FYI, Solar Panels don't like heat, they should have airflow behind them. Sealing the weather tight to the roof may cause a reduction in both energy production and overall life. This is one of the reasons flexible solar panels tend to have a shorter life and are less efficient as they are often glued/attache directly to a surface with no airflow below them (in addition to over flex causing cracks).

I've sprayed a lot of Raptor Liner and I found that applying your build layers first then after that is complete, let it flash off then from about 4 or 5 feet away spray mist coats and you can increase air pressure slightly so you can apply mist coats from a farther distance to make the texture less coarse and stand back and watch the texture even out the whole surface, try different techniques till you get the finish you want, a really fine texture looks best and is actually easier to keep clean, the rougher the surface texture the more porous it becomes making it more susceptible to the elements, you might also want to replace the side emblems with new ones that aren't coated as it gives a more detailed look, being all black is also going to absorb a lot of heat from the sun so make sure to thoroughly insulate the camper body.
@gagt5spd
@gagt5spd 2 ай бұрын
Those panels are going to cook. They need airflow behind the panels, they have a minimum step off speck. Check RV Solar stuff out they have a lot of good mounting options. The flexible panels can be direct mounted by design but these aren't meant to do that.

You’re going to need some serious A/C BTUs for cooling. As others have mentioned…the exterior is going to absorb a lot of heat. Looks cool - though. The PAUSE all terrain trailers now have an option for an exterior coating similar to what you just used. 👍

I worked for a big campervan manufacturer in Germany. The outer walls there are textured metal (like small dimples), glued with PU glue to a wooden frame and insulating foam in between the frame spares. When switching to smooth walls, there was a lot of (sometimes very expensive) trail&error to get the waves out of them. The seams got sealed with a lot of sikaflex.... a lot... of sikaflex - especially when it came to the windows.

LONGHAUL TRUCKS: dry-vans are usually an open skeleton frame that is covered by sheets that are a layer of aluminum, then a plastic poly layer, then another aluminum. opposing sides stick out so that they can overlap and be riveted together using air hammers and expanding soft rivets (air hammer on the outside, someone inside with a heavy brick of steel that they press against the rivet that is getting hammered, squishes it and pulls the two sheets flat together, repeated x 2-3000 per side of the trailer). the wrinkles you see on dry van trailers are because those sheets are literally the carrying strength of the trailer (cut the walls off and the frame cant even handle a pallet of shingles), and it shows how heavy it is by wrinkling. if you notice. the wrinkles are always sort of pointing at the middle of the trailer at the floor. Doing texture is similar to doing sheetrock texture. You don't go side to side like traditional paint spraying. You do that you'll get stripes. It's keeping the gun pointed straight to the area being sprayed and its small circle movements as you go left to right or visa vera overlapping your wet edges. But looking good, can't wait to see all the cool stuff that gets installing inside. 👍

@Vaino_Hotti
@Vaino_Hotti 2 ай бұрын
The raptor liner does not affect air friction too much. Most of the drag will come from the air pressure, not air friction. The rough surface will cause a larger turbulent air cushion around the vehicle, so it might even be better than if it was smooth glossy metal. Will probably make a difference in wind noise over all the sharp edges.

That’s called a drop coat, use it for metallics too if you’re having an issue getting it to lay even you come back with a wider spray pattern and a bit more distance from your panel and spray it medium wet at a 45° diagonal pattern so for instance a fender you would spray from the top right of the panel diagonally down to the bottom left with a 50% overlap. The eye can’t see that angle in metallics on a panel so it can help hide any issues with striping and mottled looking flake if that makes sense. Works great with textured and satin clears too.

Not only red and yellows for DOT but bright white backup lights are a must as well as more lights in front for off road at night if needed. Area lights all around for the surrounding of your vehicle while it is parked is also a must in my opinion. Much easier to do it now before the interior is in and it makes for a better user experience to have reliable outdoor lights around your RV. If you want to get fancy put get dimmable ones and put them on a dimmer so you can have them set to low for mood lighting or bright for tasks that need it.

Truck looks awesome, great job. I really want to do this with my truck since the clear coat is all destroyed by the central Oregon high dessert sun.

A really light weight interior maybe modular so you can remove bits when not in use or make it into a multi functional back

i like where youre coming from, planning a very functional modular interior because ive never owned one of these and not sure what we need and dont need, and what direction to take it.

Chris, will you weigh your truck before and after the interior appointments are put in? Curious viewers would like to know!

Chris one of the things that stops the wobble used in the UK Coach building is the use of panel bond sometimes rivets but these days it can also be rivets in a channel that folds over the rivets but the panel bond is a major thing no leaks, strength and no heat.

Might need some color so it doesn't look like a swat truck around Portland 😂.

You should do Wheels and tires, some engine upgrades for the added weight, suspension upgrades maybe, nothing crazy tho just for the added weight you carry 100% of the time now
