Now that I've been playing marching snare more than ever and am likely going to march for the first time this summer, I can tell any person that is thinking to themselves right now that rudiments are "boring" or "useless" that once you get them down, they're really a ton of fun to work with and will make drumming in-general so much easier and fluid. Gabe calls the paradiddle-diddle "boring" for the sakes of the video, but I honestly find it one of the most fun since it's an easy one to do fast. If a bit of technique training and rudiments can get me to playing top-grade solos in my state, it can take you much further. They are your best tools...!

@@DrumBeatsOnline By the way, do not worry about those moments when "inspiration leaves", it is ok. It is unrealistic to expect anyone to have the same level of energy all the time, look at nature and find strength, even nature has its rests... winter... If Gabe pretends or let other around to let him surrender to their expectations, that will only extend the period of "winter". Let Winter be for we know after winter comes Spring! ;) Your eyes look tired... Rest My Friend, Rest... I hope that just as I receive your instruction on drums, you would receive what I share, without expectation, only shearing as a candle shares its flame yet it doesn't diminish its own... There is probably enough material in this one video to keep me going for at least a year. Excellent stuff! He makes it look easy but once you take those rudiments and start moving around the kit, that becomes the test of whether or not you actually know the rudiment. The new sounds you hear will throw you off but don’t give up. Keep practicing! You’ll get it eventually. *And don’t forget to reverse hand order.

I mean... I see what your point is but I think at this point, if you want to be able to play the last step quickly, the most efficient would be to start working on it directly as it's so far away from the original paradiddle diddle... But in the end I agree, working on your rudiments is great, applying them on the kit is better !

You actually counted the rudiment out wrong. It wouldn't be 1 & a 2 & a Its more 1 la li 2 la li What you counted is a set of eighth notes with a sixteenth note on the end. Similar to the cadence of a horse galloping.
