I like how despite being one of the most cruel Decepticons, Shockwave has the most heroic sounding theme. Of course, this is G1 Shockwave (or at least highly based on G1) so it does make sense, I mean he was Cybertron’s guardian and the second most loyal Decepticon outside Soundwave.

@@hyperion3145 Treacherous? Well, that's debatable. He did follow Megatron when Magatron was shown to be a competent leader, or at least demonstrated that he wasn't an idiot. He only did his first takeover because Megatron almost lost the entire war thanks to acting like a moron, when he trusted a human (a hostile one at that) with creating their fuel. Remember, that it was Shockwave who rescued the rest of the decepticons, including Megatron. Heck, later he willingly turned over leadership when Megatron figured out that they were both duped by Optimus during the attack on the mine that was their base at the time, despite Shockwave easily having the support of the other decepticons to kill Megatron in that moment. He only tried to kill him later when Megs went full bonkers. Shockwave was very much loyal, but not to Megatron, but the decepticon cause and his own values of reason. And he simply (in my opinion, correcly ) concluded that he would be a better leader, at that point he was still shown to be willing to keep Megatron alive, and to even step down the moment that he was proven wrong.

I love the contrast of the Waves' themes- Soundwave gives off that 'Don't mess with me, I'll fuck you up" kinda vibe, and Shockwave's gives off the vibe that he's the last obstacle in front of Megatron as the Autobots push forward. I absolutely love it!

I always loved how the soundtrack here seems to be evoking Shockwave's differing characterizations to give him a bit more depth. The first version is his usual incarnation from cartoons, where he's a dutiful, understated soldier. But when the second half kicks in, he's carrying the logic-motivated, hatred-driven mindset of his comic book incarnations.

They could be bosses. Well, now. The man can create clones of himself on Cybertron only-that's part of the series bible and where they got his cloning from here. So we've got a lives system in place without having to stretch. Possibly even infinite lives, since he can stay safely in command and control and make more. The thing is, he's got all of Cybertron as his base. That's a lot of power. It lends to the thought of an RTS/Strategy game more than an action game. Not that action is impossible, either. Except it's not really clear what sort of state's Cybertron's in, really.

I love that Shockwave's theme starts out like a calm, methodical track, but when he starts using Plasma Energy to power up his attacks, the true core of his character bursts forward in the electric guitars. "Clarity of thought before rashness of action" isn't just advice to others, it's a mantra to himself. He PLAYS at being a logical being, but he's a vindictive sadist who uses his research as an outlet. Because when he loses control of himself, yeah he starts making mistakes. But even the Dinobots can't snuff out the rage in his Spark.

Ok so I was thinking, imagine if the G1 backstory of the decepticons following the autobots into space was actually like shockwave's plan, because there's no way he just waited for 4 million years to hear from megatron. I thought that maybe he somehow ensured that Megatron was on the ship, and he sabotaged it to crash or something. It makes sense, that he would have taken out all the threats to his rule. Megatron, a powerful and cunning leader. Soundwave probably could have figured out his plan, and hyper-loyal to megatron. Starscream is unpredictable and annoying, and his seekers are dangerous in the air. The constructicons, very powerful asset as devestator, and loyal to megatron. The triple changers are also unpredictable and dangerous. It makes perfect sense now that I think about it ngl.
