I picked up a lathe along with an assortment of other equipment/hand tools and fine wood from a man who unfortunately was no longer to use them due to his health. He practically gave a UHaul trailer load of stuff to me. I have been dying to get my hands on that lathe (which has never been used but probably 10+ years old). The skills and talent you guys have amazes me.

I have heard alot of people suggest freezer paper, but i was never able to get it to feed through my printer. Frustrated with that method i tried poly sheet protectors and it worked fabulous. Avery heavy duty have been the best in my opinion. i just cut off left and right side making it the same size as 8.5x11 and the bottom and now you have 2 "plastic" papers to print on. so much fun !

You can do the same thing using freezer paper, which is even cheaper than label paper. Just cut it to size and print on the shiny side. My results don't show any noticeable difference between the label and freezer papers. Please keep the great videos coming!

Thanks for a great idea! I don't have a wood lathe, but this method of transferring an image may solve a big problem for the wife and me. We've been trying to figure out a cheap, easy and quality way to transfer our photos to ceramic tiles for coasters. The expenses must be low to sell at a profit. The ink probably won't work on ceramic, but there's a primer, brush or spray, called B-I-N that will. We're going try it TODAY, printing on label backing as you suggest, and transferring to B-I-N treated tiles. Wish us luck! The next craft fair is only 2 weeks away!

No luck. The heavy layer of ink in a high quality photo makes a mess. Oh well...

Sorry to say Epson too. I never tried freezer paper but the shipping labels backing paper worked well. Just be very careful handling the paper. You can easily smear the ink.

My concern is what you have done to the inside of your printer with the ink you have left behind. I use inkjet decal sheets. Not the best because the fixative kind of wipes out the yellow but at least my inkjet printer isn't getting a bunch of residue buildup inside. Best to stay with laser decals. Go to Office Depot or Staples and print them if you don't have your own laser printer.

Neat! Could you "miniaturize" the process and put it on a turned surface such as a pen barrel? Opens up a lot of opportunity!
@carlbruschnigjr17574 жыл бұрын
If you use MS Publisher, you can scale the size by dragging the corners of the image frames. The limiting factor will be how much the ink will spread after the application to the wood and the type of wood you use. Hardwoods will hold the ink better with minimal spread. Some woods may have to be wiped down with alcohol and dried before applying the ink. Best to test it first with a piece of scrap. Let the ink dry for a day before applying the finish such as CA or some of the friction finishes.
