Also, having the pocket holes on the outside means the screws are directed into the material instead of toward the edge, making the joint stronger.

I've been thinking of building something like this for a long time. Trouble is, I've overthought it so much that's it's become way too complicated. You just made this simple and straight-forward. My stand is going to be a lot more like yours, and a lot less like the monstrosity in my head!

I made a $275.00 Dewalt contractor saw into a full cabinet saw. I made a work table that is 4’x8’. I stripped the contractor saw down by removing the fence and cut a hole in the work table about 6” from the edge. After dropping in the saw, I added a Besemyer fence. I then added my router lift, a vice and 2 cut outs for additional tools. I made elevator lifts for these openings where I put my planer and spindle/belt sander. I just raise them up when needed and they are lowered and completely out of the way when not needed. I basically have 3/4 of the my shop all wrapped up in one bench. It’s on 6 four inch locking casters so I can easily move it around the shop. Next I’m going to add an electric hand plain so I can use it like a jointer. This is probably the most useful thing that I will ever build.

I would recommend a safety improvement to the crosscut sled. The blade comes though the fence and risks hitting something or someone as it does. I would add a block on the backside of the fence to bury the blade as it comes though the fence. It would also reinforce the fence at the curf.

For your fence issue of being difficult to dial in small amounts, make a bigger handle and you could even put a little knob on it that spins similar to the look of your cabinet saw height adjustment. Love your videos, keep up the great work!

A lot of other YT sites do similar until they become big and they have the space and sponsors to give them a cabinet saw. Of course, a track saw does most of what a table saw does and you can get big circular saws to run on track if you have to cut deeper than 55 mm - I have a Makita to cut 85 mm off track and 80 mm on track or 70 mm on my home made track (extremely rarely)

Buy a cabinet saw, or do what I did and buy what they call a hybrid saw. Its somewhat a cabinet saw as it doesn't have the open leg stand like a contractor saw, but it don't weigh as much as a full cabinet saw either. I bought mine about a month ago through Grizzly Tools. Since I have a shop setup for 240V I converted my saw to 240V. The portable saws are great on a jobsite, but you'll appreciate the larger table and power of a hybrid or a cabinet saw...heck even a contractor style saw is going to give you more table space and more power typically. Also, in some wood working tasks you'll want to use a dado stack, some of the portable/jobsite table saws do not accept a dado blade. I mounted my saw in a portable base, so I just roll it up against the wall in the shop when I'm not using it and want the floor space for other tasks. Every tool I've been buying, I have been putting on mobile bases, it just makes it nice to be able to put the wheels down and roll the tool around wherever I want it, and out of the way when I need floor space. I have a portable jobsite saw that I use occasionally when I want to do stuff outside and not be stuck inside the shop. I don't do any construction/contractor work, I'm just a home DIYer so I don't take my saw anywhere, its just nice to have the mobility occasionally...however, a good hybrid or cabinet saw is what you really want in the long term if you want to do a lot of projects.

In UK, it is well worth investing a good jobsite saw (usually DeWalt but they may have let their corded version quality slide as they have with other corded tools) and set it up as a cabinet saw. The latest Evolution looks like a good budget product but I've been burned by their quality control a few times in the past

By the time you build that table you've taken up the same space if not more space than a bigger hybrid or cabinet table saw, you aren't saving any space...just put a mobile base on the cabinet saw and roll it out of the way when you don't need it, that is what I do.

Just think about what you are buying and building in the case of this video, he built a table with outfeed support and end supports which now takes up as much space as a cabinet saw....so he hasn't saved himself any space at all by building that table LOL. The nice thing is, with the mobile base, you shove it into a corner, or if you are working in a garage, you can even roll it outside to give yourself more room...and you can still take the saw out of the table to use on a jobsite or other location if you wanted to. I have my hybrid table saw on a portable base, serves the same purpose for me, roll it against the wall of the shop when not in use, all my stationary power tools are on mobile bases now for that reason.

For wheels and castors, try theatrical chandlers. The moment I heard the suggestion a few years ago, it made so much sense. Huge variety, lots of specification details... they have to be both good and specific for safety and rapid movement of heavy, unbalanced, or lightweight items often in the dark. Maybe slightly more expensive than Amazon but a more ethical purchase in terms of tax paid by the corporation and you can get exactly what you want, even call them for advice

For people watching this that haven't bought their contractor saw yet, don't buy a Ryobi one! The t tracks for the saw aren't a standard size so after market miter guides won't fit and the fence for it is the worst thing I've ever seen, it's not on a track and just clamps to the table so you have to measure the back and front distance exactly every time so you don't get kick back from pinching the wood.

Tip for getting finer adjustment on the rack and pinion mechanisms for the fence: put a long lever on it. Probably a removable would be preferable.

To upgrade your fence, check out the BOW XT XTENDER FENCE. I went 46" on my Dewalt (DWE7491RS) Jobsite Saw and added the BOW XT feed supports. I only use them on the infeed side. I use a similar adjustable table for outfeed, so the feed supports get in the way. I also added the JessEm Clear Cut Flex Stock Guides (make sure you buy the "flex" version). Once I build something like what you built, it'll be an even greater setup and a serious upgrade from stock. By the time it's all said and done, the upgrades will be as much or more $$$ than I spent on the saw. *To save some cash, it wouldn't take much creativity to build something very similar to the BOW XT system out of plywood.

I have the same Dewalt saw and added the same Xtender setup as you. The difference, in accuracy and safety, FAR exceeded my expectations. I can’t recommend the Xtender enough. I considered cobbling together a homemade setup, but realized that if the end result was a nuisance to use (installing it, removing it, or adjusting it) I’d end up not using it….I consider the cost to be well worth the functionality. 👍🏼👍🏼

@@MJLWoodWorks I did this prior to buying the Bow Xtender with the feed supports. It did improve the stock fence, as far as helping prevent left/right movement of the wood….particularly if a good portion of the fence extension was on the infeed side. BUT, it was fussy to use….it was awkward to clamp in place, awkward to adjust, and did not give any support to any wood that extended off the front or rear of the saw’s table. In addition, it did not provide an east way to attach downward-pressure feather boards. Putting the price of an item near the top of your pros/cons list, when said item provides a significant improvement in safety, accuracy, and ease of use, is a false economy.

Two holes in the aluminum with table saw fence clamps could work.. believe me, if I had the money I’d be buying all sorts of cool gadgets… but the purpose of this series is budget tools for budget minded woodworkers so, I would think the fence system is a major luxury for most budget woodworkers..

This is a great video that shows what can be done with budget tools and I wish I had seen it a few years earlier. It's probably because I don't know any better but the rack & pinion style adjuster on my DeWalt is the primary reason why I don't want to replace it with anything else. With the same blade you're using in the video, I get exceptionally precise cuts by simply putting at the measurement required. However, the fence itself does leave a small bit to be desired.

I've made a couple of saw stands and it never occurred to me to make an all-in-one that big . . . so that it could be an all-in-one. Of course I've only had a couple years so far. I have the same table saw & made a table for it, but I incorporated my miter saw to the table as well. I use the table saw as the holding surface for longer pieces that I cut with the miter saw. Only down fall, I dont have an exit support for long cuts on the tables saw. Love your table, amazing. Keep up the amazing work!

You could make an outfeed extension and put it on a hinge with a foldable leg so when you aren't using your saw, you simply fold the extension down out of the way and roll it up against the wall.

Side note - I won’t lie about your last point though, I personally can’t stand the rack and pinion fence systems that are so popular now because of what you talked about. It doesn’t matter if they are dewalt, Milwaukee, Rikon, skil, metabo, ect… I’ve seen the same issue across the board. Plus they always feel cheap (and I’ve had a few break) One huge upgrade to it though is to use the bow fence system. That thing is amazing in a small shop and gives it a lot more stability at the job site.

For an add-on fence, I think the Delta Model 36-Txxx is an excellent choice. I put one on my hand-me-down Craftsman saw and it made a world of difference. Home Depot usually has a good price on them for some reason. Really easy to retrofit. I made a similar cart for my saw and I did not use the back rail choosing to have the back end of the fence glide.

I bought and attached a delta 30" table saw fence sold at HD for $260. Huge improvement over the contractor saw fence. That being said, it is an angle bracket attached to square tube and a T square fence, so I could have made it myself for way less, especially since I had to drill custom mounting holes for the angle iron part anyway.

My Dewalt has a tension nut for the rack and pinion fence, I’d assume that this one does as well. I had to dial it in to remove the slippery feeling when trying to get it at a precise position.

The start capacitor on your compressor probably failed. It probably just needs a 15-20$ replacement capacitor 30min of time, some simple soldering and some heat shrink tubing. 🤞.

I would say more, at least in Sweden if we're are talking Baltic birch 😢 But we don't have to use that plywood. But I do find the interior pine plywood I buy to be have a very soft surface. Not really a problem though, I guess.

I've always been curious about the Baltic part of this equation. Is their birch different from other birch? In the nordic countries we have a lot of birch trees and birch is also the most popular firewood because of high energy content. But birch plywood is among the most expensive plywoods here as well. Can it be that the Baltic countries simply have specialized in making this plywood and therefore "control the market"?

What a great, practical project. Jobsite saws can be both equal parts great for their compact nature, but also equally shite because of how hard it is to use them without outfeed tables, wrong work height, etc. I bought a Milwaukee cordless jobsite saw a couple years back and don't know that I'd ever have much use for a full, corded saw. At the same time, it's little rinky-dink stand and no outfeed make it seriously annoying to use and the table is so small a crosscut sled is pretty much impossible to use as well. This video has given me a multitude of ideas to revisit at some point when I have the space to actually make that saw function efficiently. I'll definitely be referring back to this video when the time comes. Also, I have that same Fien dust extractor - it's nice, quiet performer without breaking the bank (but still a LOT more expensive than a big-box shop vac - but hey, at least it's not Festool-expensive).

For fine rip fence adjustments could you set a rough measurement with your table saw fence and add an auxiliary fence with something like a jessem micro adjuster? I've used a similar setup on spindle moulders in the past.

@MakeSomething not sure if you've run into complications with this and had to fix it yet, but the dust port hole you made in the outfeed support @9:30 is going to interfere with the ability to change the blade angle since the dust port on that saw moves with the blade. May want to cut a quarter circle track matching what you see on the back of the saw.

I have been watching videos for inspiration on making an outfeed/cabinet for my small saw. Never liked the bigger designs for the one car garage I am using. This is exactly what I was looking for! It is almost as if someone is watching me..........(que Somebody's watching me by Rockwell)

Great project, Not sure if you noticed but the dust port on the back of that saw moves if you angle the saw blade. Your box is going to prevent that from moving or might break. I think you can just put an angled cut out to accommodate that.

Nice build :) But you are the first one I've heard bashing on the fence. Everyone else, including myself, loves it for its incredible precision. It might be because it is the dewalt dwe7492 and not the wen table saw.

Check out the John Heisz fence made from wood. Plans are really cheap and boy is it amazing. you could mount it in the front of your boxes.
