It is incredible I've never seen anyone use a moss pole horizontal. I would love to see you make another one its such a great idea.

Love the horizontal idea! Also, fun fact: “Oregon moss” is just a type of sphagnum moss. 😊 sphagnum is sold under different names. That one is likely sphagnum harvested from…Oregon. Lol. Most will be quite hydrophobic when purchased, and require soaking first. But that can be good to avoid root rot if it’s not super absorbing at first. That also explains the rusty hook and stuff… the excess water. 🙂

Thank you for the clarification! After we shot and edited the video we were writing a blog about it and found some information related to what you shared with us. At this time I think it's either that specific moss, or batch that we purchased, isn't holding as much as an experiment we have right next to it with New Zealand moss. Thank you for the cool info! We love fun facts😊

7:53 it would go great in the shower against tiled wall. What an awesome unique way to use a moss pole. Haven’t seen this idea anywhere. You should patent this but it might be to late. I’m also thinking that with all the 3d printing, it should be easy to make a trough of some sort so you can easily pop this in. Great idea!

That would be cool! My husband might not like the idea of plants in our shower 😂 but I do!

I’m totally doing this!!! I may try a pothos or something as practice first though I need to get to know my Hoyas more in the mean time…

For awhile now I have been considering using a trough planter to hold hoyas and hang it by macrame straps from a top pole all the way across to attach the straps to. Add a trellis at the back of the back of the trough planter to let some grow up and some trail down. but this is as far as I have gotten with this. I have considered planting directly into the trough planter or maybe putting individual pots into the trough so each plant can be watered as needed.

Thank you! I was thinking about that! Just use moss as a decor + to retain more moisture but with soil as the base. I think that would be great!

Very interesting idea. I’ve been thinking about growing a Pubicalyx in a pot with a moss pole to see whether the leaves would size up as it grows up the pole. But your idea looks fascinating as well. Goes to show how versatile Hoyas are. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely going to try this. But i think ill try using a long corkbark tube, drill holes in the face of it, stuff it with moss and do this, and maybe use industrial suction cups so i can stick it to my window or bathroom mirror.

Did you grow any vertically? And if so, How does that compare with the ones that are in a pot with just a trellis? Thanks so much hope to hear from you soon.
@unsolicitedplanttalks
@unsolicitedplanttalks Жыл бұрын
We did actually do one vertically, I would say that there is a lot more roots from the vines and it is evenly supported due to the moss being available for all ofthe vines.

Love it! I was thinking you were going to have one growing up a pole like your Anderson. Which would do well like that? I would think pubicalyx? Some climb better than hang - thanks April!

It looks gorgeous! Wish I could do something like this. I have a question about your Louisa’s silver.. mine grows just one leaf per node not two. But I noticed yours grows with pairs of leaves instead. Does it regularly grow the pair or alternate leaves like mine?
@unsolicitedplanttalks
@unsolicitedplanttalks Жыл бұрын
Hmm it would typically grow in pairs. Is the space between your nodes a bit longer than normal? This can sometimes be an indicator of not enough light.
@damaris864-s9p
@damaris864-s9p Жыл бұрын
@@unsolicitedplanttalks it grows just one leaf per node regardless of conditions. Lots or low light. The leaf shape/size change considerably but it’s never grown in pairs. I know others experience the same with Louisa’s silver, so I think it’s a clone thing maybe?

@@unsolicitedplanttalks I forgot to say thank you for this video. I would never have come up with a creative idea like this. Subbing. I have moss poles and will have to cut some plastic out to make the holes bigger but I think am going to use Philodendrons like the Heartleaf ones. I will also use some wire that came with some my self watering pots and thread it all the way through so it will be easier to hang.
