Man, this is EXACTLY the Tutorial i was hunting for the last months - because i don´t need baking tutorials for Games i needed this one for 3D printing projects. THX a lot! 😃

Nice. Thanks for making the video. Any opinion on solidworks texture editing feature people are using to do this. Is this still your prefered method?

I followed the steps carefully but after I load the image nothing happens, no texture is applied, I loaded several STL files but nothing happens. What can be the cause?..

I am using the newest version of blender. I can follow you up till you apply texture and change to object then plane. Those options don't appear for me. Should I change versions of blender? Is there another way in the newest version? Any help would be appreciated

same! Trying to add textures from graphica textures that already exited in a model to export as mesh to give the 3d print the look of the object instead of the wireframe and i am completely lost @@Nickschaos81

nice - done a tutorial with Sine and Arctan in Shader Nodes to fake-displace, this is useful to print ♥

Very informational for newbies like me. Is there a surface template for a crochet/knitted texture? TIA!
@3dchimera8 ай бұрын
Happy to hear that it was helpful! Unfortunately, we don't have a knitted texture readily available for sharing at the moment.

I am using the newest version of blender. Downloaded 12/5/22. I can follow and understand up till the part where you apply texture, then select object then plane. I don't have the options that you have? Not sure what to do here, and am very new to blender.

That is always a challenge with a tool like Blender that is getting updated all the time. Wishing you the best!

would it be better to put the subd modifier before the displace?
@3dchimera8 ай бұрын
We have not tried that approach. Give it a shot and let us know what you think in the comments here.

Is there a video for isolating the top layer?

We don't have one on that at the moment, but we will share your comment with the content team for a potential future video.

how do you scale the texture if it is too dense or sparse?

We will try to include that in a future video.

This method only works with curved surfaces with many vertices. It doesn't apply to planar faces because the effect is only at vertices.
@ludnix Жыл бұрын
For anyone reading, you could subdivide your plane if you're not getting enough vertices or use the voxel remeshing tool from the sculpt panel. A plane doesn't have to be an efficient 4 vertices, it can be subdivided to fit the complexity of the geometry needed.
@AndyEngelkemier Жыл бұрын
He should actually be putting the subdivide modifier Above, and choose simple. Alternatively, some CAD software like Rhino has mesh options for maximum edge length. Set that to your minimum feature size, and you'll get a really nice even mesh (it will be Heavy). As you've noticed, displacement modifier will do nothing without the vertices to move, which is why adding a subdivision modifier after is just "smoothing" it by sort of blurring the results. Adding it first will make it more smooth And correct. Be sure to change it to simple first. And disable the displacement modifier before you add it first. Check the size of the resulting mesh, THEN enable it again.
