sound. Have a good day.

AOT needs to remove the gate number signs on the arrival/transfer level at BKK as they are not relevant to passengers. The only time they are really used is for airline staff/VIP meeters/greeters to find the gate on the arrivals level to meet arriving passengers and let them into the arrivals/transfer area. Perhaps instead give each door a "room number" (eg. Room 2.4.2 [Level 2, Section 4, Gate 2] instead of "D2") that doesn't correspond to a departure gate number that only staff knows about.

Me and my wife were traveling to Phuket via Don Mueng Airport in Bangkok and did not realize the lines were different for international transfer so wasted about 20 minutes waiting in the wrong line. Once we reached the passport control, the officer told us we needed to go to a different place. Not a big hassle but just wasted a lot of transfer time. It can be confusing for passengers who have not been to a certain airport before and it's their first time. :)

Suvarnabhumi Airport can be a little confusing and messy if you are transferring for the first time. I just remind myself that there are 2 types of airports in the world, one where arrivals and departures are on separate floors, and therefore you will need to clear security and/or immigration first depending on whether you are doing dom/int or int/int transfer. Then there's the second type where arrivals and departures are on the same floor (e.g. Changi T1,2,3), where you head right to your gate after a central or gate security check.

That said, at Frankfurt Airport we have tried arriving on a flight from Copenhagen and when Transferring from the plane we only had to pass through Immigration (it seems some flights can be exempt). Hi there Alex P. Thanks for watching our video and for sharing your own travel experiences on this route. You are absolutely correct, we always tell our viewers that they must make their way to the gate of their next flight at Suvarnabhumi Airport quickly as walks can be long. We always book our flights as a package which means we do not always get the option of selecting a later flight for our connection to or from (for example) Koh Samui. We prefer more time between flights as it gives time for delays and gives us time to explore the airport. Thanks again for watching. Greetings from Australia! I love your videos and personalities and have been watching your channel for over a year now. I especially like when you make videos of Bangkok airport and Thai airways trip reviews. I take flights from Melbourne to Stockholm, Sweden (my home country) via transfer at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, and when I watch your videos it just pleases me and makes me feel closer to home than I ever was. Please keep creating great content and trip reviews! P.S: also, “END OF THE WALKWAY” 🙂

I made a similar mistake when connecting in Frankfurt once (opposite situation to what you encountered in BKK). Apparently, passengers arriving in Frankfurt from the US are exempt from clearing security before connecting to their onward flights and are "funneled" directly into the departures level after leaving the jet bridge. In my situation, I thought I was smart and instead followed the "transfer" signs and went up the escalator to the transfer area before leaving the jet bridge. This resulted in me having to clear security before going back down to the departures area.

Hi there thanks for watching our video and for remembering to click the LIKE button which really helps our video get recommended to more viewers by KZbin. We can see that you have made three separate comments and therefore we hope that you do not mind that we answer all three with this same message ;-D We also felt very nostalgic when we heard the sounds from this airport that we like visiting so much, while editing this video we could just have jumped into the video, just to be there again! :-D Funny you mention Frankfurt and the similar mistake made. In Frankfurt we have experiences that we have come in on a flight from Copenhagen and have also been exempt from passing through security for some reason (only had to pass through Immigration). You passing security even though you did not have to was unlucky, well at least you got some sightseeing done ;-) Your idea with maybe changing the way the gate number looks on the lower level sounds like a good idea. From some of the comments under our video we can read that we are not the only ones who have been confused! Thanks for sharing your opinions. Best Regards from maxi and Maro :-D

my biggest question coming from zero exp. with international travel, is how do I print a new boarding pass to a separate connecting flight to another country once im at this airport?
@bigdrip.4055 Жыл бұрын
Did you do it?
@bigdrip.4055 Жыл бұрын
I have the same issue.
@victoryang2094 Жыл бұрын
@@bigdrip.4055 long story short through expedia they purchase from different companies so you will have to get a ticket at each company counter desk some in or outside of airport security between layover. Pro tip is to keep digital and physical copies of your whole itinerary receipts confirmation numbers etc. all of it incase they need proof you have reason for re entry into the actual airport while not having a boarding pass/ticket. When i was in thailand bkk i had to go back through security to access the companies counter to print my boarding pass. If the layover is long they mostlikely won’t be able to print you your boarding pass until the windows to your flight gets closer. goodluck be safe be smart have fun
