One of the things that I always found interesting about the Dinobots is that while most transformer alternate modes is what the robot transforms into, the Dinobots alternate mode is the robot. When the G1 toys were sold, they were all in dino-mode by default, and I believe it is even hinted at that the Dinobots also prefer to stay in Dino-mode as it's what feels right to them.

Nah mate, this is (sadly) old-school combiner design. Turn the four smaller robots into long bits, turn the big robot into a square bit, plug 'em all together then tack on the hands, feet and body armour you were keeping in a box somewhere. A time-honoured tradition -_-

Right! I saw a series of shorts under the title Combiner Wars and Slag and Swoop were indeed Volcanicus’ arms, with Sludge and Snarl as his legs. This figure totally swapped Slag and Sludge.

Since they didn't combine in the 80's we would invent a name like dragon lord and try to combine the dinobot figures into one huge combiner to fight devastator or bruticus while teaming up with superion... Would have been awesome if they did that in an alternate universe.

Logically, Sludge and Slag should be the legs, while Swoop and Snarl should be the arms. Doing the stomp to cause earthquakes, kicking with horns. Missiles on one arm, and spikes on the other arm with the three claws to tear others up. Swoop's wings on the back of the combined form.

The upgrade kit dosent let you put sludge as a leg, because grimlocks tail is in the way

@@Andrew_-yh8tt That is for the Volcanicus design. They made Grimlock the biggest out of the Dinobots, which makes no sense. All the Dinobots were big. Sludge for the size of a Brontosaurus does not fit right to be an arm. I am sure the designers could have figured out a way for the transformation to have Sludge and Slag for the legs, Swoop and Snarl for the arms. An Ankylosaurus type shield and mace would have fit as well.

Originally, the Dinobots weren’t combiners, so I’m wondering how that changed. Was there a comic or web series that showed how that happened? I’m guessing they were seriously damaged from a Decepticon attack and a couple of the mechanical Autobots were not just able to restore them, but gave them combiner powers to take on the Decepticon giants to boot!

Technically before Volacanicus, they did combine abliet in a forceful and painful ways. It was in the comic many years ago and Grimlock force combine with everyone and became "The Beast" but his combine form was like an abomination!

I have made the comment that the newer action figures it doesn't matter what it all of these new dicast plastics are a lot better than the dycast metals that they use with the original G1 line I know because my brother bought me swoop and it came and one of the arms broke off The other thing is that a lot of people don't know specificy parents those original die cast pieces from 30 40 years ago contained a lot of lead based paint that they can't get away with anymore
