Transferring Bees into Hives

In today's video we start preparations for the spring season by transferring a Nuc colony into a full hive and we start adding some supers on the stronger hives. It was a windy day so I apologise for the audio but the wind is out of my control. I hope you enjoy!

A suggestion to get the bees up into the supers, take the 20 drawn super frames from the 2 drawn supers. Place 2-3 drawn super frames into the middle of a super with foundation frames on the edge. This will encourage the bees to move up onto the drawn super frames, just remember that this could spread diseases so please be careful 🐝

Where does the sugar come from ? Is it especially for bees, and is it organic? How long do bees live, is it several seasons or more? Another interesting and educational video, thank you, Ben and Team xx

The sugar is literally the the white granulated stuff you can buy in the shops. At this time of year we’ll add a 1kg of sugar to 1 litre of water. In the autumn we then give them a higher contraction of 2kg to 1L as it’s easier for them to store with less water. The bees that go through the winter will live for about 6 months with their main role of keeping the hive warm and they will all be worker bees (female) no drones (male). In the spring, summer and autumn the queen will start to lay eggs again and these bees will live for 4-6 weeks, collecting nectar and pollen and raising the baby bees. These will be both worker and drone bees

You might want to consider getting some cheap wireless lavalier mics if you're have issues with wind noise. I got a pair for less than £30 and they've made a massive difference to my videos.

I did think about these before but I thought if it’s not attached to camera I’m either going to forget taking it or more likely will end up loosing it! 😂
