The thing about transformers is that they’re not machines. They are mechanical, but they are a form of life. Some of the lore talks about them having ‘Sparks’, and that’s kind of the first clue about them. A transformer’s Spark is effectively their soul, a little mote of energy deep within them that gives life to a mechanical body. Their bodies may have been constructed, but their SPARKS are invested in them by a divine source, either splintered off from existing sparks, or spun off of Primus’s core via a holy site known as the Well of All Sparks. They might have computer systems that their sparks interface with, but those systems are about giving the spark the ability to connect with the body, and through it the larger world, not controlling who they are or what they can do. The only thing that generally ‘programs’ their behavior is themselves.

Glad you watched this. I remember as young boy watching the G1 cartoon. Optimus Prime was so loved because he was a great leader who inspired other to be the best they could be, he cared other transformers even so much as putting his own life in danger to save others. This is why the other transformers usually sided with Optimus. Optimus showed us how to be a people and how to be a true leader. A leader isn't about power it is about serving others and making them better versions of themselves. Mentoring. As veteran this leadership style hit home for me about mentoring those under your command. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. A deep message for even us that it is not the color of skin but the quality of our character (our soul) that defines us. That we should inspire others to be the best versions of themselves. I can see Megatron's view but the problem is he was so full of hate and rage he didn't see Primus's vision that transformers were NOT supposed to fight each other but be a team against greater threats. Orion was literally trying to stop his friend from giving into rage and hatred, but it was too late. Yes, Sentinel was not a Prime and deceived people, but Optimus was a Prime he was chosen by Primus himself (planet)...and Megatron knew it, but his greed and hatred had taken over. As veteran this leadership style hit home for me about mentoring those under your command. Final note the original voice of Optimus Prime from cartoons and movies, Peter Cullen, gave this voice distinction as it was from his brother, a veteran, who told him, "Don't be the Hollywood hero....be strong enough to be gentle."

That ‘Strong enough to be gentle’ line always hits me. The idea that real strength isn’t born out of the exercise of power. It’s about compassion and connection. It’s about thinking of others, and doing right by them. It’s about taking responsibility when you’ve been careless so that you can learn to care when you’re responsible. That’s why I think it was so important for them to show Orion as being so reckless before his ascension, and that his recklessness was always born out of a desire to help others. His heart was always pure, and he was always willing to put it on the line for the right reasons. The only thing he lacked was the wisdom to judge how to be effective in doing so.

I still remember that line to this day because it’s true. Not only Orion and Megatronus were once brothers but the Autobots and the Decepticons were also one people in Cybertron before, as well. In fact, Optimus himself said it in the intro for War for Cybertron and I quote, “Now we fight, enemies who were once our brothers.”

42:05 if you listen in some of the movies you’ll hear either Optimus or Megatron say that they were “brothers” once. This shows what that relationship was like.

In the Michael Bay movies, their backstory is a little different according to the tie-in comics. Optimus Prime was never Orion Pax, instead he was a descendant of the original Primes, and a top-ranking scientist who basically became the president. Megatron held the title of “Lord High Protector”, the supreme general of the military. Together, Optimus Prime and Megatron ruled Cybertron as brothers, until Megatron became corrupted by greed and tried to use the power of the Allspark to wage war across the universe. This movie’s story is based more on the 2010s comics. In those, the miner-turned-gladiator D-16 started a revolutionary movement to overthrow the corrupt government that ruled over the unfair hierarchy system. Once he became a political figure, he named himself after his personal hero, Megatronus Prime, becoming Megatron. Orion Pax, who was a librarian, was his friend, but they had opposite views regarding how to reform the government. Orion had a lot of optimism, and believed with enough time and effort, society could be changed for the better peacefully. Eventually Orion was chosen by the High Council to become the next Prime after the current Prime either retired or died. This made Megatron jealous and see Orion as his enemy, since he believed he would be yet another puppet for the corrupt system. Megatron ended up killing the current Prime, and corrupted the planet’s core after messing with dark magic. This forced Orion to journey to the center of the planet to save it. As a reward for his bravery and dedication, the core granted him the Matrix before it went into a coma to repair itself. With the Matrix given to him, Orion Pax became Optimus - the Last Prime.

D16/Megatron had a pretty understandable reason to snap. He worshiped the system and Sentinel, but his best friend was constantly trying to cause mischief and D had to pull him out of trouble daily. He followed his best friend to a very zany scheme which got him thrown into a trash chute, then up to the surface where he almost died. He learned that his faith was completely misplaced, his idol was a traitor and he was robbed of his birthright by said idol. *All in a span of one Cybertronian day cycle.* No wonder the second he was given the T-Cog he started taking matters into his own hands. From his perspective, Sentinel is a hack and Orion is a next one in line - words and ideals over actions. Sparing Sentinel would do *nothing good* and that's a fact - once a traitor, always a traitor. "I'm done saving you" is D being fed up with having to constantly jump in the line of fire for other people - breaking his gears in the mines for Sentinel, getting slugged in the face for Orion. Orion did this to himself, his idealism got him shot by accident. D is done in every way

This feels more like a prequel to the original cartoon than the Michael Bay movies, even Optimus' Energon battleaxe is from the cartoon series, in the Bayverse he uses a sword and was a scientist before the war.

This is AN origin story. It isn't THE origin story as Transformers has a multiverse and the story differs between them. This is a new continuity which incorporates lore from other continuities.

D-16 always had a strong temper. But it was usually suppressed because he was powerless and so he used appeasement to deal with those he viewed as superiors. But once he did gain the power to transform and fight, that deep seated anger came to the surface and he didn't hold it back anymore.

They’re definitely a life form capable of feeling all sorts of emotions. They’re not just machines, They wouldn’t even need to hide if it weren’t for the war. What’s really interesting is that no one seems to notice they don’t even remember how they were brought to life. The lore hints that they can be activated in various ways. Plus, they have a tribal aspect to them. Some of the old cities you see them darting through used to belong to a tribe of those transformers we’ve seen as slaves, often referred to as "mine workers." If they make another movie, it should kick off the great war, which would be pretty tragic since Icon City becomes uninhabitable, forcing them to leave Cybertron altogether.

They may be robots but they're, bio-mechanical. They're living robots, they can think and feel and hurt and live and die. They mention it a few times but they all possess a 'spark', something akin to their heart and soul (it's their life source and an actual thing in their chest that can be destroyed) It's not so much that D-16 went mad with power or anything, he was already pissed off and mad (upon learning of Sentinel's betrayal), it was just that upon getting his cog he finally had a way to DO something about it. It was the straw that broke the camel's back, but then the camel was given a way to fight back against the jackass overloading it with straw. Unfortunately, D-16 was consumed by his rage and desire for revenge (which is why Orion tried to stop him from killing Sentinel, to keep him from losing himself).

In G1 megatron was already megatron and Optimus was orion pax that was killed by megatron. Alpha Trion then rebuilt him as the first of the new defendors. Optimus Prime!

Arachnid is an interesting character, I have a theory that she's the same Blackarachnia from Beast Wars. She's obviously a Decepticon by joining Megatron by the end of this movie but I think that at some point between then, about 3 billion years ago when life on Earth was just beginning to evolve from single cell organisms, and Beast Wars, around 300,000 years ago, she switched sides after falling in love with an Autobot named Silverbolt (You see his name in the IACON 5000 at starting position 137). In Beast Wars Blackarachnia and Silverbolt were found together and reprogrammed by Tarantulus to trick them into thinking they were Predacons. Silverbolt could remember his name but she had total amnesia so Taratulus gave her a new one. Silverbolt switched sides first then Blackarachnia followed him.

i love this movie... they finally made a movie in the golden age of cybertron that all fan want it the most. and is easy version origin too, is a fusion of many tf story from tv sereis and idw comic... it's a standalone origin story movie.. the director want they new origin for orion pax and D16 to be equal class but they will have difference path reason for them to split side. . . cartoon 80s - military was the decepticon vs civilian is autobot. in gen1 80s cartoon megatron was build by decepticon to destroy autobot sentinel prime was a hero... the reason sentinel prime become evil for any new series by the live action movie bayver dotm sentinel prime, so most new fan use to the live action already and never watch old cartoon or read comic. Orion Pax is in gen 1 "War Dawn" ep the story about optimus prime past. . in many comic - For D 16 name was from old takara toy of megatron "Walther P38 handgun toy" and was use as name in idw comic unfair transformers worker bot / gladiator /D16 being violent and stuff and victims to the corruptor autobot Council / Senate . Orion Pax [ in some comic they never use orion and just use optimus ] was police "Cybertronian Security Force " or Orion Pax was a librarian see all the archives and start worry for the home world.
