18-minutes of overwhelming, yet soulful beauty. The most beautiful visual composition I have ever seen on KZbin.

Both stones and trees have ideal shapes, but no two are exactly alike. It is the gardener's craftsmanship that makes these ideals a reality.

You can also miniaturize this concept into pocket gardens sprinkled about a studio in small alcoves. I have three such gardens i maintain in a 450 sq ft space with bonsai in each for the principle plantings.

@@jackstrubbe7608 thank you for your ideas. I was in Japan last year, absolutely fascinated with what they can achieve in a small space. I am the first to admit I don’t have green thumbs, however I love the simplicity, less is more type approach.

Thank you so much. 40 years ago I studied Japanese history, architecture, gardens , tea ceremony . When I lived and worked in Japan I visited all the wonderful gardens I had studied. All of your information and images you provided were absolutely spot on. Such a beautiful reminder and so much to dwell on. I would have however preferred a Japanese person speaking English with all of those lovely nuances and inflections. どうもありがとう.

No, they are not. However, for my purposes, I’m interested in the possibilities in an idealized setting. I’m not swimming in money, but am working really hard at my house to have Japanese inspired gardens on my 9 acres…so the stone placements with the water features and lanterns has given me fantastic ideas. So, for me, this video was great!

I’m doing Japanese gardens at my house. My advice to you is get a bunch of Japanese garden books off of the internet see which style you like and what works for your space. Do that first. Then grid out where you want your garden(s) on graph paper. Nail down your hardscape first. (Hardscape: boulders; lanterns, rocks, water feature if not existing , path any gates or statuary) then you can decide on gravel or mulch and incidentals. I’ve done it. Do a little section at a time. See actual Japanese gardens in your state or on line or join a Japanese garden club to tour the ones that are private. You’ll be amazed at what you can create on your own! 😊
