Since adopting a minimalist lifestyle, it’s become clearer that I struggle to accept the imperfect and impermanent nature of things, not only physical belongings but the other things we hold dear such as friendships and relationships. However, recently I discovered a Japanese philosophy called Wabi Sabi that's helping me embrace imperfection and impermanence and that accepting them can help to transform our experience of minimalism and enhance the quality of our lives.

This was lovely. Thank you. I really enjoyed the point of not OWNING things but being CUSTODIANS. This gave me a small sense of peace. Thanks again. :)

This is why we’ve planted fruit and nut trees in our garden - for those who live there in the future. It’s only ours until we die.

A prior home owner in only 5 years sadly left behind lots of damage, leaks and repairs. The prior story was likely a bit dark but over time have fixed things, learned some new handy skills, and have been a better custodian. I selected a just right amount of furnishings rather than overbuy too much crap. Enjoyed learning of this philosophy.

New subscriber here. I love your philosophical approach to minimalism. I'm probably around your age, and resonate with that maturity that comes from life experience and how that translates to minimalism. ❤

Wabi-Sabi is my word of the year. Beth Kempton wrote a great book about the philosophy.

I study law and securities banking and it might shock you reading this to know that you don't actually own anything... if you look at the title deed to the house (even if you've paid the whole thing off) youre listed as a tenant, and why is your car registered with the crown or the state corporation? Because they actually own it you do not own anything. You are merely using it. Guess what? You don't even own the legal name printed on the birth certificate that you use, the state created that too and they hold that security in trust at their registrar office.

I love old architecture and people that renovate/RESTORE old house believe that they are simply the guardians or caretakers of these gorgeous craftsmanship. Unfortunately the real estate market in Ontario Canada is making this act of love out of financial grip going forward. Love this concept

If things/places are falling apart, renovations are necessary. It's ok not to want live in a run down place.
