Prime Dreadwing’s voice actor, Tony Todd of Candyman fame, really made the character iconic. There’s just something about Todd’s delivery that conveys Dreadwing’s inner struggle with his own sense of honor, and his loyalty to Megatron. Dreadwing was one of the more tragic characters in Prime, and I was really sad to see him killed off.

What hurts so much about the death of TF Prime Dreadwing is that Megatron valued him so much, he gave him multiple chances to back down from attempting to kill Starscream, and when he was forced to kill him, Megatron instantly turned his rage at losing such a valued combatant on Starscream, basically telling him that if he even SLIGHTY tried to betray them, Megatron would end Starscream himself on the spot with no warning.

I heard an interesting theory from Emperor Kumquat that explained that despite Megatron’s opinion about Dreadwing, there are reasons why Megatron ultimately chose Starscream over Dreadwing. First is the power scale. Dreadwing was much stronger than Starscream, meaning that should he turn against Megatron, he would have a better chance at killing Megatron than Starscream ever did. And secondly was his personality. Dreadwing was more subtle when it came to his disobedience, unlike Starscream. While Dreadwing didn’t have as many defiances against Megatron’s orders unlike Starscream. However, the times he did disobey were more impactful. Furthermore, where Megatron could easily monitor and intimidate Starscream due to his sycophantic nature and cowardice, Dreadwing was free-spirited and independent, making him much more unpredictable and harder to control than Starscream. With both of those combined, in long run, Dreadwing would’ve proved more liable and threatening to Megatron’s leadership, unlike Starscream, who remained loyal until the end.

@@mathlete855 damn that theory doesn't even sound like a theory and more like a legitimate fact lol. It makes sense especially when starscream may be traitorous but he is cowardly too and very predictable. Thus megatron doesn't see starscream much as a threat and even said once he took pleasure in seeing starscream fail again and again. Dreadwing is much more loyal which is fine but would prove problematic for megatron if dreadwing ever turned against him since dreadwing is physically stronger than starscream and was manage to rival optimus in strength and is more unpredictable.

One thing for certain though is that Megatron learned from this experience, as shown when Shockwave threatened to hurt Starscream. Instead of stepping in, he just watches and let them sort it out between themselves.

Wish they did more with him rather than killing him off right when he seeming started some form of redemption arc. I remember when it happened the online community kept speculating that somehow they'd bring him cause "there's no way they'd kill him off when his character was getting the most interesting and then have no one mention or acknowledge for the literal rest of the show".

I would have called that death a "Comic book moment" since I don't think other Transformer cartoons have ever gotten that ballsy with the death of some of the characters like in prime. They would have gone the redemption arc which in the end would have led him getting killed by Megatron or another Decepticon. What makes Prime Dreadwings death the most tragic is that Megatron tried to stop him before extinguishing his spark unsure if he made the right choice or not to let him kill Starscream.

I am wondering what he would of done if Megatron hadn't killed him. He kind of burned the bridge with the Decepticon. Eventually Megatron would of noticed the hammer was gone and he made no attempt at hiding his attempt on Starscreen's spark. While Optimus was willing to take him in, he seemed unwilling to join the Autobots.

I got into so many arguments about Dreadwing's arc back when Prime was airing. A lot of the older fans were so cynical and viewed his death as a "waste", but for me it was the best execution of the character's arc. Dreadwing found out the truth, made his choice and followed it through to the end. And in doing so, he showed very clearly why Megatron wasn't a leader worth following. Dude went out being true to himself.

The one thing I like with Prime Dreadwing was that in the story arc he never actually held any ill will, or anger towards the Autobots for killing his brother. I believe he even found how they treated the defeat of his brother, and even how Prime showed sympathy for his loss as honorable, and that he said his brother had died honorably in combat. It always felt like Dreadwing in prime had been modeled somewhat in how Starscream in energon was cast to be.

Skyquake had a warrior's death, and the Autobots showed him respect as a foe and sympathy for losing family to the war. Dreadwing was okay with that, and that's why turning his brother into a undead monster pissed him off to the point to leave the Decepticons. Bonus points to him actually HELPING the Autobots to be able to win and THEN trying to go for revenge, instead of just throwing a rampaging tantrum like most antagonists would.

Prime Dreadwing was everything Energon Sixshot should of been. A brother of a deceased character who is a repaint and wants revenge while Megatron hides the full details what happens to his late brother. At least they did something with Dreadwing and let him learn about his bro turning into a zombie ghost, Sixshot died thinking his brother's killer was Optimus.

I love the Prime version of Dreadwing for more than one reason, though perhaps the biggest was the fact that he was voiced by a returning actor from the Live Action movies as well as the Candyman himself, Tony Todd.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Prime version of both Dreadwing and Skyquake are used as the foundation of future incarnation of the characters. I actually had this idea of them being rivals of Jetfire and Whirl after the two defect to the Autobots. (With the idea of Whirl starting off a Decepticon and actually being a central part of the overall cause, Megatron using him and his story to rally against the caste system.) Eventually their fanatical loyalty to Megatron has them start to go against their personal sense of honor.

It's one thing when a character is just a regular mustache twirling villain, or a generic goon. It's another, when you make them honorable and loyal to a cause, only to have them question it all based on the actions of others. Dino - Bot, Armada Starscream, Dreadwing, even a couple Decepticons in the Netflix series. That's what makes them memorable. Skyquake just got a new toy in the Legacy Evolution line, I'm sure Dreadwing will be following.

The one disappointment with Prime Dreadwing: he never got to meet the Predacons. A fight between these warriors would have been epic. Prime Dreadwing’s design reminds me of Robotech’s Alpha fighters. With blue and green I was expecting a red variant before the end of Prime.

"Prime" was my introduction to Dreadwing and he was a pretty interesting character. Maybe someday we'll have another incarnation that'll take some cues from this version. I also find it interesting how one of his G1 components was named Darkwing, since whenever I hear that name I think of the Disney character Darkwing Duck. Maybe that's why Hasbro lost the rights to that name.

Loved Dreadwind & Darkwing in G1. They were great characters and cool Transformers for being Powermasters and being able to combine into the Dreadwing super-jet. G2 Dreadwing was absolutely awesome; one of the standouts in all G2. Dreadwing in Transformers: Prime was my favourite incarnation of the character. A Decepticon rarity for being a formidable & honourable warrior, an efficient second-in-command, loyal to Megatron and a tragic character. He gave his all to the Decepticon cause…both him and his twin brother Skyquake…only to ultimately realise that were just expendable pawns. As much as Megatron valued Dreadwing’s loyalty, Megatron considered Starscream’s treacherous, conniving nature to be of far greater value in the long term, regardless of the damage. Disillusioned and betrayed, Dreadwing saw nothing left for him in this world. It’s one of the most tragic character-arcs in all Transformers.

Always wanted a G1 Dark wing.. Back in 85 I was going to Blackpool for a 2 week holiday and as the coach was traveling down the road we passed by an airbase where an airshow was taken place and 3 R.A.F. Tornado GR1s buzzed the coach and I instanlty fell in love with that aircraft so when hastak released a transformer that turned into 1 I had to have it but sadly never got him.

As always Prime have a lot of my favorite versions of any TF, and Dreadwing is no different, I love his characterization in TFP, he was a loyal warrior, almost a samurai type, and different to many cons, he was actually very loyal to Megatron, sadly also an honorable warrior which is a rare thing between Cons, make him one of my favorites in the show, I actually was super sad when he died, but non the less he ended letting a huge mark on me and many TF fans, I think if they keep bringing back Dreadwing, I hope they keep these elements one way of another.....also I love his many rivalries in the show, for a character who didn't last too long, he cultivate a lot of interesting relationships, from his love for his Brother Skyquake, his hatred for Starscream, his rivalry with Wheeljack and Optimus and eventual respect he form with Optimus, this version of Dreadwing is easily my favorite of all.

I always liked Prime Dreadwing and always found myself kind of disappointed in how his story ended. The direction they were taking his character in was genuinely interesting and I felt they could have done more with it. Also, hey Hasbro, Legacy Dreadwing when? Asking for a friend.

Well, he did attack Starscream and try to kill him out of revenge-minded spite, thanks to Starscream’s disgrace of Skyquake’s sacrifice by raising from the dead, which he finally saw and realized in the previous Cortical Psychic Patch interrogation episode. He kind of had to be killed for disobeying Megatron’s order to stand down.

In 1994 when my mum and dad got me Dreadwing for Christmas that year I was stoked to get another Transformer figure that was still for me anyway a continuation of the original G1 toys, but over the years I have come to really like the Prime version too as the over all story ark in that series showed that not all Decepticons are one minded world dominated cybertronieans. Tony Todd did a great job to bring the character a great sense of honor too.

Prime Dreadwing was cool. I really wanted him to pull a Dinobot and fully switch sides, which I did think was going to happen. It's messed up that his brother is *still* shambling around in that pocket dimension.

Thanks for doing this episode that explores one of my favorite Transformers characters @ChrisMcFeely. I appreciate and loved that episode greatly. My favorite version of Dreadwing is the Transformers Prime version because he is very cool! 👍 I also liked his personality in Prime as well as his penchant for using explosives and his blaster. I also frequently play as him all the time in the Transformers Prime video game on the 3DS, due to my obsession to him. I also would like to thank you for briefly mentioning Mindwipe, but let's explore more further about Mindwipe in perhaps the next episode. 😉 👍

I always love the Transformers Prime version of Dreadwing, I never knew that their is other versions of Dreadwing cause when I look him up, it only shows Transformers Prime and that's fine

Funny story, I was thinking of taking up stop motion as a hobby a few years ago, so I went to this comic book store to find more transformers. While I was there, I found both Dreadwind and Darkwing, and I picked up Dreadwind, thinking he looked like an existential guy, and then I picked up Darkwing, thinking these two would make cool brother characters, and then I get home and low and behold, that's exactly what they are. Here's to hoping that Dreadwing and Skyquake get some kind of retool for Legacy, seeing as their prime figures are prone to breakage.
