Any way to export to a STL file with the texture applied ?
@sandeepmalpani41372 ай бұрын
Hello. Just wanted to share an update. I found out that with blender it is possible to export the STL file with the texture on it. I could even resin print the part with the leather texture and it all came out fine. There are a few tutorials on youtube one can refer to for same. This is the one I followed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKjUp62BaNadr9U Hope it helps. Reply

As someone who knows alot about game model creation, i want to have an option to import OBJ files with they UV map and its material set. Because that would allow me to get really perfect results of the textureing and at the same time the materials, to mix multiplie textures on one model. And one that doesn't use any texture if needed.

I guess this features is handy for extremely simple displacements, but anything more than a simple Cube or Cylinder UV projection and you still need to use a displacement modifier in your 3D modelling package - which really, is going to be 90% of the time.

Velocity Painting does something similar. Grey-scale images are used to post-process gcode to modulate print-speed. By running each line with fast and slow bits, the texture of the surface is altered. No actual image-mapping displacement, but a nice effect. It can be pretty subtle, so Lithophanes still need to use thickness. With PETG, this can alter how transparent an area might become: slow printing give a more 'glass like' finish, faster has a hazy frosted effect. Hazy text on a glassy background really stands out!

object is only exported to gcode. that is when the texture is added, so saving as OBJ would only yield the original stl

@@3DMakerNoob yes but if you save the texture map out as a gray scale then import the texture to wrap around the stl its kind of the reverse of what i do with the models i create when using photogrammetry when i used to do the scan the world models for myminifactory after making the model i used to export the texture as a gray scale and then import the model into zbrush then import the alphamap and use it to add and bake the displacement map to the model giving it a boost on the details. just wondering if this way could remove the need for zbrush etc.
@colbylippincott71733 жыл бұрын
I asked about this feature and they said you need an obj file with the texture material and mapping files in the same folder. I have found it very difficult to make this file using solidworks, which can't export obj files with the texture included. The ideamaker team said they are working on making it compatible with .3mf or .amf files I believe, which would be awesome! Because I have some models that just stretch the texture out a lot and make it look uneven.
