For everyone watching this video, it is NOT recommended to use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. Use a breaker bar or ratchet wrench if possible.

Those are crush washers, serving 2 purposes, crushing to seal any leaks, crushes to avoid stripping your threads.
@mikew13682 жыл бұрын
I do it the same, but since it's only 0.45 quarts, the hand pump wasn't a bid deal. The rear differential holds several quarts, so exchanging the VTM-4 fluid using the hand pump took a while. Also, I prefer to remove the fill bolt entirely and confirm no loss of gear oil. It will also allow faster draining. Small point: The washers are not locking; they are crush washers.

By chance know what size mm the drain & fill plug crush washers are?
@mikew1368 Жыл бұрын
@@SLCGlobalGlass I forget, but I just went to Acura to insure getting the right sizes. They are way overpriced, but it was for my father's MDX, and he likely will sell the vehicle before it needs to be done again. I bought a 10 pack of them on Amazon for my Civic's transmission drain plug, which is what I think you desire to do. Any Acura dealer parts dept have it on their computer and should give you the sizes.
@SLCGlobalGlass Жыл бұрын
@@mikew1368 thanks for the reply, yeah I probably will end up calling the dealer again. I just did the transmission fluid, went to the dealer to get fluid along with the washers. Yes, they definitely are way overpriced lol. It was ridiculous, but I plan to just buy an assortment of washers, and hopefully will have the correct size when I do it. If not then I guess I’ll be running to a store real quick to find one during.

That's right slave admit the injustice, the problem or faults then say lol but my slaved out mind, heart and wallet controlled ass bought the overpriced supplies regardless. Could have gotten for a honest or reasonable price wherever else, instead you prove to the corporations exactly how duped out most people are and they'll keep right on happy ending that ass too.

love your how to on the acura series. Is the transfer case fluid the same for 2017 model?
@JDMRightHandDrive4 жыл бұрын
Thanks I am glad you like my series. I could not find a factory service manual for the 2017 MDX. I contacted the Acura dealership and asked the service department what gear oil or fluid is used for a 2017 MDX transfer case. They said that Hypoid gear oil is what you need. The service department said its an 80w-90 hypoid gear oil. It's a heavier weight compared to the older MDX. I would just stop by you nearest Acura dealership and they can easily set you up. That's what I did. They sold me all the crush washers and fluids to complete the entire drive train fluid exchange.

I like your idea of using gravity instead of hand pumping. Did your funnel come with the hose attached or did you attach a hose to a long neck funnel?

I am sorry but I cant remember the sizes, I did this video quite a while ago. From what I remember there were 2 different washer sizes. You can contact your local Honda or Acura dealership. I purchased all the washers directly from the local Acura dealership. Hope that helps, good luck!

Brother, locate the rear differential under your vehicle. The driveshaft should be connected to the rear differential. Follow that same driveshaft to the other end towards the front of the vehicle. The transfer case is the assembly should be connected to the front end of the driveshaft.

Does transfer case fluid change mean the same with transmission fluid or this working for gear? I mean transfer case and gear case mean the same?
@mikew13682 жыл бұрын
The transfer case takes power from the transmission and distributes it to the front and rear axles on AWD vehicles. The transmission fluid is different. The fill bolt for the transmission is accessed from the engine compartment, and its drain bolt is on the bottom of the transmission case, and it is labeled. Honda ATF DW-1 is the recommended fluid and you replace whatever amount drains out, which is typically less than half of the capacity or about 3 quarts.
