Unbeknownst to her parents with whom she lives, Sylvia is pregnant. Jimmy, the father of the baby, is a member of a local gang. Jimmy has a day job in a company that prints T-shirts. If he comes up with a great print design that sells lots of T- shirts, he gets a big cash bonus. Jimmy needs this bonus to give to the head of the gang, so that they have cash to pay for a drug shipment at the end of August. If Jimmy does not produce the cash, the rest of the gang will kill him. Jimmy asks Sylvia to become a social media influencer and make his idea popular, so that those T- shirts sell well. Therefore, if Sylvia is not a successful influencer, her boyfriend will be killed and she will not only be grieving for him, but will be forced to raise their child alone. In the streets- because her parents who are very religious will not be happy with her having a child out of wedlock. PS- Sylvia working in her parents’ laundromat was not an option (you didn’t know she was pregnant in the beginning, he, he).

Sylvia's dying grandmother told her that she needs Sylvia to live a new life, not staying with the norm of her family, and Sylvia needs to gain influencer status before her grandmother dies to fulfill her dying wish.

Sylvia needs to become a successful influencer by the end of the summer, so that she can influence the future of humanity. Sylvia is visited by three time-ghosts of her possible future self: one in which she succeeds, one in which she quits now, and one in which she tries and fails. She needs to be a successful influencer to inspire the right people, sending the future of humanity through the correct path to mitigate an upcoming crisis, and if she fails, then the species is doomed to extinction, either slowly (the failure's path) or quickly (the quitter's path).
