I am legally blind and also a trans woman. Whenever I ask "where is the bathroom?" Without fail a woman usually walks right up to me, either takes my hand or pulls me by the arm, leads me right up to the women's room, pushes open the door, and leads me right into a stall. This happened even before my surgeries and when I was less than a year on hormones. Things don't have to always be bad with us in the bathroom.

For any FTMs out there, nervous about sitting down to pee in the men's restroom... As someone who has frequented the men's restroom most of my life, it's really not that out of the norm. Like, 99% of the time dudes aren't paying that much attention. But chances are, you're worried about the least likely scenario. Your cover story there would be "I thought I had to shit, turns out it was just a fart". Dude's literally write poetry on bathroom stalls about this. Trust me, they're not going to question it. They've been there. Alternatively, you could tell them you have swamp ass, had an itch, etc. Frankly, sometimes dudes just feel like sitting to pee. Point being, try not to let anxiety get the better of you.

I've visited a game studio once and their bathroom was setup like the following: a communal handwashing area, a small seperate room with urinals only and then a big room with plenty of single stalls with ground to ceilling doors. I think its an amazing inclusive design that fits everyone's needs and it should become the norm.

I went to a queer bar in Berlin that had a gender neutral bathroom with three toilet rooms (not stalls, like straight up rooms, European bathroom stalls are MUCH more private than in America) and a trough urinal that was tucked away in its own area. It was great.

I went into the women's room at the grocery store I usually go to to wash my hands (my allergies were kinda nasty that day and I sneezed a big nasty snot on my arm from covering it). A cis woman came out of her stall, walks up behind me and pulls on a gun out on me, telling me to get out (while calling me slurs). I ask her, "What are you going to do? Shoot a woman for washing her hands? Have fun at your murder trial." Luckily her friend was in the other stall to break it up. Apparently this woman had done this several times before to any woman she saw in the women's room over 5'6" (I'm 5'10").

last halloween my friend wanted to go see the FNAF movie and suggested going in our halloween costumes. My costume, which I had kept quiet about, was a cute witch.... but I agreed. I'm not out to him or my sister, who came with us. Afterward, The absolute LAST thing I wanted was to use a public restroom but I was NOT gonna make it home so I did. (Doesn't _exactly_ fit the format, but I still want to share) After I came out, I 🏳️‍⚧️ferred to a different college (not bc of harassment or anything, the new college just has more classes and courses that help me towards my chosen career path). During this process, I spoke with one of the administrators and was told that I would not be allowed to use the women's restroom while on campus. Fortunately there was at least one gender-neutral restroom in every building, so it wasn't too horrible, but it was still discrimination. I ended up talking to some other people who worked with the school, and they said what that admin had told me was WRONG and they had no policy that would bar me from using the womens'. This meant that either that admin had intentionally lied to me in order to be transphobic, or they had been talking out of their ass and actually had no idea what the school's policy was. The other ppl I talked to agreed that, either way, that admin was gonna get at least a stern talking-to for this (and perhaps more). I have used the ladies' room ever since! 😊 So, victory in the end!

I'm an older girl, who transitioned late... so little to no chance of "passing". But I have an unspoken agreement with the female security staff at my local shopping centre. Often after using the bathroom, while I'm washing my hands. Security would walk in, look me up and down, then wash their hands. They then silently follow me out of the bathroom. In these situations I know someone has complained to security "There's a man in the women's bathroom", and pretty easy to identify upon leaving the bathroom. One guy I swear was hyper ventilating over the fact thar I too sometimes need to pee. I'm also sure that they think security has done something.....

Ironically, before I came out, I had long beautiful hair. People always assumed that I was a girl no matter what I was wearing. So I saw lots of double, triple, quadruple takes of me, re-reading the bathroom door, etc. Now that I am out and older, I shave my head and get misgendered all the time. I live in a fairly chill region and use whichever bathroom seems convenient. It's funny though how people refer to it as "bathroom" instead of "toilet", since there typically is no bath. Or "restroom" when there is no comfy furnture to rest upon. I've got this huge pack of toilet paper that refers to itself as "bath tissue" which I think is hilarious. Can you imagine trying to dry off after a bath with a roll of toilet paper? Maybe I should phone the number on the package and tell them the drain of my bath is now clogged with paper and ask their advice.

I (very briefly, not briefly enough) worked at a Walmart as a janitor basically, deceptively they called it “maintenance.” I’m a guy (mostly…), other coworker cleaning with me is a guy. Literally all the cleaning staff were guys, so it’s us or nobody cleaning the women’s restroom. Straight up had to call security and barricade the door one day when an old lady freaked the fuck out on us. Door had signs all over, clearly closed, but she insisted that we were up to some sort of debauchery. Was screaming and hollering about calling the cops and shit. Texas, of course.

From a post I made on it: Transgender individuals must use bathrooms/locker rooms corresponding with their sex assignment at birth in any facility that receives public funding, including schools, colleges, libraries, courthouses, parks, airports, etc., except that they have a legally updated birth certificate matching their identity and sufficient legal documentation of primary sex characteristic surgical change procedure. Violation can result in a class A misdemeanor for 'loitering in a privacy space', class B misdemeanor for 'lewdness', 3rd degree felony for 'voyeurism'. The law applies to both adults and minors, with less severe criminal penalties for minors. No guidelines for enforcement have been put forward.

I will never understand bathroom freakouts. As another content creator has put it: "Everybody poops". The intended use of a toilet is not gendered. Using a toilet as it's intended is not a crime, and a sign won't magically stop bad people from doing bad things, so why get angry at someone for using a bathroom as intended? This happened to me around 2015, maybe '16? I was in Tennessee, wearing a dress, makeup, long hair. But I was still afraid of being outed in the women's bathroom. So at a stop at Wendy's, in some small town off the highway; after I was finished using the men's restroom, I almost walked into a man walking in. He stopped. Stared at me for a second, took a step back to take a second look at the door to make sure he hasn't made a mistake. That's when I slipped past, and we both went or seperated ways. That's when I knew I passed enough that I NEEDED to stop using the men's room. He hadn't looked down. He wasn't looking at my dress. He was looking just at my face, and seeing a woman coming out of the men's room. It was many emotions: scared, relieved, but also... satisfying.

The funniest encounter I ever had in a bathroom was when me and a fellow student went to use the mens bathroom because for some reason the womens bathroom was on the other side of the uni. Now I'm mtf and they are genderfluid. As we were washing our hands we were talking about how dumb it is that there's no womens bathrooms closer to the lecture hall and also for some reason about being fem in general. As we were doing that, this guy walks in, hears us talking, looks at us, mortified, slowly closes the door that seperated the urinals and stalls from the sink and we just finish washing our hands, go out of the bathroom and break out laughing

The boys' room at my high school in the early '80s (yes I'm old, and AMAB) had no doors on the stalls, I can only assume it was to keep people from doing drugs in there. I can only assume the girls' room was similar. I think I went from K-12 without ever once using a bathroom at school.

I was out, and nature called so I used the washroom, because I was in boy mode I used the washroom that would prevent me from being yelled at if seen. As I was drying my hands another person walked in, looked at me turned to check if they had the right washroom. They were so confused as I left. I was seen as female despite being in boy mode. 3:18 I related to this too hard. My appearance is kinda in the middle in terms of pass or not, some people even getting confused before I publicly came out and started HRT. Admittedly though I typically use men's room out of fear/not wanting any confrontation. Plus I haven't done any speech therapy or voice training, so only way I ensure I pass is if I keep my mouth shut. Anyways, start new job, do online training at store, but suddenly have to pee. Go to men's room. As I finish up and am washing my hands, guy opens the door, and he's confused looking at me. Steps back, looks at the sign next to the door and everything. After all, I'm wearing a blouse and some skinny jeans, but no makeup or anything on (lazy/bad at it). Part of me both mentally chuckled and had a long sigh as I opened my mouth and said "You're in the right one." But this wasn't only instance. Few days later, same deal. Go to restroom, washing hands again, guy around same age opens door. He doesn't even question whether he's in the right one or not, just closes it faster than he opened it and nopes out of there. At this point I should probably just ask management if there's a family or employee restroom somewhere in the store, or if I can just use women's, since I have confused multiple customers on my first week. But it's both hilarious and annoying how many people I confuse.

The only public bathroom I currently feel comfortable using is the gender-neutral one at my university. While theres only one with a single stall in a campus location attended by up to 1500 people, it's in an administrative building therefore it's pretty much only used by either the few people working there and other trans people, therefore you rarely see other folks there. I also go there if I feel like fixing my makeup or to shave on longer days, which is nice to have a save place for doing so, as I have anxiety of beard shadow being visible.

3 months into my transition (MTF) I remember going to my manager at my job asking what bathroom I was allowed to use, since I passed too well as a girl to feel comfortable using the men's room by that point, but was afraid I'd get fired if I went into the women's restroom. Even though I work at a place that's super inclusive to all walks of life, no one was trained to handle a trans employee at the time, so I got sent to senior management to get permission to use the women's restroom. Thankfully I've never had anyone approach me for using the women's bathroom afterwards, but for a while that was such a massive worry, to the point where I'd pay attention to the usual routine's of my coworkers and only use the restroom when I knew the least amount of people would be in there. So glad that's in the past.

Okay, so back early in my transistion I was spending nearly all my free time in Gay bars or mixed Kink spaces so I was in this weird place where I was both comfortable with using the women's room but had also never used a public restroom I might actually be challenged in. One day, I get a call from my Domme, she had someone cancel on her and she needed a demo bottom for a demonstration at a convention. I agree, but when I get there, the convention that it's at is a mainstream adult industry convention. I'm used to audiences that are LGBT and straight people who have been through an orientation and screening, this crowd is not the people I'm used to. My Domme hands me a cute top to wear for the performance and I head off to the bathroom to change. As I walk to the door it's starting to dawn on me that this is the first time I've used the women's room in a space that wasn't explicitly trans-friendly. I hum at 220 hz to get my feminine voice ready in case someone talks to me. Fortunately, I didn't see anyone enter or leave the bathroom on my walk there so I assume it's probably not that busy in there. I swallow my fear and walk in. It took me a moment to even work out what the heck I was seeing. The bathroom was laid out like a long hallway. There were sinks and mirrors on both sides for the first two thirds of the hall and at the end, there was a row of 8 stalls on the left side. The bathroom was absolutely packed full of women doing their makeup and getting ready for the event. Every single one of them was a model and every single one of them was TOPLESS. (it takes me a few seconds to realize that I haven't caught them undressed, that's just what they were going to be wearing at the event.) I am trying to avert my gaze but there is no place in this room that I can look that isn't in the direction of bare breasts and the mirrors face each other so everything is reflected into infinity. My instinct is to look down but they're not wearing much else down there either and the last thing I want to do with my eyes in this room is to look down and then back up again. So I start walking. Confidence. I belong here. I realize that I'm wearing my laundry day t-shirt, a navy blue shirt with a distressed American flag on it. I'm not wearing makeup or any feminine articles of clothing right now, but I belong here so it doesn't matter. I start to calm down as I make my way through the crowded bathroom, snaking my way between the women who are thankfully more focused on their makeup than on me. A woman bumps into me and apologizes. I pretend not to notice. I slip between two women but graze one and say "pardon" without looking back. I'm past the sinks and at the stalls now. They're all occupied except the one at the very end. I'm almost to the stall, just two feet away when it happens. I hear someone behind me angrily yell my name. "How DARE you walk right by me and not even say hello!" she says. It's a friend of mine. I go from being scared to a little embarrassed but feeling safe. We chat a bit, I changed, and the performance ended up going really well.

My own horror story: So I went to this anime convention down town, the city, the state, convention, and even the building I was in had pro-trans bathroom policies and laws making it illegal to discriminate. They even had progress, trans, and other LGBT flags all over the place and vendors were selling LGBT merchandise. They sold out of trans things almost instantly so lots and lots of trans people here. I went to this convention that lasted 3 days. I obviously had to use the bathroom at the convention, on the last day of the convention one of the security people clocked me, harassed me and tried pulling me into their office to talk to me about something. Keep in mind I had just gotten there that day, not even for 5 minutes there and they were harassing me not telling me what it was about. I told them I don't feel safe going with you where ever you are trying to take me and asked them what is this about. They claimed they got a report I used the woman's bathroom and tried claiming that was against the law here when no we have laws that protect us from discrimination like that. Not only that but when they stopped me originally they tried looking up my skirt orignally and tried pulling one of those perverted camera shots to do so and tried playing it off as not that when it was obvious it was just that. They had tried to pull me up to the offices upstairs to address this according to them, after everything they said and everything they tried pulling I made a big scene asking them what do you harass all the trans people you see at this convention like this. Keep in mind I know there were many trans people there, a lot of them are my friends. The security officer tried claiming they're not being transphobic just that they got a report, and I told them well I didn't even use the bathroom that day so who ever made that report is transphobic. Then they tried defending who ever made that report and tried saying they have had multiple reports. After that they tried putting a sign on the family bathroom saying transgender people to only use that bathroom and no other bathroom and this bathroom they put that sign on was 3floors up in a back corner not anywhere near the convention, it was actually outside the space allowed for the convention in this building and people that actually followed the signs for it got kicked out by security for using the bathroom and this was on the last day of the convention. When I brought up how illegal it was to discriminate like this the security manager came over and brought this other person who claims to identify as a toaster to compare me to them, and tried saying as a trans person I shouldn't be using any bathroom ever. Extremely transphobic on a day I hadn't even used the bathroom over apparently using the bathroom for just being trans and in public and someone clocked me because unfortunately I am tall woman. I hate being tall woman.... They claim they will give me free passes next year but I doubt they will.

I and some friends were in vegas, one of the days we were at a casino, I went to use the restroom, I still currently use the men's restroom because I have massive imposter syndrome. As I was walking in, a few guys told me I was in the wrong restroom, shortly after, security came in and was banging on the stall telling me I needed to get out, no women in the men's room, after I opened the stall door, and went to wash my hands, I said, in my deep kratos voice, no big deal im in the right restroom then. The look on his face was hilarious.

i remember at a walmart, i had to go to the washroom so i went as normal, i was wearing a navy blue shirt that can pass as either male or female shirt depending what i wear with it. so i go to the mens washroom and as im washing my hands and about to leave someone walks in, sees me with my hair to my hips, turns around checks the door to make sure they went in the mens room and walk past me and only then noticing they went in the right washroom. it prolly happend cause at the time i was discreet trans(my sister and parents knew, i just dident feel all that comfertable in public) and i would go into the washroom that i felt most like i identified atm. usually if im dressed as girl id go in girls washroom or the non-binary one. if i dress more like a male i go to the mens washroom

I went to see Godzilla Minus One a few months ago. When we left I had to go to the bathroom and there was a single occupancy stall but I was with two of my transphobic family and one was walking towards me with a look like, "wtf are you doing??" . . . yeah I jumped into the men's room real quick. I went to a stall that, considering some of these stories I'll say luckily had a door. Pre op for the next year and a half at least, but not no op, so I use it while I can for the only thing that is a positive, not having to be anywhere near the so often nasty seats < COLD TOO!!! >. I am so uncomfortable in that restroom because while I'm not going as me, I wasn't exactly trying to boymode either. A guy walks in as I'm walking to wash my hands and the layout of the restroom is such that he didn't really see the standing pee places, only me, and he looked down and to his right so fast!!! That was probably the closest he could come to not looking at anyone. Then he looked behind. Then back. Not sure what after that because I had my head down at that point I was so embarrassed!! Oh. The kicker? This was all in Utah. It could be worse. It could be a lot better.

I used to identify as male, I still do (for now), but I used to as well. I was often "mistaken" as a girl because I have long hair and was young at the time to the point that my mother mentioned how she got comments about what a lovely daughter she had. Anyway one time I was using the men's restroom and as I was leaving a guy walked in and did a complete 180 when he saw me and walked into the women's restroom XD. I did not see him come out so that guy is likely dead, very dead, 100% dead, but that is just the sacrifice I am willing to make to have long hair. >:3

I am a cisgender guy who looks and dresses masculinely, and I have never been mistaken as a girl in my life. That said, I really emphasized with a lot of these stories because I just hate real life nudity; It makes me uncomfortable, so I always use the stall and time my bathroom visits to when I think it won't be busy. I will literally walk to a bathroom, see somebody go in, and then turn on a dime to go to a different bathroom.

I always used to get so anxious about using the bathroom in public and usually wait till I get home. The first time I went in the woman's restroom was because I got so desperate that it ended up being stronger than my anxiety 😂😂. It helps that I was really femme that day.
