@@nospam3409 I saw the one piece, for sure, that had the grain running in the wrong direction, but it’s laminated and I saw most were running lengthwise so it could be slightly weaker, but I think it’ll be ok.

I’ve never done a full restoration on any tools but I have brought plenty back to a working life. I have found it’s easier to remove a little at a time, I know if I hit a tool with steel wool many time I don’t have to do much after

Золотые руки! Эх, сколько я таких топоров поднимал когда по старине ходил, найдёшь в рюкзак и на краю поля всё это старое железо выгружаешь! Топоры разные попадались примерно с 16 века и до 80х прошлого века с клеймами производителя!

Ziel bei der Restaurierung war, einen schönen Griff dafür herzustellen. Das ist auch gut gelungen. Allerdings ist der Axtstiel falsch konstruiert bzw. eingesetzt worden,. Richtig wäre gewesen, das verleimte Rohholz um 90° zu drehen, damit die Fasern des Stiels im Axthaus paralell zur Schneide verlaufen. Bei einem robusteren Einsatz ist bei der gezeigten Konstruktion ein Brechen oder Absplittern des Griffes vorprogrammiert.

That was an excellent restoration but I'll pass on the chance of using it. A layered handle looks great but I've had too many of them break apart into splinters. Just from using it to chop with. Fine looking design, but I would have put some dowel rod in as pins to secure it more in case it starts to crack. That'll make it so it won't break as easy as just layering it like plywood.

If you are a carpenter, you should know that because the wood is stuck together with wood glue, it will not be separated in any way.

Many bows are layered and they flex and don't break!
