I think Megatron lied about the false Energon being able to change people. He was just goading Tarn. Because he knew nothing would disgust Tarn more, nothing would convince him more that the Megatron he admired was dead, than to hear him admit he was happy being controlled by someone else.

He himself actually thought that it was the Fool's Energon that was keeping him "weak", but spoiler alert: It was revealed later on that it was only a placebo effect. The fool's energon only tasted bad and that was it. It was no different from regular energon. Thus revealing that all of Megatron's choices during his redemption arc at this point and from then on, were all choices made out of his own free will and not out of the influence of drugs.

@@michelcoolguy1701 By telling the Decepticons to stand down, he basically confirmed that they wasted their lives by following him. Meanwhile, Megatron get's to have his little victory by claiming he remembered what he had been trying to accomplish four million years ago. If Megatron had any respect for his soldiers, he would have kept fighting until they won or died trying so that he either brought about the future he promised or died knowing he died for his cause. But you know what? You do actually bring a good point and I probably wouldn't have minded all of this if Megatron HADN'T BECOME AN AUTOBOT. If Megatron had just decided that the Decepticon goal could be met through different methods and he continued to lead the faction but in a non-warmongering way that allowed for cooperation with the Autobots and Tarn in this scene was just angry because he wanted all the Autobots dead, I'd accept it. But nope, instead he throws down his badge, disowns his faction, destroys a revolution that he started, andwe get stuck this Megatron who not only constantly feels sorry for himself, not only dawned the emblem of a faction that had treated him horrendously before the war, but had also rennounced all violence at this point even if it meant saving others (Yes I know he goes back to being able to fight but at the time of this scene he hadn't) and thinks that persecuting every past decision he's made somehow gives him inner peace and a shot at redemption. It just doesn't feel in character for Megatron to me and thay's why I support Tarn's fury in this scene. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
